Of course, nervous and excited for my journey, I had no idea what to expect. I found Dr. Bhoyrul under my insurance, and then began reading all of the great reviews from other patients of his. I figured that if that many people were praising him, and his work then why not meet him for myself, right?! Best decision I could have made! From the second I walked in I was greeted by all of the ladies at the front desk. The office was clean and professional, yet homey in a sense, and I noticed the level of confidentiality the ladies at the front desk had when speaking with patients. I didn’t wait long before getting taken back by Bianca, whom is so super nice! Dr. Bhoyrul came in shortly after, introduced himself and gave me the biggest hug. He went over all of my health concerns at the time, high blood, type two diabetes, my weight, muscle mass, bmi, and metabolism, and so on. He recommended bypass for me personally, as it would be best for me and my situation. I had many questions, and he had many answers. He was down to earth, didn’t rush me, and made me feel that at that moment I was his only priority. Over the following three months I met with Dr. Bhoyrul, Mary the dietician, and Kirsten several times. Mary really helped me get my mind right with this procedure, and I still implement her advice in everyday living now. Many of my family members came with me to my appointments, and they all were amazed with Dr. Bhoyrul. My surgery was on March 27, 2017 and surgery went as smooth as it could have been. I was in the hospital for two days, walking the evening after surgery, and on liquids the following morning after surgery, I did fine. Dr. Bhoyrul and Kirsten came to visit me every day and made sure I had everything I needed. I got a minor rash (not surgery related) four days after surgery, Bianca was so helpful every time I called in with questions about it, and Kirsten saw me right away. Dr. Bhoyrul even stepped in, and together they got me the treatment I needed to clear it up, as I could not take just anything with my new pouch. Within days it was gone. My follow up visits have been great, and no complications. I truly feel like I couldn’t have asked for a better team to help save my life. I was headed towards destruction and I needed this so much.
I started at 275lbs, and am now 225lbs in 7 weeks (that’s 50lbs). My metabolism has increased and my fat has decreased 5%. The most important factor is that my type 2 diabetes was gone by the second day after surgery, and my high blood pressure leveled out the evening after surgery. I am a completely different person. And without the amazing staff at Del Mar Surgical, none of this would be real for me. I owe an infinite number of hugs and thanks to the amazing staff. Dr. Bhoyrul you are one in a million, I could have ended up in any Doctors office, but I am so very fortunate to have met you. Thank you for making this all possible, and for giving me a healthier second chance at life. I only wish I would have found you in my twenty’s though, I would have loved to have had this new hot bod back then. As if having the best surgeon isn’t already great enough, you get Kirsten too! You are so awesome, thank you for spending so much time with me, thank you for your patience and compassion. You always make me feel so comfortable, and at ease. I really appreciate you! And Bianca, you are always so kind and positive. Dr. Bhoyrul is fortunate to have an assistant that treats his patients as well as you do.
On a side note: during my pre-op, check in, stay and even the trip I took to the E.R. for the rash, every time I was asked who my Doctor was and I responded with Dr. Bhoyrul, it didn’t matter what department I was in, if I was talking to a Doctor or nurse or receptionist, everyone had nothing but good things to say about him. The common response “Awe. I love Dr. Bhoyrul, he’s SO awesome!” and he is!
Dr. Sunil Bhoyrul has been my surgeon since 2010. I have had both bariatric and various cancer surgeries performed by Dr. Bhoyrul. My life basically, has been literally in his hands. I am a survivor of renal cell (kidney), colon and pancreatic cancer. It is heartbreaking and scary to deal with this type of diagnosis. It is comforting knowing you have one of the best surgeons in the country working on you, which gave me strength and a feeling of peace. Knowing I had the best, helped me to keep up the fight. I am glad I did!
I got the lap band in 2010 and recently converted to the vertical sleeve. His Staff support is wonderful,! It is a one stop shop with staff monitoring and assisting you in the weight loss journey.
I have the most sensitive, humorous, down to Earth, top surgeon extraordinaire. What is there not to like?
I have found Dr Bhoyrul to be very knowledgeable and very willing to give me feedback or answer any of my questions. He is NEVER in a rush and always greets me with a hug and a smile at every appt. his staff is great and always very cheerful as well. My nutritionist Mary also in his office always has information for me and encourages my questions. I don't think I could have found a better team for this journey!
I have surgery on Oct 9th and am very confident I am in the best of hands.
Dr Bhoyrul saved my life!! I originally started with another surgeon in March 2010 after two failed attempts to correct a complication, the surgeon requested to operate again to try and correct the problem I had been having for 2 years post-op. Since my last surgery performed April 2012 to December 2012 I had daily chronic pain. I had numerous ER visits 30+, tests and hospitalizations. For months I was treated like a drug seeker in ERs and my surgeon basically accused me of the same. After emotinal and physical pain and frustration, my HMO finally approved a consulatation with another Bariatric Surgeon. In steps Dr Bhoyrul. I had my appointment for my consultation scheduled for 12/11/12. The week before that appointment on 12/4 I found myself in the ER yet again with severe abdominal pain and vomiting. Knowing I was to see Dr Bhoyrul in a week I went to the hospital he had privileges. He saw me in the ER listened to what I had to say and was genuine when he said that he would figure this out and fix the problem. He decided the best approach was to open me up and search for the problem. At that point I was willing to do anything to end the nightmare. The next morning I had my third surgery in 2 years relating to my original gastirc bypass. He immediately found the problem and fixed it. I am about 19 days post op and I can't even describe the way I feel today. The chronic pain is gone, of course I had post op pain but the pain I had suffered from was no longer there. Dr Bhoyrul is caring, has an amazing bedside manner, is highly esteemed by his colleagues and is an all around good man. He took the time to listen and do something instead of dismiss me the way most every doctor had done prior to 12/4. I have already had my first post op visit and Dr Bhouyrul will continue to follow me for the next few months. I can't say enough positive things about this man and I have absolutely no negative things to say. It feels amazing to know I have my life back. I am so thankful that he has helped me. I will highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in having bariatric surgery or anyone who needs a second opinion from his or her original surgeon.
After attending and having numerous consults with different bariatric providers, Dr. Bhoyrul made me feel like family on my initial visit and gave me his professional opinion as to what was best for me. Throughout my weight loss journey, he as well as his office staff have been excellent and met all of my health care needs. His staff expeditied the insurance approval process and Ihad my surgery within a month of my initial consult. I have seen Dr. Bhoyrul every 6-8 weeks post surgery for contiued follow-up. I would like to add, 6 months post lap band I felt enlarged lymph nodes in my neck and he immediately scheduled me for surgery and expedited my referral to oncology while he was out of the country! This is true dedication which is rare to find in this current health care environment in which we live. I am now one year out post lap band, 100 pounds lighter! Thank you Dr. Bhoyrul for your excellent service and encouragement. Mitzi Gragson, MSN, NP-C

I can not even begin to say enough good things about Dr. Bhoyrul. He was an AMAZING surgeon and truly cares about his patients. I saw him every day after surgery while I was in the hospital and he never hesitated to answer any of my questions! He has a great bedside manner and his staff is wonderful! After I came home I called the office every day for about a week with different questions. Never once were they bothered that I kept calling! There is nothing bad for me to say about Dr. Bhoyrul or his staff. If you live in Southern California I DEFINITELY recommend him! Overall I give him a 20 out of 10!!!
