Thad Boss Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Thad Boss performed my surgery and I had no issues initially. My surgery was 5/25/2005. In July 2005, I moved to Phoenix, AZ and started a new life. My support group in Phoenix disbanded soon after I joined, so I have been on my own.
In November 2007, I had such a severe stomach ache that I knew something was wrong. I called 911 and went to the hospital where it was determined that my small intestine had herniated near the point of reconnection to my stomach nearly causing my stomach to burst. Dr, Steven Simon of Phoenix, AZ performed the emergency surgery to correct the situation, which required open surgery. I recovered, but have since gained back 30 pounds and am not sure why, although I find I can eat more than before the corrective surgery and get hungry more than before.
I would still have the surgery again because it made a huge positive impact on my life.

I first met Dr. Boss in July 2004 while I was in hospital for a partial bowel obstruction. My surgeon, Dr. Dass, had asked him to speak with me about gastrointestinal bypass surgery. I found him to be very knowledgeable, kind, concerned, caring, and nice. He didn’t just tell me the benefits he wanted to make sure I understood all the risks involved. I like him. He doesn’t just tell you what he thinks you want to hear. He tells you the truth no matter what. I next saw Dr. Boss at his seminar November 17. It was only supposed to be 1 ½ hours long (from 2 pm until 3:30 pm) I had to leave at 4:45 pm and He was still answering questions. I respect and trust him and that seems to grow stronger the longer I know him. Two days after his seminar, November 19, I was back in the hospital with another bowel obstruction. Dr. Dass, Dr. Boss and their teams decided that Dr. Boss would take over my care. So, Dr. Boss took over my care after 3 days after I was admitted and ended up doing surgery to clear the blockage and repair a hernia on November 26. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable in the operating room while waiting for surgery to start. I remember he was the first person I saw after the surgery and again he went out of his way to make sure I knew everything would be ok. rnTammy, his office manager, is GREAT!!!!! She is a very helpful, caring person. rnrnrnDr. Boss passed away on Dececmber 20, 2008 and is greatly missed by family, friends and patients. rn

Dr. Boss is great. During my 1:1 appointment he answered all of my questions and went over the surgery in detail. I worked with Kathy, nutritionist, and found her to be easy to talk with also. While in the hospital I saw Dr. Boss a couple of times along with 2 of his residents and one of his partners. Again, all were very positive, personable and CARING! My experience at the hosptial was a good one, thanks to the caring doctors, nurses and patient techs at Highland Hospital.

My first impression of Dr.Boss was that he seemed very down to earth and was very enthusiastic about the benifets of WLS.He seemed very confident in his ability to change my life.He also strongly pointed out the risks as well.He emphasizes how important aftercare is.I feel that the aftercare was not through enough. He didn't check my blood every time I went in for check ups.the last time I went he never asked about my sugar readings to adjust my medication properly and I forgot to ask.I shouldn't have to ask!His staff was great!!!Tammy in the office is so on top of everything.I think the nutritionist should have focused more on after surgery nutrition along with preperation for surgery. As a surgen Dr.Boss was great I think he needs to step up the on the check ups a bit.His surgical competence is top notch!!! I also appreciated his wonderful bedside manor!!! This was my personal experience.Would I do it again? Yes!!!! WLS. has been so benificial to my health and my happiness.

Dr. Boss is a wonderful Dr. He was patient and explained everything I needed to know. Dr. Boss's staff was as wonderful and there whenever needed. I have recomended him to several friends that have had the surgery and are also happy with Dr. Boss and his office staff.rnI was lucky and had no real complications, but if I only had a simple question they called back every time. Dr. Boss is great and I would have it done again tomorrow if need be.

I finally had my one-on-one with Dr. Boss last week. He was very patient and took the time to let me and my husband ask all the questions we needed to. From the research I've done, he seems to be one of the very best and I believe I'll be in good hands.
I really like his assistant, Tammy. Very competent and you can tell she has been doing this stuff for a while. The people at the front desk weren't overly friendly or welcoming, but they weren't rude either. I know medical offices get very busy, but it is so important to understand that, not only are they dealing with people who are on the brink of making a very serious change in our lives, but we are also often insecure about ourselves to begin with. I guess I would have just liked to see a few more smiles, or at least have someone return my smile.
Their program seems very comprehensive and follows all the guidelines. The nutritionist was helpful and seemed supportive.
I guess I'll know more once the surgery has been completed and I begin healing. That is usually when you see how everyone operates.
Post op: I was so impressed with my surgeon and the team he works with in the OR. They have such synergy, and the more people I talked to while waiting, the more I learned about him. He and his surgical team are so very competent and he has an incredible track record. I am so glad I chose him. I couldn't have been in better hands.
I recommend Dr. Boss to anyone in the Rochester area. I also recommend the program, in general that he and Dr. O'Malley have in place. The aftercare has been great. Dr. Boss is conservative about re-introducing foods and allowing plenty of healing time. I attribute this to part of the reason that I have not once had any nausea or vomiting. I also like the fact that when I call the office with a question, the nurse has gotten back to me the same day both times. She was supportive and gave me a lot of extra information and encouragement.
I'd give this group a 10 !!!
