My first impression of Dr. Chapman was good. He was very informative and shot straight from the hip about the risks and the advantages. His staff has been very thorough and helpful. Although the whole "clinic" environment was fast paced, he took the necessary time to address any concerns. Dr. Chapman was a firm believer that he is only a tool, but the real work is up to me afterwards. The follow up visits, etc. are very critical. The program at Pitt Memorial Hospital is highly acredited. On an overall basis, I think Dr. Chapman and his team deserves an A+.

10/6/2003- Met with Dr. Renden at PCMH. They went over the papers I filled out in the class and went in to detal about my specific health problems. After examining my stomach said I was good for the LAP which is what I wanted to hear !! I ahve to do usual tests, pulmonery and a psych eval. and most likely my sugery will be in Jan. 2004. Thank goodness !! Dr. Renden is very nice and easy to talk to and the nurses continue to be very nice.
08/11/2003 - Had an orientattion today at PCMH in greenville, NC. Dr. Chapman is doing a new program to streamline the waiting list. This will weed out people who may not be serious anout surgery. If you get a letter stating you are to come to an orientation that last about 3 hours. You SHOULD GO. If you do not show up, you are removed from the waiting list. I have been on the list since 11/2002. At the time I had BC/BS and it would have been approved. I now have Medicaid- Carolina Access. I did not even know that they would cover this surgery but going on the website i read about a patient that had no problems with approval. ANYWAY - Dr. CHapman is VERY nice. He met with us at the beginning of the meting and explained the procedure, risks, benifts and answered all questions before leaving us to fill out medical forms. His staff is also VERY nice. Allthough they all are skinny, they didn't make any of us feel inferior because we were over weight. These ladies told me about this web site and answered every single question we had. If you want this surgery. I advise you to keep this orientation apppt.

My impression of Dr. Chapman is that he let's you know everything in details and he doesn't hold back. He informs you about risks, and what he expects from his patients.

His staff is wonderful and very friendly. His assistant explain everything to a tee. He even made drawings of everything.

I actually haven't met Dr. Chapman. He was in surgery a little longer than anticipated. However, I met with two of the nurses who were great. I am not sure of the name of the first nurse but Natalie explained the procedure to my mother and me. It went really good and all the people there were wonderful. Later that afternoon I went to the support group which was very informative. I met some nice people and learned even more. It was great hearing from other people who have already had surgery and actually meeting them in person. There were people there at all levels in the journey to getting weight loss surgery. Better get back to work. Thanks a bunch to all the wonderful staff at the hospital and the people in the support group. :-)

Okay so here I am 2 weeks post op and I have met Dr. Chapman of course. I just wanted to make sure that I posted that he is a very skilled surgeon. He is straight to the point and does not beat around the busch. To me this is good because a person really needs to understand how greatly their life wil change after surgery. I felt very good about him operating on me and am blessed to have had him as my surgeon.

In May 2002, I was put on ECU's waiting list (a 1.5 year wait). I had my first appointment at ECU in late April 2003, fortunately meeting Dr. Chapman and nurse/assistant Natalie on that initial visit. They were very informative and spoke very candidly, which made me feel comfortable with my choice of ECU immediately.

Dr. Chapman impressed me as a doctor who solidly knew his "stuff", and is well versed in this surgery. His confidence in his work instilled a sense of security in me, even as he explained the possibility of surgical complications and their percentages of chance. He thoroughly explained the pain and discomfort I should expect, along with the dramatic change in dietary intake. In addition, he stressed the necessary lifelong committment to dietary change, and physical maintenance as well as exercise. He ended by saying that a good support system was needed for those days when the going is tough, especially in the beginning.

I cannot say enough about Dr. Chapman's professional approach, and caring attitude during my consultation. He has definately given me a sense of calm about the hands I will be in during my time on "the table". He cared enough about my well being to mandate that my husband be here for support during and after surgery. I feel that he is a very competent doctor, who considers each individual case and the well being of each person who requests evaluation for this life altering surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Chapman was that he was confident and reassurring. However, he did not prepare me well enough for the pain I had following surgery. I think it was because he had not expected me to have so much pain on the second week. I liked his office staff and found them helpful, but once I began having complications, I was disappointed in them. They had me go to the Pitt Memorial Emergency room where I spent from 5 pm until 9 pm the next night. I had every teast run and was on an IV with morphine for pain, but I was seen by my Dr.'s college. My Dr. had been doing surgery for the past two days and needed time to rest.
I was better after a week, but I had a slower recovery from pain than I initially expected. I was very upset at having to be in the emergency room for so long as well, but their CAT scan machines were down but one. The Dr.'s did order every test in the book to make sure nothing was wrong inside.

I am still awaiting my month out follow up and I will get to see my Dr. then. I can add more after that visit.

Surgical competence when it comes to my life is a number one priority, but it is very important to have a Dr. with good bedside manner to help a person get over the emotional part of this surgery. My Dr. was nice and seemed to have been compentent.

My impression of Dr. Chapman was he is very knowledgable. Although he and his staff are VERY busy, when your time comes to talk with him, he is all ears and focuses on you. I am only 3 weeks post op at this time, but my opinion of his nursing staff is they are top notch. The office staff, however, seems uncaring and can be quite rude on the phone. I do rate my overall experience so far an "A".

This man is BUSY. I think he stoped by between surgeries. He seemed a very good listener. I was probably over prepared by the time my first consult came around.(As most of us probably are) So I made it pretty clear what I knew and what I expected. He checked me out and said I would be a good candidate for lap surgery and explained what it entailed. I checked his credentials-liscenses,everything looked great. Previous patient comments were a great help(go to find a doc). I plan to give a review as well. Information is always best when going into an unknown situation thats why I love this site. Thanks amos!

Dr. Chapman is a no nonsense person. He explained everything about the surgery. He explained all the benefits, and risks of laproscopic gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Chapman address the risks of surgery head-on. He and his staff greatly emphasized aftercare. Aftercare is well structured in their program. Dr. Chapman's staff are very caring and informative. I will have more to post as I make this journey. The morning after my surgery, Dr. Chapman was there to check on how I was feeling. He asked if I needed anything, had any questions and spoke with my parents who were there by my side the entire time. I have returned to Dr. Chapmans office three times since my surgery on March 19, 2003. Dr. Chapmans' surgical competence, bedside manner are Grrrrreatt! I love him and his staff! Sorry if there is nothing negative here but what can I say, I am 100% satisfied!

Dr. Chapman has been wonderful so far. Even though I have only had one visit with him so far. He made me feel very comfortable the mintute that he stepped into the room. He was very concerned that I understood every thing and made sure that I didnt have any questions. I will come back again after I see him again.
