Thomas A. Jones Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
Wonderful doctor. Caring, attentive, thorough, and down to earth.
Staff is fantastic. Takes a lot of appointments to go through before meeting Dr. Jones, but now (9 days pre-op) I'm glad I went through what I did. Staff have all had WLS and understand what patients are going through. That's invaluable.
Aftercare is important. He emphasizes the "team" approach at PNMC and I feel like I'm getting a lot of one-on-one attention.
No rush at appointments, well informed, and all questions were answered. This will be my 14th (major) surgery. I've NEVER had a surgeon approach a surgery as well as this doctor has.
Aftercare program includes meeting with psychologists, physical therpists, and dieticians, nurses, etc. as needed. Very, very "complete".
Bedside manner is terrific. Surgical competence? Well he's done over 1,000 of these surgeries. Risks were addressed and discussed as they pertain to me...not the "average" patient. Issues were discussed based on my medical history, BMI, etc.
Would recommend Dr. Jones and his staff.
The only negative thing I have to say is about the wait the day I met Dr. Jones. One of a group of 4 patients, I was the last one called in to meet with him after waiting 1-1/2 hours. However, after meeting with him I was so happy that he was my surgeon that I was no longer angry by the time I left.
I first head of the Park Nicollet Bariatric program from my general practitioner. I went to the info session, and since my Dr. had recommended Dr Jones, that is who I chose. I met with him and the insurance went through the first time. The staff has been open and honest, and helpful and available. The program is complete, from about 6 months before you have your operation to at least a year or more out. Their group now have the psychologists and dieticians you need to get the approval (Blue cross is a stickler for that). Dr. Jones is a happy person and will answer all your questions--just remember to write them down before you go in. I liked knowing I would see him in the hospital after the procedure, and he told me how it went. He told my family that right afterwards, but I was too groggy to remember anything. He mostly does RNY laproscopically, but if things go poorly, it could become an open procedure. Either way he is very competant with many bypasses and years under his belt.
I met Dr. Jones at the end of April 04. My first impression was he is very interested in helping his patients. He was friendly and I felt completely at ease after meeting him. All the nurses who work with the program are awesome (Teri, Barb, and Kurt) have all assisted me at some point in my journey and they are all top notch at their jobs. The day of my surgery Dr. Jones stopped to visit with me in pre-op prior to surgery, it was nice just to see a familiar face prior to surgery.
Dr. Jones was wonderful to meet with. He made me feel very relaxed, was straight forward and answered all of my questions for me. His office staff is also wonderful. He makes sure you understand the risks of surgery and that there is a structured aftercare program you are expected to follow. I would recommend Dr. Jones to anyone who is thinking about having this surgery. On my way out from my appt. I met one of the nurses, Barb J., and she just made my visit all the more great! She is a fantastic person to work with and helps you to feel excited and calms any worries you may have. She has a wonderful smile, and can always brighten your day!
The only complaint for the day of my cons. would have been the wait time for registering. I really can't call it a complaint though, it was their first day using a new computer system and you can't really fault them for the learning curve. They were extremely pleasant and apologetic for the wait.
Dr. was very knowlegeable & caring.
His staff was very competant & caring.
He spent 1 hr answering questions & explaining the surgery to me & what to expect. He was very forthright & honest about answers, including unsuccessful surgies. He also addressed risks of surgery.
I would rate Dr. Jones as excellent.
Both Dr. Jones surgical competence & bedside manner were great!
I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Jones and his staff. I was impressed from the start. They carefully reviewed for me the difference between the bypass and the banding. Together we were able to make the decision that was right for me. I had a lap band on Dec. 4. After care booklet and appointments have been positive. I have not had my first fill yet but will soon (I think). The dietician was not helpful. She only read to me what was in the booklet. I needed information on the lap band and protein supplements and the hospital dietician was not able to give me information or samples. I think samples are a must because products are so expensive and not all taste good. There are also big differences. Fortunately, I teach nutrition so I knew what to look for.
The risks of surgery were addressed. That was another reason why I went with lap band. Dr. Jones explained that the initial weight loss would be slower but over time, people being banded would continue to lose for a long time as the band can be adjusted for individual needs. Also, no dumping syndrome or malabsorption.
I was entirely comfortable with the procedure and care.
Dr Tom Jones was fun. He took his time during our visit. I never felt rushed. He didn't look at me funny when I asked questions that I thought were kind of silly (I really did want to know the answer). Dr. Jones has a terrific smile and an extremely pleasant attitude.
The office staff in the Bariatric surgery department is Superb. They are helpful and friendly and they get back to you when they say they will.
The Bariatric Team at Methodist hospital is Outstanding. The are efficient, well organized and friendly. They take all the worry out of the process so that you can focus on yourself and your health.
Dr. Jones was very upfront about the risks associated with bariatric surgery. He didn't try to sugar coat things or make the risks seem unsubstantial.
I would rate Dr. Jones and his team a 10 and I wouldn't want anyone else handling my WLS. I can honestly say I have (to date) not had any negative experiences with the WLS process.
I am now almost three weeks post-op and still don't have one negative thing to say about Dr Jones and his staff. Dr Jones and his staff came to visit me regularly in the hospital to make sure I was being well taken care of. To me Dr Jones is a truly caring human being who takes what he does very seriously and yet enjoys helping people and having fun.
