Tananchai Lucktong Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
March 2003
I attended an information session with Dr. Lucktong this week for people in the area that are considering WLS. He totally answered any questions the audience had; leaving no room for speculation. I haven't had my consultation with him yet but I already know that he is the right surgeon for me.
July 2003
His office staff is very nice, helpful and extremely overworked. Dr. Lucktong was very patient and open to any questions I had during the consultation. He is extremely thorough and will not schedule surgery, until you have received the thumbs up on any other tests he feels are needed. I had several tests and specialists visits before the surgery could be scheduled. At the time, that was very irritating because I wanted the surgery, NOW. However, now I am very glad to know that I am going into the surgery knowing that I am medically ok to have the surgery. I have a five year old to think about and knowing that information is very comforting and makes me believe that Dr. Lucktong was definitly the right choice in surgeons.
Dr. Lucktong made a very good first impression. He was very professional, yet quick to smile and laugh. I was nervous when I first went in, but he quickly put me at ease. He explained what would happen during surgery and his aftercare, then answered any questions my husband and I had to our satisfaction. 6/9/03 I am even happier with Dr. Lucktong. He has my recommendation.
I had my initial appointment with Dr. Lucktong. He was very helpful and very professional. The movie he provided during the consultation was very informative and it helped me with understanding the surgery process. I felt very at ease with Dr. Lucktong. I had seen another surgeon and did not feel the same comfort level that I did with Dr. Lucktong. Becky, his nurse, is also part of the reason I feel so good about this surgery and the doctor. She was very friendly and took all the time I needed to answer my silly questions. She has been great at following up with me and scheduling other pre-op procedures.
Dr. Lucktong suggested I attend a support meeting which I did last night and it was very interesting and it helped a lot. I met many people in different phases of the process. I not only heard the positives but some of the negatives and it was good for me. My husband was there also to support me. That was a great feeling.

I had my first consultation with Dr. Lucktong today. And, just as I thought, he is quite friendly, yet very professional and very thorough in his pre-surgery. He has a genuine care for his patients, it really shows. The office staff is very friendly as well!!

I attended a informational session for the surgery given by Dr. Lucktong and Dr. Davies. This was quite helpful and very well organized. Mostly, I was very impressed by Dr. Lucktong staying for the support group that was held afterward. This was a support group for the whole valley, not just for Dr. Lucktong and Dr. Davies patients. After the informational meeting the other doctors left, but Dr. Lucktong stayed for the entire support group session. He was very helpful in answering questions that everyone had. He shows a genuine and sincere concern for not only his patients, but for other patients that have had the bariatric surgery. He appears to have a genuine compassion for his work.

My first Dr. (whom I did not use)
Dr. Leonard Fichter (Hurrican, WV)
My first impression wasn't all that hot, just by sight alone. He's sorta a small man, he has long hair, maybe I'm a bit old fashioned <shrug> but, he's very clean cut otherwise. Although, I have to admit, he was very informative, and very thorough. He was to the point with any questions that I had. And was reassuring with his answers.
Dr Lucktong has a wonderful bedside manner. He left no questions unanswered. He is very caring and honest. I was made to feel very comfortable by all staff in the office. He will answer anything that is asked of him. Aftercare was discussed and explained the risks of the surgery and of course the risks with any surgery.
I was a little nervous and first but he quickly set my mind at ease and I feel totally comfortable with him doing my surgery. He was honest and explained that he was also new to the area. I think he will do great though!
My first impression of Dr. Lucktong was - "he is nice and very professional" - he reviewed the surgery, my health and diet history and answered all (35) of my questions honestly! He did not "sugar coat" the surgery - he told me it was very serious and that things don't always turn out 100% perfect, but he was also very positive about my own personal goals and he felt that he was very qualified to perform Laproscopic surgery and that I should do well with this type of surgery. He does not "joke around" too much - but he is nice. He has a good aftercare policy - 2weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. He encourages you to go to support meetings, and most especially to rely on friends going through the same thing. He addressed the risks of surgery on a very informative basis and said that this is a very serious surgery and needs to be considered strongly before actually making any decisions. There was no pressure from him to have or not have the surgery - he just gave me all the facts. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate him a 10 adressing the surgery and providing all information; on a personal basis I would rate him an 8 on personality. His office staff is friendly and have been helpful. Overall my initial consultation was a very pleasant experience.

I am a little upset with the the doc's office - they were supposed to send my letter of approval into Trigon on 7/31/02 - I found out that it had not been sent and would be faxed today! Oh well, I am sure everyone who is waiting on surgery feels this way.
my first impression of lucktong was great he was very through and explained every thing that was going to take place got to love him
his staff was vry helpfull in every way especially becky she is so wonderful
well all i can tell u about what ii was not to thrilled about was he made me have lots and lots of test and i did not like that to much but all n all it made me feel better cause i know he knew what to do for the best care possible
My first impression of Dr. Lucktong was that he seemed to know exactly what he was talking about and he seemed to be very kind and caring. My impression of Dr. Lucktong only got better, i think he is a wonderful surgeon. Dr. Lucktongs office staff is also great his nurse Becky is absolutely wonderful you couldn't ask for a nicer person. From the very beginning Dr. Lucktong went over the positive as well as the negatives of the surgery and he told me strait out what the risks were. Overall i think he is a wonderful dr. and would recommend anyone to him. he is so nice and understanding and will sit down and talk to you like your a real person. Everything about him is great and his bedside manner and surgical competance seem to be 100%. Honestly i can't think of anything negative to say about Dr. Lucktong..ofcourse that is just one experience, someone else could feel completely different.
My first impression of Dr. Lucktong at first was hurried. He had just finished a surgery and was running behind. My husband and I had to wait for him for an hour. Once he got settled in, I realized he was a really nice guy who genuinely cared about his patients. His staff were really nice and very helpful, too.
Dr. Lucktong really pushes the notion of life-long aftercare and follow-up. He is a firm believer in support groups.
Dr. Lucktong said that he is a young man, so he hasn't done a hundred of these surgeries yet, which kind of made me nervous, but then he said he was extrememly comfortable in his knowledge of performing them, and I beliveed him. He was really nice.
The risks of surgery were clearly explained, and I had to sign papers stating that I understood the risks and that all of my questions had been answered.
I would feel better rating him after my surgery, and I feel I would rather have surgical competence than bedside manner. I can deal with a rude doctor, I can't deal with being dead.
