my first impression of doc was wow he sure is a big guy his back will hurt after doing surg on me ha ha.the staff was wonderful i kept calling back to see if anyone had cancelled an appt.i got lucky and got in sooner.he is very stern on aftercare and quit smoking beforehand.ann his nurse went over all risks as also did doc.so far i rate a 10 I have heard wonderful things about him very excited
Dr. Oliphant is a wonderful individual and surgeon! I felt safe in his care at every step of the way. He has an assistant named Ann who is wonderful. She is encouraging, but also very honest about what to expect. There is a structured aftercare and a support group run under Dr. Oliphant. Unfortunately, I moved before being able to utilize these services, but I have heard they are wonderful. If I were to have any suggestions, it would be to have some access to a system of referring people to an appropriate aftercare specialist if people move as I did.
Dr. Oliphant is a wonderful, cheerful person. He always has a smile on his face, and he is very courteous. I had the surgery September 3, 2002. He did an excellent job, and I am very pleased with his attitude. He has been encouraging from the beginning, and continues to be. His staff is very kind, courteous, and always eager to help when needed. I have nothing negative to say about my experience with Dr. Oliphant. He emphasizes aftercare with extreme concern. He cares about each of his patients, and wants to see us all succeed in this battle. His aftercare program is very structured, and you are expected to follow his instructions. They are crutial to your success. He stresses this very strongly. I was fully informed of the risks of this surgery. As with any surgery, there are always risks. This is a major operation, and should be taken very seriously. I would have to rate Dr. Oliphant on a scale of 1-10, with a 10+. He is wonderful, and he is an excellent surgeon. My scar looks great! I would say that both surgical sompetence, and bedside manner are both at the top of the line. I can't say enough about him. He really does care about all of his patients, and their success.
I was a little nervous at first. The nurse took me back to the office and asked a few general guestions, got my weight (I am glad to report I lost 10 pounds since last weigh in). We watched a 15 min video on the risk of bariatric surgery. The surgeon then came in and went over the risks again and reviewed my medical history. He then left the rest of the time for me to ask all the questions I needed.I didnt have too many since I have spent a lot of time doing research prior to even making an appt to see him. He was very patient, polite overall very nice man (and a trauma specialist as well). Currently he only performs open RNY's but will start LAP RNY's in Jan. 2003. Although I meet the overall heath criteria and BMI is below required 50. He advised I would not be a good canidate since I have had previous stomach surgery (open appendix surgery). He said its too much scar tissure, but he would think about it. I do trust his initial opinion and if I decide to have the surgery will go for the open proceedure because I trust him. Generally I would pick a surgeon will a good beside manner over qualifications but with Dr. Oliphant I have BOTH. I would reccomend him to anyone. He is very open, blunt, honest and have the patients best interest at heart.
My first impression that he is very nice and friendly. He answered all my questions. He did not speak in long medical terms. His office staff is the typical office personal. He showed a video of the possible risks involved in the surgery.
Dr. Oliphant does have a structured aftercare program. You seem 1 week after the surgery then 1 month and 6 months then one year and every year after that. You must keep a food diary of everything you eat.
Ann is main nurse totally stressed the after care program and the care of the stapleline.
My first impression was caring.
My impression changed over time because Dr. Oliphant became more caring.
The staff was awsome helpful in every way no matter what you had to say they were there.
I liked the care and concern Dr. Oliphant had to offer.
Dr. Oliphant stresses after care as well as his nurse Ann more than you could ever realize.
The after care program is very st5uctered nothing goes unless they say so.
They were open and honest about the risks of the surgery which then put my mind to ease.
I would personally rate Dr. Oliphant number 1 in the State of Illinois.
There is no comparison they were both equal .
Dr. Oliphant was very pleasant. He has a
reassuring voice and attitude. He made me
feel very comfortable and was willing to answer
any questions I had. He has really impressed
me w/the meetings. At the first one he attend
he came in and just wanted to listen to what
we had to say. He only spoke when he was asked
a question. You could tell he was listening
and was not just sitting there. He is a Trauma
Surgeon also, so he is very busy..but he found
the time to come up and listen to us. During that same
meeting we had samples of a protien drink that
his nutritionist brought in. There was about
30 of us in the meeting. The nutritionist poured
the drink and Dr. Oliphant came around and
passed out a cup of it to each and everyone one
of us. I don't ever remember a Dr. who waited on
me like that before. He made me feel like
he is no better than us just because he is our
surgeon. I have also been hearing people who
have had some problems w/certain staff members.
Dr.Oliphant took it into his own hands and
handled it himself. He seems to be a very
caring Dr. and I am soooooo glad that I have
chosen him. I did have one small problem w/my
first visit w/him. I only talked to him for 10
minutes. He did not make me feel rushed, but
for some reason there was nothing in my file
for him to go by. No diet history no letters
from my sleep apnea Dr. nothing. So it was
rather short, but it was not his fault.
Dr. Oliphant is an excellent surgeon. He treated me with respect and was as excited as I was for the surgery. He visited me twice a day in the hospital and even comes to support group when he can. He did an excellent job on my incision and controlled the pain well.
After I had the surgery everytime I see him he is still excited over my progress and is open for suggestions.
His nurse Ann is very nice and understanding and hasn't missed a support group yet.
He is a fantastic doctor and is very much into a strict program with a lot of good after care.
Dr. Oliphant is very honest and direct. I felt cared for by him. Once he'd made the decision to begin performing bariatric surgery here (he did them in Chicago), he personally saw that all necessary personnel had been trained in the varied aspects of obesity and wls, including the psychological aspects. I have no doubt I'll be treated with dignity and respect while I'm in the hospital. Good for Dr. O!
