Quiet spoken and allowed me to tell him what I understood about the surgery and why I felt I was a good candidate. He told me how the surgery is performed, drew me some pictures, asked questions about various health issues and explained the next steps we needed to take.
Hard to describe his office staff....as they were just moving offices across town and were in an adjustment period. Some of the people I spoke with on the phone were w/o a clue and I had to keep calling till I found someone who could give me the info I needed.
The nurse who oversees the bariatric surgery program is Connie Pollard and she is great. She is a very busy woman and therefore, it is hard to reach her on the phone. She is very matter of fact, but does share her enthusiasm with the patients and was very happy for me when I got approved.
There are several dr.'s in this program, Dr. Glorsky, Dr. Scarborough, Dr. Wilson and Dr. Moody(retired)and they are very busy!! They have developed a very good reputation in the Houston area and that means they are busy. It is interesting to see the different personal styles and ways they discuss the information. I attended the info seminar, after meeting Dr. Scarborough, and was surprised by the difference in Dr. Glorsky's style and perceptions about the surgery. He shared the vision they have for the clinic which will include a great deal of follow up care and group support.
I will go back on Oct.1 to see Dr. S. and have him review the scary stuff that could happen with the surgery.
Bedside manner is nice..but, most dr's I have met in my life, were iffy in the bedside manner department...I just figured they were nerdy kids who grew up to be nerdy guys who studied a lot and it wasn't my place to judge them on their comfort level in dealing with people. What mattered more is how competent they are when my life or that of a loved one is in their hands.
2/8/02 -- Called to make my appointment with Dr. Moody. I am scheduled to meet with him on 3/13/02. I am very excited about this meeting with him and am hopeful for good news from him and his staff regarding insurance bennefits.
3/13/02 -- Met with Dr. Moody today. He is very through and his staff members are extremely nice. He explained everything to me very carefully. He explained the risk and the bennefits of having this surgery. He made a few suggestions of things I need to do in order to make my surgery go as smoothly as possible. He wanted me scheduled for an Upper GI and UltraSound. By the time I returned to work after my appointment, his staff was calling with dates and times for my appointment. I was very impressed.
4/15/02 -- Found out today that Dr. Moody is retiring. I am being seen by his associate Dr. Scarborough
7/31/02 -- Met with Dr. Scarborough at my Pre-Op Exam. He was very nice and answered all my questions and didn't rush me out of his office...even though he was due in surgery in half an hour...he told me they couldn't start without him...hehehe
8/10/02 -- Had a complication after surgery...thought I might have had a small leak...Dr. Scarborough stopped by to see me even though it was the weekend and all of his associates had seen me...he has been so wonderful.
8/12/02 -- Finally moved to a regular room (was in ICU for 3 days) Dr. Scarborough stopped by at nearly 11 at night to see me...was in the hospital for an emergency with another patient and wanted to see how I was doing since being moved to the floor. Have I mentioned he's been great!!!!
i was first scheduled with Dr Glorsky but my employer has filed bankruptcy and im affraid my insurance will be dropped so his staff has rescheduled me to see Dr.SCARBOROUGH. CONNIE IS NOW ON VACATION so Ive talked to my PC DR. AND SHE IS FAXING THE LETTER OF NECESSITY" SO it will be there in the office for her when she comes in Monday. Hopefully that will get the ball rolling. The staff is Very friendly and easy to talk to. im really really looking forward to my surgery. Yaaaahh! My surgery date is AUGUST 26th Can you believe it.... God(you little buggar) YOU ARE GOOD TO ME !!!!!
I really Liked him at my first visit. He seemed really ready to get going and start on the letter to the insurance company immediately. He was very reassuring about my risks and very candid about aftercare. I will have my second visit within two weeks since I have to have my ultrasound and ugi on tuesday.
