Had my initial consultation today with Dr. Rosemarie Jones. Very informative. She took the time to talk to each one of us. I am going to have the Lap surgery done. Just waiting on my medical nessecity paper for insurance now. :-))
2-14-03 I had my surgery on 1-30-03 with Dr. Rosemarie Jones. She is the BEST!! Very sweet and caring!
I met Dr. jones last January '02 when my husband Bob went for his initial consult. I liked her and thought she did a wonderful job of explaining and answering both of our questions and addressing our concerns. As far as the office staff, the initial consult with her is in the Bariatric Office at Carmel St. Vincent. Not in her office.
Dr. Jones is easy to talk with and listens to you. I have had a DVT with a PE this past year and she answered all of my concerns and I feel confidant in her judgement and the way she will handle my surgery.
She did Bob's surgery 11/21/02 and after a ruff start with a leak he is doing great. I feel she is excited for me too, to join my husband on this new life adventure...
She has an excellent bedside manner. She sits down and listens to you and takes notes when she sees you. I thought that was a nice touch.
I would recommend her and rate her an A+
My first impression of Dr. Jones was very good. She seems to be very personable and will be very interested in how I do after surgery with follow ups. She did not hurry through her presentation and did not rush through the questions. All questions were important to her and she made sure you understood the answer. It was a group consultation which was very good, because there were questions asked that I would have not thought of. The office staff was very nice.
I met with Dr Jones on 2/5/03. I really liked her and felt very comfortable with her. I believe she did a wonderful job explaining the risks vs benifits of WLS. She also spoke a lot about the after care and changes you will have to make in your life. I also felt that she was very knowledgeable about the surgery she performs. All of this is my first impression, only time will tell for sure. As far as the office staff, I think I will give them one more shot before I post about them.
I really felt very comfortable with Dr Jones, she seems to be very sincere about her passion to help us overcome obesity. I have only been to the consultation so far, but with those in her staff that I have dealt with were great. I did think her office was really small, but they said they are going to be moving soon to a bigger place. I think they did very well dealing with all the people, but I was disappointed that my support person couldn't stay with me for the consultation, I wanted her to be able to get her questions answered also.
I attended the Laparoscopic Bypass Seminar on Wednesday, January 8, 2003. Her class was supposed to start at 1:00 PM, but didn't get started until 1:30 PM. Which was great for me because I was 15 minutes late. Her staff was really nice and helpfull. I went up to the window to sign in and I had forgot all of my paper work and they gave me a new packet. I filled the packet out. The class was really formative and I feel much better about having the surgery done now. The main thing that I was worried about was dying. There is less than 1% chance that will happen. The main reasons why patients die was because they didn't follow up with walking right after surgery. In which they formed blood clots and died. The other reason was because the patients died not due to the surgery but due to a heart attack, etc. But they had to include that with the surgery percentage because they died within 6 months after surgery. I will also tell you to show up for the seminar early because at the end of the class she talks with one person at a time and they go by when you signed in. I was last so I sat for 3 hours waiting to see her. But that was my fault not hers. During class she was very patient and answered questions very well. She knows what she is doing and I like that about her. I felt really comfortable in her class and in the waiting room because her chairs were not too small and they were very comfortable. If you are big and have problems fitting normal sized seat, you know what I mean. Her staff was really patient and helpful. I have read the past reports of people saying they had to wait for the predetermination letter from her for forever or even having to keep calling back, well I had now problems at all. I received her letter a week and a half later. In which seeing how big the class was, I was surprised to receive it so soon. So I have faxed my letters and past health reports to my insurance and I am waiting to hear back. In which it could take up to 6-8 weeks. But Dr. Jones would like for you to call your insurance company every 2 weeks to follow up with them. All in all, everything went great!
My first impression of Dr. Jones was that she had a very kind face and she seemed to be really understand the complexities of obesity. She wasn't at all judgemental. My impression of Dr.Jones has not changed through this whole process. She is a busy woman and rushed at times. Dr. Jones' office staff are incredibly busy as well and can be a little "gruff" at times. There was nothing that I disliked about Dr.Jones. For future patients I would advise them that they will be seeing very little of Dr. Jones and will mostly be dealing with her office staff, her nurse Lee and other medical personnel after surgery. In her consultation speech Dr. Jones does emphasize after care but mostly the dieticians discuss this with patients from what I could tell. There is a structured after care program in place but since I live 2.5 hours away from Carmel I mostly rely on my friend Pat who had surgery on the same day I did for support. On a scale for 1-10 I would rate Dr.Jones a 10. I feel that Dr. Jones surgical competence is amazing, she did lap Rny on me and I weighed 410 pounds. This is usually unheard of but she pulled it off without a hitch and boy am I glad I didn't have to have it open--ouch!!!!! As far as bedside manner the nurses' and tech's were absolutely superb at making me comfortable after surgery.
I did a lot of research on the net before my surgery. I chose Dr. Jones for silly reasons. I was looking at the St. Vincent-Carmel Bariatric site and chose her based on appearance. She just had the kindest face. When I met her in person, my initial impression was right on target. I fully trusted her and I liked the fact that she is a petite person so the incision would have been relatively small. Everyone in her office has consistantly been very nice and helpful towards me. A few of her staff can even recognize me when I come to the office for a visit even before I sign in. That is real nice. Dr. Jones is real concerned about her patient's success. She checks with me at each visit about whether I am sticking to the program and if I am having considerable problems with any of it. She was even very diligent about checking with me after all the complications I had. Dr. Jones followed the same procedures as her fellow surgeons about addressing the risks. It was up to me to listen and I guess I didn't listen well enough. That doesn't matter though because it wouldn't have effected my decision much. Given the chance to do it all over again, I would still choose Dr. Jones because she is not to blame for my complications. She has been very good to me the whole time and I am glad that I chose to work with her.
Dr. Jones at the first meeting seems compassionate and caring. The office staff seemed to be understanding and very helpful with obtaining insurance approval. Dr. Jones holds a "class" instructional 1st visit with approx 20-30 others and addresses the risks/benefits of surgery. Dr. Jones has a way of making you feel as though your best friend happens to be your surgeon.
My surgery was on Dec. 2 with Rosemarie Jones. She was able to do my laprny in 45 minutes!! No complications. I am so happy with her. She is so positive and helpful. I just love her smile. My only negative seems to be that my drain is leaking around the top. But if that is all I have to deal with, I am a lucky person.
