When I first met my surgeon he was very quiet but seemed genuinely concerned about my weight problem. My impression never changed since I only saw him the one time. His office staff has been nothing but nice and very helpful. The part that I didn't like about my surgeon is I never saw him once after my surgery. I only saw him for approx one minute before and never after. I saw many residents afterwards that were very nice and informative, though. If you are considering him for your surgeon don't expect to see him much. His skills outshine everything. They have a class that you attend prior to scheduling your surgery that is very informativeand stresses what to do after surgery along with a blooklet. They listed the risks as similar as to that of having open heart surgery. He did not cover over the risks or try to make them look unimportant. He is an excellent surgeon with an excellent background and CV. I would rate him a 10. I would like to have it all, surgical competence with a good bedside manner but if I couldn't have both I would choose surgical competence.

very favorable impression; my impression did not negatively change; office staff is competent and helpful; I did entered into this process after much careful consideration and thoroughly studied the process; Dr. De La Torre and his staff was right for me. I listened to them carefully and knew that adversely doing what they told me would not hurt them only me and my health. I did not look to them for all of the answers or directions. Early on, much before surgery, I retained a nutritionist; I went to support group in Kansas City as well as Jefferson City. I did use the obesityhelp.com web site. However, I never felt like I wanted to share my story with the world. Dr. De La Torre and staff are not babysitters. To their credit, they assume we are competent and able to monitor our own health. After all we care more about our own health than anyone else. I understood the risks of the surgery and listened carefully as it was explained to me. I read a couple of books on our subject and was very active in my own aftercare program. I give them a very high overall score and was very comfortable and satisfied with the surgical competendence, bedside manner and hospital care. After all no one, including us or we would not be in this exogenous obese state, is perfect.

What can I say about the surgeon who saved my life? Dr. Roger Dela Torre is the best surgeon you could choose for a gastric RNY. I had no complications whatsoever, and my lap scars have healed so completely that my primary care physician commented that Dela Torre is the most skilled surgeon she had ever seen. If you are lucky enough to make it into this program, you can look forward to a wonderful new life!

I really didnt know what to exspect of Dr da la Torre because I have heard you either like him or you dont - and most people didnt like his bed side manner but still used him as their surgeon. I personally really liked him, he was so confident in his skill that you knew you were in the right place. And yes he was very serious, but this surgery and decision is also very serious so I would exspect nothing less from a professional. I just thank God that Dr da la Torre and Dr Scott have expanded and now do the surgeries in Columbia also. And because I chose to have it done there I will do all my after care in Columbia with Dr Scott. What a relief! I do think these two are miracle workers or dream makers - because they are touching lives with every surgery they do - I am so blessed to be one of the lucky ones.

10/01/04 Haven't met Dr. De La Torre yet, however, I have spoke to his nurse, Nancy. She hasn't failed to come through for me yet. I pray things continue the same way.

10/14/04 Met Nancy and Dr. de la Torre today. Nancy was very informative. She spoke with our group for several hours. She walked us throught what to expect before, during and after surgery.

Also met Dr. de la Torre. He spoke for about an hour, then took questions. I was full of questions, but felt like an idiot if I would have asked all of them...so I went to obesity help friends and asked them. I should have just ask them...but I couldn't bring myself to do so. Dr. de la Torre was very concerned with his patients needs first. His main concern seemed to be with getting his patients on the operating table and off without any clots causing problems or death. He walked us through the surgery and was very up front with the risks.

I will rate him after surgery...however, so far it would have to be a 8...but just because his schedule is so busy that he didn't have time to meet with each of us individually. It would definately have been better if "group" was on a different day than when post op paients have office visits.

Will update more after my surgery.

He is very kind, especially for a surgeon with his good reputation.
So far I have only seen him once, for my pre surgery visit. I might have talked to him in the surgery, before I was under or after, but I can’t remember. I wish I would have seen him in the hospital after that. I was seen by a doctor each day but it was never Dr. De La Torre. I should see him for my 1 week post op check up.

First of all, I was very impressed by the structure of the program my surgeon offered. From the first contact through aftercare, they give you step-by-step instructions. Plus, any questions are answered with just one phone call and they are open to anything you want to ask! Dr. de la Torre was very honest and forthright about the benefits and risks of the surgery. He too, asked many times if I had any questions. I would rate my surgeon, his office staff, and their program A+!

I thought the Dr. was very nice and had a good bedside manner.

I was switched to another Dr.

Great office staff.

I could find no fault with him.

Use him he is good.

Good after care.

Yes but it is too far away from where I live to participate.

He covered everything with me very well.

Excellent.

Both Great.
