at first i was a little worried. he does so many surgeries that i was worried about him being over confident and messing up. he was straight forward about risk and complications. i unfortunatly did have complications and was at first upset and afraid. the hospital at mu took good care of me i am very pleased with their surgical icu unit. nurses were very attentive and caring. i had one nurse who even waited past her shift for me to come out of resurgery to make sure i was ok because i had been so upset. de la torre fixed the issue and now at a year out i realize everything that happened were risk i had been informed were possible and they were diligent in caring for my problems and after care. i personally am very thankful for dr. de la torre and his office staff and expecially that nurse in sergical icu. i was so scared and she was there for me. wish i had gotten her name so i could thank her personally.
I had Gastric Bypass surgery Sept 2009 in Columbia Mo with Dr. De La Torre I only saw him once, a week before my surgery in a class. He seems to really know his stuff about weight-loss surgery. I did not like the Columbia Office the staff is not very nice. They act like they really don't care and when you have questions your waisting their time. I hate calling them when I have a question. I really wish I could see Dr. De La Torre at my vists. If I could do it all over again I would go to his office in St Louis or another Doctor all together.
I was very impressed with all the comments that people left about him and that I have delt with his staff *Andrea Patsy Stacy and they are so awesome !!
Dr. Louise Yavitz was my therapist and we connected in an instant.
All I have to say is that I look forward to the death of my old habits and horrible food choices and welcome new life of healthy choices and family support !!
My first impression of my surgeon was good. I was a special case whereas insurance required me to see him fives times before I could get approval. Each visit was short and no longer but fives minutes. But after each visit he apologized that time spent was little, but insurance required I see him so many times. Over time he put me at ease about his capabilities as a surgeon and his concern as a person. A very honest and straight to the point surgeon. rnrnI would recommend Dr. De La Torre, and his staff Nancy, RN and Patsy. They are wonderful caring and attentive staff. NO matter the nature of my concern and how busy they were, I was always made to feel like I was important. A very awesome place, and on top of that, they are a Center of Excellence, so after care is a priority for them.
My first impression is that he was direct and to the point. He was upfront about the risks and life changes it will cause. (supplements for life, psychological changes, ect)rnrnUnfortunately I moved from the area about 3 months after the surgery so I could not participate in any after care. I actually lived to far from the area initially to participate anyway. Also, I could not find a surgeon where I moved who would agree to see me since I had already had the surgery. So.. I had absolutely NO follow up care or support group possibilities for me.rnrnDr. De La Torre, however, was very diligent while I was in the hospital and I am thrilled with the result of the Lap. surgery.
I met Dr. de la Torre at my pre-op class. He came in and talked to us a little bit. He is a very confident surgeon, which I think is a good thing. I have heard others say that he was bragging on himself or blowing his own horn, but he has accomplished so much & it made me feel more comfortable knowing how much he has accomplished in his carreer. I feel totally comfortable having this surgery knowing that he will be doing it. No Doubts whatsoever.
I first met Dr. De La Torre on 7/25/08 in a class in Columbia,MO He seemed to be a very nice and funny man,but at the same time he is very serious about these surgeries and he really emphasizes the risks, what you have to do before/after surgery, aftercare and what to expect. He told us step by step what to expect the day of surgery and if he have any questions or problems, NOT to hesitate to call his office. That is what he is there for. I will let you know more after the surgery.
