Was really impressed & comfortable with Dr. Custer after meeting with him. The Barix clinic was wonderful & the staff also very nice. Really looking forward to this journey & feel very safe & comfortable with my choice of surgeon, surgery i'm going to have (lap GBP) & the follow up help & care.

When I went for my first consultation, I wasn't sure what I thought of Dr. Custer. He seemed nice but I try not to make decisions on first impressions until I've gotten to known someone a little better. By the end of my hospital stay I now know he has a great bedside manner and is a skilled and caring surgeon.

I had my surgery out of the Barix Center in Columbus, OH and the majority of the staff I dealt with there was great.

I have already told a couple of people of Dr. Custer and I will continue to do so! I feel that he truly cares about the well being of his patients and wants to see us succeed in our new lives!

I am so glad that not only is he a successful surgeon but he has a great bedside manner! He even made room for me at his second office at the last minute so he could remove my drain because my discharge nurse mis-scheduled my appointment and he wanted to get it out on time!!

Very glad I chose him for my partner in this journey!!!

Dr Custer was a life saver. He worked with me before the surgery, helping with insurance, answering all my many questions, took time to educate me and my family as to what to expect.rnrnBefore my surgery I was severly diabetic. I was taking 7 insulin shots and 2 oral medications daily. My blood sugar was still too high.rnrnMy surgery was in December of 2002. Since the day of surgery, I have been 'diabetic free'. My blood sugar is normal, I can eat what I want and I feel great!rnrnDid I hesitate doing the surgery? Yes, of course. It was a major operation. But, I had other major stomach problems, extremely high blood sugar, and was constantly sick.rnAfter a lot of research, questions and soul searching, I realized that if I wanted to continue to live with any quality of life, I had to do this. AND I have absolutely NO regrets.rn

I liked my surgeon from day one! He was very informative and very...real! My opinion has changed slightly, instead of liking my surgeon, I LOVE my surgeon.rnrnHe made me feel so good about the surgery because of the information he provided. He was very detailed about what was going to happen and what did happen. Knowledge eases my mind and makes me feel in control of something I have no control over.rnrnBarix Clinics is the most wonderful medical facility I have ever been to. Because bariatric surgery is the only thing they do there, they are experts. From the first entrance in the building and the chairs sized for their patients, all the way through support groups, clothing exchanges and post-op care, they are truly best in class.rnrnMy decision to have this surgery was not something I took lightly. I took two years to decide to have it, after my research and with the guidance from my family doctor I chose Barix. They do not just tell you what to do to get qualified for surgery, they actually provide most of the tests and services.rnrnTheir PAT is the most thorough medical exam I have ever had in my life. Some may be annoyed by this, but I saw it as a reassurance that this major surgery and my life was in good hands. They wanted to make sure that every detail was as good as it could get to ensure my health, safety and best possible experience from this surgery.rnrnThe post-op care was amazing. I have had numerous \"hospital\" experiences and this was nothing like those. Thankfully. The nurses are very attentive and encouraging. They are with you. They walk with you. They talk with you. They explain what you are feeling and how to make it all work for you. Many employees there have had the surgery so on any given shift, you are likely to find someone who has \"been there\". I never felt alone after my surgery.rnrnI have called the nurses on staff with questions when I went home and they are just as helpful. Never been able to do that before. Just TRY to call a hospital and get a floor nurse on the phone...ha. Not only did I get floor nurses, they were MY floor nurses. The ones I knew! And they said...\"No problem, call anytime\". Really? Wow.rnrnBarix is here for me forever. For the rest of my life. Their follow ups don't stop at six weeks. They don't give you a big \"C-ya\" on your way out of the hospital. Their follow up care includes annual follow ups...programs to guide you through your changes...a dietician that is there every day to help you with any questions you may have or just to listen to your frustrations.rnrnI am one week post-op. I have lost 16 pounds. I know this surgery was the best decision for me and I am thrilled to say I had it. I also know that I had it done at the best facility possible. In many cases, you either end up with a phenomenal surgeon or phenomenal staff. I got both.rnrnBest of luck to you all. I hope you have as wonderful an experience as I have had/ am having...forever.rnrnOlivia

I met with Dr. Custer on June 6, 2007 at Barix of Ohio. I really liked his directness, looking me in the eye, and frankness on the good and bad of WLS. He was quick to stress that it is not the 'end all be all' solution, but simply a tool, a very drastic tool in the fight. Very impressed so far. rnrnUpdate: 12/04/2007.rnrnI am one week out from surgery, and I could not have asked for a better surgeon. I had no complications, recovered great, and a week later, am feeling good.rnrnOne of my biggest concerns was the additional complexities of having bypass surgery on someone my size. Dr. Custer told me he only felt comfortable doing it open. I took his advice, and it worked out great.rn

I thought that he was really nice and caring about each individuals situation. My impression of Dr. Custer has not changed, the office staff is very nice but sometimes they can screw things up but that is anyone. I would rate the staff and the Doctors and Barixs clinics at least a solid 7.

dr custer is great. he is sensitive to why you have come to see him.. he has been the "fat kid" and knows how tough it is! he really wants you to know as much about the surgery as possible..willing to answer any questions you have, and his nurse, rosa, is awsome! she is so helpful. this is a great program. ive been to another wls program before and they werent nearly as helpful with all of the pre-surgical hoops you have to jump through or even concerned about post-op..ive already met my personal trainer ill have after surgery..dietitian before and after surgery to help you through..its is a COMPLETE program..they set all of that up for me!

I now have Dr. Marcus Miller for my surgeon, I opted to stay with Mid Ohio Surgical when Dr. Custer left, and I am very grateful that I did. Dr. Miller did emergency surgery on me 2-23-05 and I think he is one of the most excellent surgeons there is. He is very personable and caring and takes time to explain everything to you and gives you time to ask questions, I would recommend him to everytone!!He truly saved my life, and I appreciate that he was my surgeon.

Dr. Custer was a young doctor who came across as very skilled and knowledgable about WLS. He explained the risks of having the surgery and was very willing to answer any question that my husband and I had about the surgery. He explained that I would have to have my surgery done open as my BMI was high and that i would have to follow all the instructions and explained that I would have to get exercise after the surgery. The nurse was very thorough in explaining what I would need and who I would need to contact.
He left the practice about six months after my WLS.
