I really liked Dr Custer. He was open candid and honest. We clicked right away. I also liked the way he spoke to me as a person and not as a patient. His bedside manner is warm and charming. He is very educated in the surgury and trained by the best. Dr Price. His nurse Kathy is just as pleasant and returned my call when she got it. I am quite impressed with this doctor and organization. They require that you attend support groups ran and operated by their office. I feel informed and included with this office as I felt like a money making number with Bariatic Weight Centers. I am impressed and excited.

Dr. Custer did not have the warmest personality upon first meeting him but he was no nonsense and I liked that. He told me he was very aggressive about getting the surgery approved and I believe he was. I have the Blue Cross Blue Shield chamber plan and after seeing the trouble others have had I was nicely suprised that it was approved right away. After the surgery, when I had the blood clots in my lungs, Dr. Custer was warm and friendly and I grew to like him very much. The aftercare program is not really structured. It is not like the program offered at places like Bariatric Treatment Centers. Dr. Custer told me I could eat whatever - just to make wise choices and get exercise.

My new surgeon is Dr. Timothy Custer in Columbus, OH. My first impression was, "Oh my goodness, he's not much older than me!" Once I got over the shock, I was struck by how easy he was to talk to and how he seemed to be genuinely interested in my case. He talked with me for 40 minutes and NEVER made me feel rushed. As a matter of fact, he got two pages while he was in with me and he didn't even look at his pager. He just reached down and hit the button to silence it. Wow! It's nice to know the doc isn't just trying to rush on to the next patient.
I honestly cannot think of a single thing that I disliked about Dr. Custer. He spent a great deal of time talking about the surgical options and why, in my case, he preferred to do open instead of lap. He said he'd leave the decision up to me, though, and if I wanted to have it done lap then he'd give it a try. He also put to rest all of the rumors I've been hearing about having to be off work 6 weeks if I have it open. He said, baring complications, there's no reason to believe that I'd need to be off longer than 3 weeks. That's all I needed to hear! I chose to go with the open surgery and can't wait to hear from him with a date!
Dr. Custer's office staff were very pleasant and easy-going. Keri is an absolute jewel! I simply cannot get over how different this office is from the doctor's office that I originally chose. It scares me to think that I was so desperate for the surgery that I was willing to let that other office treat me poorly.
Dr. Custer was very emphatic about the importance of getting into a support group and he drives the point home by REQUIRING at least one visit before surgery to get to know everyone. His office runs the meeting the first Monday of every month on the Mt. Carmel West campus. I'm looking forward to becoming a member!
I think both surgical competence and bedside manner are qualities this surgeon exhibits. I asked about his mortality and morbidity rates and asked him specifically what kinds of problems he most runs into. I was happy to hear that he and his partner have tweaked their routines to give better results, even though it may not be the "routine" way of doing the operation. It makes me feel like he's actively trying to find newer and better ways of doing the surgery instead of going along with the "same old thing."
Dr. Custer has been, so far, wonderful to work with. I'll post more after my surgery!

I have only met with Dr. Custer one time, during my initial consultation, but I liked him. He was patient, explained the procedure, let me ask questions, and seemed genuinely concerned about his patients. I have another appointment September 6 to meet with the nurse prior to surgery, may have more information afterwards.

I thought Dr. Timothy Custer was dynamite! I had already contacted Dr. Phillip Price regarding weight reduction surgery and had started insurance requirements when I had to have an emergency hernia surgery over 7/04 week and Dr. Custer (as associate of Dr. Price) performed the surgery. He is young, dynamic, confident and has excellent references and recommendations. A year later I feel the same way about Dr. Custer.

Most of their office staff is terrific, but one. She gave me misinformation, was rude, uncooperative and generally didn't give a damn about me.

I just had surgery 7/01. I was a high risk patient because of potential heart disease and emphasemea. He encouraged me to use the assisting doctors I wanted with anesthetic. He is a no-nonsence kind of doctor - straight talking.

We are in aftercare now.

When Dr. Custer walked into the room I thought he looked very young. He is a very straight forward person. Pam had the day off so I only met Kathy, who is great! She is a very friendly person and I really enjoyed talking to her.
I have no negative comments as I feel my visit went quite well.
He gets to the point and you leave feeling more confident than ever about your decision to have this surgery. I have one more visit after my sleep study and he says he will answer all my questions then and I should have my surgery in late August or early September. On a scale of 1 to 10 so far he's a 10.
June 24th...talked to Pam today because I had a few questions, what an experience!! to say the least. I was almost in tears but I realized she is only human and she isn't in control. I told her I had my approval papers from Anthem BC/BS and she said that they didn't matter. She said not to bother sending a copy because they were of no use.
What a day! I told her Dr.Custer said my surgery would be sceduled around the end of August or first part of September and did I need to make another appointment to see him and she said they will handle it all. So I guess I'll just have to sit and wait. Something I'm not good at. and from what I've heard about Pam the wait may be longer than I expected.

This Dr, is very passionate about his proffession. He lets you know he really wants to help. His office staff was very friendly and personable. He is so busy and I wish we didn't have to go through the insurance hoops. Have some things done in advance to seeing him Cardiologist- pulminologist etc. On first meeting he just alluded to the post-op care. He did talk about the risks of the surgery and how they have just reached a new high in that they now can do two Lap surgeries in the time it takes to do an open. The less time on the operating table (*safely) the better for the patients recovery. Surgical competence is a must to put your life literally in their hands but without the bedside manner you won't understand how to help yourself. A good surgeon needs both.

I had seen r. Timothy J. Custer on February 19.2002 I had done alot of investigating and went in with a lot of already acquired info. Since I am alreaady a r.n., I knew what to expect except for the actual surgery and what they do. The internet ia such a valuable tool. However for the office staff, I give kudos to kathy and to the woman who answers the phone who has had weight loss surgery herself. On the other hand, I am glad to know that I am not the only one who as had problems and opinions about pam, and glad it isn;t just me. She is patronizing, and belittling, and does not help what overweight people feel already about themselves. She never returns phone calls, and I would hope that with all the complaints, that she woud change her attitude or be dismissed. I have a ton more knowledge than her, and will not be talked to as a fool. This surgery and waiting for approval obviously does't mean a thing to her. I might also contact her superior if things don't change. This is only my opinion and does not deter from Dr. Custer. Please email me for people who have had him as their surgeon.

I met my surgeon in October. He was so very nice. Even Hubby liked him. He actually listened to me and was suprised as to how much I knew already. Thanks to every one here and the email groups I am on.
I will post more later on too.
