I met with Dr. Barker a year ago. I had previously met with another physician and wasn't very comfortable, but after I met Dr. Barker, I knew he was the surgeon for me. I feel very comfortable with his bedside manner. When I met with him about a year ago, my insurance at that time was BCBS of TX PPO self funded. I was denied not only once, twice or three times, but eight!!!!! His office staff was very patient and caring during this trying time for me. I have since found a new job and I now have UHC PPO. I called his office last week and explained my new situation and they are so confident that I will be approved this time. I have an appointment to meet with Dr. Barker again on 2-17-05 and I am so excited and can barely contain my excitment. My husband is anxious to get this process going and so I will shut up! My advice to any one considering this surgery, 1) Dr. Barker is a great surgeon and has a wonderful bedside manner and 2) NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!
02/08/05: I met with Dr. Barker today. Wow! he was such a nice guy. Very informative and was in tune with what I had to say. I had read other post that he didn't have much bedside manner, but think that's not true at all. My insurance will only approve the Open RNY and I was pretty scared about it, but after talking with Dr. Barker I feel more comfortable with the procedure. I have already had my Pulmonary & Cardiovascular clearence done now all I am doing is waiting for my approval.
Dr Wade Barker is very professional and structured in his approach. He came highly recommended as a bariatric surgeon from a patient of his. I have read reviews that he was in need of bed side manner. My thoughts was I did not need him to be my friend but a great surgeon for my needs. That being said, after meeting him, he was personable and flexible to answer all the questions that I had wrote down prior to my consultation with him. I would recommend him as a surgeon.
I was very impressed with Dr. Barker and his staff. He was very knowledgeable and thorough with the information he shared. He was very willing to answer all of my questions and offered me the opportunity to come back and ask any additional questions. He was very clear on his directions for aftercare and the support groups, dietitian and baritric nurse all worked with Dr. Barker to insure I was very will educated. My insurance plan is changing January 1 and the surgery would cost 50% when I told Dr. Barker he told me we could get the surgery done before the end of the year. He allowed me to exepedite the tests and steps while we sought approval from my insurance company.
His staff was very patient and willing to assist me. The didn't mind me calling them 100 times worried about if I was approved or not.
After finding out last year that my insurance company wouldn't approve the lap band surgery...it was back to the drawing board looking for a surgeon. I found one! Dr. Wade Barker, Mesquite, TX. He seems to be a very compassionate and caring person with a staff to match. Dana, Cindy, etc. they are all gems. They work really hard to get their patients approved and to be there for any questions one might have. I have already had the stress test and am now scheduled for the EGD. I will update when there is more to tell...I am just excited to find out I've been approved now there is only one way to go...forward.
