When I first considered surgery for weight loss, I met with my PCP for advise. He recommended that I investigate St. Vincent's Hospital in Carmel, Indiana, three hours drive from my home, because the clinic was a "state of the art" facility and program. I am very glad I took his advise! I made a few phone calls and made an appointment for an educational class about RNY surgery and a private meeting with Dr. RoseMarie Jones. Dr. Jones is an outstanding surgeon. When I first met her, I asked how many RNY surgeries she had performed. She said that she stopped counting at three thousand! I had my LAP RNY surgery six months ago and do not regret my decision to have the surgery at all. Dr. Jones has described to me how she "individualizes" her surgery for each patient in order to give each patient the best surgery possible. Whatever she did to "individualize" my surgery worked! I have lost over 100 pounds so far and have not experienced horrible side effects of the surgery such as the "dumping syndrome" that I have read about. I highly recommend Dr. Jones to anyone who is considering WLS.
I have the utmost confidence in Rose Marie Jones. She emits confidence, she has been doing this for 15 years, no one has ever died and she has compassion for you.
The staff is somewhat understaffed in regards to insurance and you have to do a lot of the steps and keep in close contact. The office continues to grow and they may need a tad more clerical help!!
If you want someone with lots of experience, a hospital program that is especially for the obese patient, and compassion, check out Dr. Jones.
Dr. Jones is the greatest. I would rate her a 10/10. She has a very personable presentation - is willing to listen and answer any questions you have - but has a very organized approach so that most of your questions are answered beforehand. She and her office staff went out of their way to accomodate my needs since I was coming from out of state. The surgery went off without a hitch. Was up walking the same day. My post op visit was 5 days after surgery - at which time she removed the drain. No problems or complications at all. Anyone would be blessed to choose Dr. Jones. I would rater her a 10/10. She works hand in hand with the bariatric center at St. Vincent's Carmel. The only drawbacks I noted was that the chairs at the bariatric center were very wide with arms... so all apples would be accomodated nicely - but me - with my pear shaped behind - felt the pinch. They should have some options available. The hospital itself was VERY fat friendly with a variety of seating from the lobby to the private rooms. A variety of beds too - depending on the need of the patient. Dr. Jones office is also not the most fat friendly. The weighting area was fine. However, the clinic room... had one of those tall tables with a tiny lil stool with no handles. No way I could have climbed up there. She did have a long wide bench in the room - so I sat there to have my tube removed. Still - I think she should have either a lower tx table or a different type of stool to get up on the table. They have a nurses line and a dieticians line so you can call for help - plus you can email each dietician directly. The nurses at the hospital were great - Samantha was the best. The aides were good as well. Very friendly, professional and helpful!
When I met for the Group consult she was very personable and got right to the point.
I just thought the group meeting was a little too short.
Then I had my one on one with her and she listened to my concerns and explained everything to me.
She came and met me before the surgery and had her picture taken by the Terre Haute Tribune Star. She answered all the questions and showed concern for me. I felt very comfortable.
Then after the surgery she came in the next day and told me I could go home and made sure that I knew what to do. She was great.
Dr. Jones was my guardian angel. I cannot stress enough how much her bedside manner and her professionalism meant to me when I was in the hospital with my gastric bypass. My five day stay turned into 5 weeks! She never once made me feel any of the complications were my fault. She would sit on the side of my bed, hold my hand and answer any questions I had. She also took the time to call my children to keep them informed on what was happening.
I have recommended several people to her from the Bloomington area. Not one of them has had a bad experience and they all have loved her like I do. They in turn have referred their family and friends to her also.
Her post op care is great.
The only thing I feel that is needing some improvement is the long term after care. We still have some questions and it's sometimes hard to get answers from her staff or directions on who may help with issues.
She has great surgical competence along with a terrific bedside manner, which equals a great win-win situation.
