Tananchai Lucktong Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
During my initial consultation with Dr. Lucktong, I found him to be a very caring individual who wants his patients to understand every aspect of the surgical procedure, including possible complications and risks. I was shown a video, which I found to be very informative. Dr. Lucktong made me feel like he had all the time in the world to talk to me, even though I knew he was running behind schedule. He even apologized for keeping me waiting. He stressed the importance of the surgery being a "tool" not a quick fix and stressed the seriousness of the decision to have surgery. He has a structured aftercare program, which includes yearly visits for life. He and his staff were extremely helpful and friendly. His nurse, Becky, made me feel that she really cares about what I'm going through and is excited about the changes that will be taking place in my life. While bedside manner is important, I feel that surgical competence is most important if you can't have both. I am very confident in Dr. Lucktong's surgical abilities and I feel that he will also have a good bedside manner. At this point (waiting for approval)I would highly recommend Dr. Lucktong to anyone who is looking for a weight loss surgeon in the Roanoke/Southwest Virginia area.
My first impression of Dr. Lucktong is that he seemed "nervous". But, I attributed this to being new to our area. In addition, I'm a paralegal and know that while some attorneys dont really come across that well in the office they "shine" in a courtroom. While I was in the hospital, I couldnt say enough good things. He saw me twice a day and his residents saw me once a day. I was very impressed. He did seem to "loosen" up a but toward the end of my hospital stay. I have my first preop appointment on 11/7 so I'm not sure about aftercare. Dr. Lucktong is very thorough when going over the risks of the surgery during the preop appointment. He does this in person and does not rely on nurses for this important task. I give him a 10 out of 10 overall!! His surgical competence vs. bedside manner appear to be about equal. They're both GREAT! One thing that impressed me the most was that he told me in the hospital to use my pain medication as much as I needed and not to try to "tough" it out. He said he was a firm believer in pain control and did not want his patients in any more pain than absolutely necessary.
