Simply put, Big D saved my life and I am forever grateful. I had the RNY in December '08 and have lost about 170 and feel wonderful and have realized some of my dreams and will continue to do so.
This man is by far the best at what he does in my opinion. He and his staff ensure that you are well educated prior to surgery and after. They know that this is a journey for us and not a one stop process to becoming our new selves.
Please, if you have any questions, contact me and I'll be more than happy to answer them.

I started seeing this doctor last week, and although I appreciated his professional skills as a physician, I was puzzled by his bedside manner. A few days after he performed a surgery on me, I called his on-call service because I had an allergic reaction to the substance that was used to prep me, and my wounds reopened 20 min prior to my call. (I'm sure this is common, though it had never happened to me before). When the operator returned my call and connected us, the doctor sounded exasperated, exclaiming "Why are you calling me? It's 8'o clock at night...what do you want me to do?! I don't know what you want me to do. I'm not going to call anything in for you. You should've called during the day! I'm not going to repeat myself." When he paused, I asked him if there was perhaps an ointment I could buy at the pharmacy to help with my allergic reaction. He told me to buy Benadryl, and to make an appointment to see him the next day. But I decided to see another physician at the clinic.
On another note, I had a great experience with Dr. Primomo at the Davis Clinic when he performed my EGD before my surgery, and a good experience during my follow-up appointment with Dr. Garth Davis. They were both warm, patient with my health concerns, as well as informative and helpful. The staff, everyone from the receptionists to the surgery scheduling staff is pleasant, efficient, professional, very kind, and more than accommodating. The office staff was wonderful, and completely redeemed my experience. I cannot make enough positive statements about them.

I love this man!! I went to him with a glowing referral from my cousin who has known him professionaly for over 30 years. She swears that he is an artist in surgery. She has assisted him many times in the OR and thought if I were going to have WLS I should go to Houston to see Dr. Robert Davis. I took her advice and am so very glad that I did. Dr. Davis has had many years of doing regular surgery, so I felt that by him being ready for any problems that may arise I would be in safe hands. AND I WAS. I had a Molina Band put on many years(28)ago, and Dr. Davis has done many revisions from these horrible things. Mine was a little more complicated because it had been on so long. My surgery took a little longer than expected(over 5 hours)because the band had almost punctured through my stomach and had grown into my liver. Here I am 2 months out from surgery and have lost 71 pounds feeling so much better than I have in so long.
Dr. Davis does expect you to keep all of your follow up appointments, because they are part of your commitment to him and yourself. It is a part of making sure you stay healthy and keep losing weight. Needless to say I would highly recommend him to anyone!!! He has a wonderful smile, very caring eyes and very talented hands. I feel he saved my life, and I'm not just talking about the weight loss, I also mean getting the other band out of me. No telling how long before it had penetrated my stomach and I would have been at the mercy of some Dr. in the emergency room and not the capable hands of Dr. Robert.
I can't say enough about how grateful I am to him and his skill. I live in San Antonio and had seen 2 other surgeons here before my appointment with Dr. Robert and after meeting him I knew I was were I was supposed to be. It is worth the drive to Houston!!

I had a great first impression of Dr. Robert Davis. He is very knowledgable in his field and he is also a successful general surgeon so I felt confident that he would be able to handle anything that could possibly happen during my surgery. His office staff is very good at what they do, they are patient and accomodating. My only, for lack of a better word, "complaint" is that he's so busy. He only rounded on me once in the hospital. I also was not made aware before my surgery that he would have a fellow. I should have assumed that he would since I work in another OR at the same hospital but no one told me. I'm glad he did, though, since the fellow rounded on me everyday! And he was very good, as well. I know he'll be a great dr./surgeon when he finishes his fellowship next year. Dr. Davis emphasizes participation in groups before and after surgery, he is VERY careful to discuss all aspects of your procedure, including any risks, complications, expectations, etc. He is a brilliant surgeon, he has a "special" bedside manner, if you "get" him he's wickedly funny. Some people may not understand his sense of humor, but I rival him, so it was a good match.

So I never knew he was famous for TLC's Big Medicine but he was my choice as he operates under a Centers of Excellence Model. The dedication of his entire office team as well as his teams on the surgical floor were top notch - and just what I would want for such an important decision in my life. I highly recommend him because his approach is very black & white - clear decisive answers and he sets his expectations!!!
Dr. Robert Davis is such a sweet man! He took my by the hand, looked me in the eyes and told me we would get to my goal!! He didn't hold back, he told me how it was and I trust him so much for not skirting around hard to talk about topics. The office staff is amazing!!! My first impression was my correct impression, he is wonderful!! Aftercare is a HUGE deal to him. I was well prepared going into the surgery AND coming out. I rate him 10 out of 10!! I had seen a couple other surgeons and none compare to this man's compassion and bedside manner. I think both his surgical competence and bedside manner are amazing. He really does care about his patients!!!

Alright, I had been to another Surgeon so I knew basically what was involved.
Office staff seems pleasent enough.
He made assumptions about me. From all I have read here every one love him. I just must strike him in an odd way.
After my procedure I went back twice. The third time the system was down, the ladies asked me if I could call later. I called back 3 time and wasn't able to make an appointment due to one problem or another in the office. I finally left a message asking that they contact me when it was possible to schedule apointments. That was over a year and a half ago
~~~~~~
I gained most of my weight back after a year. I went back to m Dr, he insisted that I must be eating all the time. I can't eat more than a sandwich over the course of a whole day.
We are quite impressed with the Davis Clinic in Houston. We live in Austin but wanted to use Dr. Robert Davis for our WLS.
He is a very caring doctor with a wicked sense of humor. I felt incredibly comfortable with him and his staff, all of whom are cheerful and confident in their roles to provide the necessary services for us.
Post Op Comments
Pre-op: Dr. Davis and the pre-op nurses and anesthesiologist were great and very helpful in reducing my anxiety. They had me laughing until they put me to sleep. Post-op was where the problems began and turned into a nightmare for me.
I felt that Dr. R. Davis should have been a little more attentive during my stay there.
I did not see any doctor for 48 hours. If the nurses had been more competent they would have discovered within a few hours of surgery that my right lung had collapsed. Instead 12 hours after surgery I had to continually complain that I could not breathe before someone got it together and listened to my lungs. They paged the doctor at that point. He didn't show up until 24 hours later. My room turned into a sauna due to A/C problems. My husband had to go purchase a small fan to give me any small amount of comfort. After asking repeatedly for a maintenance person (for 1.5 days) the room would wildly fluctuate between hot and cold. They would not reassign me to a different room. The night shift was the most incompetent of the group. I will not use Memorial Hermann Hospital if I can avoid it in the future. I initially requested Houston Methodist but seems the Davis Clinic is no longer using them so I was forced to use Hermann. My stay was not comfortable nor did I feel that I had the best of care while I was there. It was not the positive experience that I was hoping for when I agreed to use Memorial Hermann hospital.
