I am scheduled to have surgery on May 2, 2002. Dr. Roe was my second opinion as I wanted to have my procedure lap vs open. After my consult with him on April 10th, I decided that it was in my best interest to have him as my surgeon. It is about Trust. Not only trusting your surgeon, but the entire team that will be involved in your care. Dr. Roe understood my concerns about anesthesia and pain medications. He not only listened, but he heard me and assured me that he would see to it that the right decisions would be made. That meant the world to me. I am so totally at ease and no longer have the apprehensions that I had about going back to Sinai again. That is why I switched Doctors. Dr. Roe has an excellent relationship with Good Samaritan Hospital and I believe that he does not accept any sub par care for his patients.I also feel that Dawn and Joanie in his office are excepionally empathatic as they are competent. I would recommend him in a New York minute.

My first impression of Dr. Roe and his staff were great. Everyone is very down-to-earth. They all seem to understand the life of someone who is obese and that really helps. I felt at ease in the office and was educated at length about the surgery, and what to expect. I am happy that I am going to have the surgery and I also scared, but after the initial shock of getting a date wore off, I am concentrating on the simple matters of the proceedure. I would rate the Dr., and staff at a very high end of the spectrum. They addressed all of my concerns and treated my very well, and not to mension the fact that Dawn, (staff member) called me on what I am sure was 'her own time' to discuss the surgery. You don't see that every day. So I am very pleased overall with the entire office so far.

4/5/02.... Wow, what a great experience!! I had my initial consult with Dr. Roe and his staff. I was very nervous. But I was put at ease very quickly. Dawn and the rest of the staff were extremely kind, knoweledgable and quck. Any questions I had were answered and I was treated like a Individual. Not just another paitent. Dr. Roe couldn't ask for a better staff. They truly are terrific.
As for Dr. Roe, what a great guy!!! He took the time to explain everything. Questions were answered that I had not even thought of asking. He was very thorough. He made lots of eye contact and spoke to you not just rambling on. I have chosen to start the process. Getting ins. approval. I am so happy that I found Dr. Roe and his staff. I really am lucky. I felt comfortable like when you are with close friends. I can't wait!!!! I know I am in good hands I'll keep you posted...........

My first mtg. with Dr. Roe is Feb. 1st,2002. Can't wait!!!! I met with Dr. Roe 2-1, very impressed. He was very informative and gave me the impression that he believes in what he does(and he is good at it-that's good for me) I had no dislikes about the Dr. His staff is totally awesome!!!Dawn "worked" her magic in 8 days for my approval-I am truly thankful!!!!He went over everything with me with a fine tooth comb-asking if I understood and if I had any questions after each discussion point. He told me more than once that we would be friends for a very long time-stating emphatically that my surgery date would not be the only time he sees and speaks to me. Dr. Roe addressed all risks of the surgery(which I was well aware of after doing hours and hours of research) My Surgery is scheduled for 3/19-but up to this point he and his office staff get a 10+.

I felt very, very comfortable with Dr. Roe right away at my initial consultation. He is very down to earth and makes you feel at ease. Great bedside manner and surgical competence. Appears to be very particular in his care of his patients. He is very knowlegeable of the procedure and has researched it extensively. His power point presentation was very informative and reassured me even more that I was making the right decision. He did not rush me through an office visit, took his time in answering questions, and seemed to be a very compassionate doctor and person. His office staff was wonderful and also made you feel at ease. Dawn is dynamic and had my insurance approval in two days. Joan is also a real sweetie. All in all, I am very pleased with Dr. Roe and his staff. They make you feel very comfortable, are informative and answers your questions. Dr. Roe's support group is wonderful. It is very informal and informative.
I would highly recommend him to all.

I first met Dr. Roe on 1/21/02. I was very pleased with his office staff and Dr. Roe as a surgeon. He delivered a powerpoint presentation that took about an hour. (Time well spent) Dawn seemed to be very informed about the insurance companies. I went into the meeting with a large knowledge base of the surgery by researching the many different ways of doing the surgery and I have found that this one appears to be the best for me. I was impressed that I was able to bring my husband into the room with both Dawn and Dr. Roe. It is very important that everyone that will be involved in your immediate surroundings also be knowlegable about the procedure and what to expect. I think it is wonderful that they have their own support group and I will be attending the 30th. All complications were explained to me. I received a call from an outside person who I think was trying to scare me away from the surgery but Dawn was very nice to listen to my concerns and answered my questions. As long as I am approved I have found the surgeon I feel is best for me. I was told that I would hopefully hear back by Friday.

UPDATE 2/11/02
I have gone to Dr. Roe's support group and nutrition eval. Both were outstanding. Just waiting on Surgical posting date..Insurance has approved the surgery :)

I met for the first time with Dr. Roe on 1/14 and before the end of the week had approval from my insurance company and a surgery date scheduled. I was very impressed. Although some people may not like sharing the initial consult, I actually liked it. Dr. Roe requires a pre-op visit with a dietician, which I found very informative and helpful. Surgery date is 2/19. He has a support group that I haven't been able to attend, but he also has a great e-mail support group.
