William Chapman Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
I found Dr. Chapman to be very straight forwarded and willing to answer any questions that I had. Dr. Chapman's staff are wonderful. They are all so helpful. Dr. Chapman explained what was ahead of me and explained that they have a very strict and precise routine for their patients and for their patients to follow. By following this routine, the patient is able to progress safely and fastly toward their goal. I had done some reading on Drs. Chapman and McDonald via Obesity Help members and I was sooo happy when I was assigned Dr. Chapman. I am looking forward to working with him and his staff on my journey of weight loss.
i really like my dr and i think he's great
no my impression didn't change of him after my surgery.
his office staff is really nice
nothing i can think
future patients : be prepared for short office visits because he is very busy but tells you how you are doing and is very patient with you
we see him every 3 months after surgery up till the first month
yes
yes he address the risk of surgery with me and answered all my question very good before surgery
i rate him with 100%
his bedside manner is very good and so is his surgical comptence
I liked Dr. Chapman very much the first time I met him. He is all business, but very thorough and informative. It seemed very important to him that both myself and my husband fully understood all implications of the surgery. The staff in his office are wonderful. Each time I have called or needed help with anything they have been more than helpful. Thank you especially to Natalie! The aftercare is covered in great detail with great emphasis placed individually on each phase of the recovery period. I would highly recommend a doctor, office, staff and program that it able to combine surgical competence with bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr. Chapman was that he was a very nice, caring, smart, and a very very busy man!!!
Each time that i have seen him he has continued to be supper nice and really helpful!!
Everyone in his office is really nice and they answer all your questions and explain them in a way that you can really understand..and they all seem to care about the patients!!
I dont really think there was anything that i liked least about him...he is really open and honest with you!!
One thing that his patients should know about him is that he want just tell you what he thinks you want to hear..he will tell you what you need to know!! And he will go over all the risks of the surgery and the recovery. He has a GREAT bedside manner..I would recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Chapman has a really great aftercare and he always askes you about it when you go and see him. Which really means alot to me!!
He is great! Very quick and direct about everything. But, made himself available for any questions, if you had any of him. I loved the staff. They have been very understanding and helpful so far. At times funny!! We have had our share of laughs!!
I had surgery on Feb. 11, 2005. My love gift to myself this year. Thank you Dr. Chapman for helping me to do this. God Bless your hands, always.
After surgery I don't remember seeing him, but the nurses were very nice and funny!! They were diverse...each had thier own way of dealing with me. I liked that, most of the time. The doctors that I did see were quick and easy. I believe that I was a easy one for them.
Dr. Chapman has been BIG on EXERCISE!! GREAT!! And his surgical competence is better! Bedside? I don't remember seeing him there. But the other doctors and nurses where great!! Except the one who would not let me shower nor would she give me a wipe down. She just sprinkled some powder on my bed so that I would smell to myself. I guess? LOL I still stunk to me!
At my first visit Dr. Chapman was very attentive and concerned about my need for surgery. He was straight forward about the risks in having surgery and possible complications. I was especially impressed with his knowlege of how my insurance company would handle my case. He told me exactly what the insurance would require and genuinely urged me to fullfill their requirements completely befor submitting .
I have visited Dr. Chapman again for a decision visit and my opinion of him is unchanged. His bedside manner is wonderful.
His nurses are also very knowledgable and helpful. Unfortunately though I have had a difficult time dealing with his office staff over the phone.
Overall I would rate Dr. Chapman as excellent. These opinions are pre-surgical. I will update afer surgery.
Dr. Chapman was wonderful from the very beginning to now. He is so caring & really is concerned for his patients.
His staff is also very caring & very knowledgeable.
Dr. Chapman has a very structured after care & has a criteria to follow for diet, exercise, vitamins, etc.
I would recommend Dr. Chapman to anyone!
I was very impressed with Dr. Chapman on my first visit to the Brody School of Medicine. He spent 45 minutes on this visit explaining wls to me. (This was after his nurse had explained it to me earlier). I have not changed my impression of Dr. Chapman as he is very professional and has a direct approach..no nonsense kind of man who tells you honestly what's going to happen. He doesn't beat around the bush. The office staff is very professional and friendly. The only thing I did not like is that I didn't see Dr. Chapman when I went for one of my follow-up visits, but I found out he was out of town. Future patients should know that Dr. Chapman is a wonderful surgeon! Very caring and straightforward. The aftercare is very important. He told me "if you do what we tell you for the first two weeks, you'll do just fine!" They gave me information sheets that I can fall back on to review if I need to. Structured aftercare? As far as my keeping my follow-up appointments. There is a support group in that area, which I choose not to drive 2 hours once a month to join. Risks of surgery? Dr. Chapman point blank told me I could die from this surgery. Well, like any surgery when you "go under" there could be complications. That's what I was thinking about. I had already completed research on this procedure and had identified positive and negative aspects of it. The positives outweighed the negatives in my mind. I had a list of complications that could occur if I didn't take care of myself in the first two-four weeks. I think it is/was up to me how I was going to succeed. Overall I would give Dr. Chapman a 10+. Surgical competence is a must. Dr. Chapman has a great reputation in the medical community and his record speaks for itself. Beside manner helps-but when you're on pain medicine it doesn't matter as long as no one is yelling at you. Dr. Chapman and his associates do have wonderful bedside manners though! The nurses at Pitt Memorial are also incredible as well. I have never had a better experience in a hospital. So, would I do it again? Oh Yes! The above is just my personal opinion and impression of Dr. Chapman and his associates others may have different experiences with them...but this was my impression of my surgery and aftercare to this point.
I am 8wks post op and doing fine Dr.Chapman performed my surgery on Oct 1st 2004 at The Broady school of Medicine(Pitt County Memorial Hospital)in Greenvile NC. I didnt see him during my hospital stay, or my first follow up visit. I saw residents during that time.I saw him on my second visit at 4wks out and he was happy with my sucess. I had lost 38lbs at that time.He told me when I return in Jan. for my 3mth visit he expects a loss of 67lbs. I am currently at 50lbs.I am so thankful for Dr Chapman helping me to achieve what I never could on my own. I had no complications and returned to work with no restrictions. My only complaint with Dr. Chapman is that he seems to be rushed up when he is talking to you. He is very informative but if you dont have all questions written down he doesnt seem to have time to wait for you to think about it.He believes in very strict after care and made sure I was aware of all risks before the surgery.I liked that about him.He seems to care about the long term health of his patients.I would give him an A on his surgical skills and competence and a C on his bed side manner. I think if I had to do it again I would seek a private physician instead of a teaching facility.
