'I have a lot to be thankful for. I had prayed and meditated on having this surgery for years before I took a step to begin the process. My prayer had always been to place me in the most capable hands possible in all aspects of the surgery. I met Dr. Mailapur the Tuesday before Thanksgiving in 2004 at one of informational seminars he conducts. At that time my insurer BC/BS was putting a freeze on gastric bypass surgeries to review the pros and cons of the surgery. There was little information on what BC/BS would conclude. I was told all of this after the seminar by members of Dr. Mailapur's staff. I was not disuaded in any way in the matter of pursuing the surgery or who would be performing the surgery after the seminar. Upon completing the packet of information I had received at the seminar
'My surgeon Dr. Mailapur and his staff were very helpful in the full process of my surgery. I know it says not to say all good things but honestly I have nothing negative to report. They were all a great resource in any questions or doubts that I had and are still there for me. Dr. Mailapur was very specific in what he wanted from me and I was as well from him. I have been very compliant in what was asked of me and I believe that is what has helped me the most post surgery. Dr. Mailapur addressed all risks in relation to the surgery and I would have to rate him as excellent in my book and my experience with him. He was surgically competent and has an execellent bedside manner. To this day I can call or visit his office
I attended his seminar several months before I had the surgery and he explained and showed films of the surgery and what I should expect.
My surgery was done on March 29th, 2006. I
have found him to be very professional and caring. I have had no problems with the surgery so far, and I am losing ~2-3 pounds per week !! The office staff was great working with the insurance company, since my coverage is with Blue Cross of Minnesota. I have been on a "strict" diet so far since I am not up to the four week period yet, but I am not hungry!! I would recommend Dr. Mailapur to anyone who is considering weight loss surgery.
Dr. Mailapur was the greatest doctor that I have ever used. He was very informative and considerate of my and my families feelings and concerns. I had some complications after surgery that are very rare and Dr. Mailapur was by my sde the entire way. I hadthe surgery around 1 month ago and have lost 42 lbs. and am doing great. I would recommend him to anuone that I meet in need of a gastro-bypass surgeon.
I first met Dr. Mailapur at his weight loss seminar, where he explained in detail all aspects of the RNY surgery. I was impressed with his knowlege and his willingness to answer all questions. He even talked personally to some people. I met some of his office staff at the same seminar. I also made many calls to the office through the process. The office staff was always kind and helpful. They always stressed that no question was silly and to always feel free to call. Future patients should know that Dr. Mailapur takes great care to meet each persons needs. He is professional but at the same time has a wonderful bedside manner. I always felt better after he visited in the hospital. Even though I was in pain, I had more confidence in my decision. Dr. Mailapur has an excellent aftercare program. He is very specific and makes sure you know what you should be doing post op. I would definately recommend Dr. Mailapur. I am very satisfied with the care I received.
March 8th 2005 I went to Dr. Mailapur's seminar. He was very professional, explained everything very well, had slide show to show you exactly how everything will work. His office staff was there to weight you & messure your height and gave hand outs w/paperwork. Sonya his nurse has also had the wls, this makes me feel very good to know someone in the office has been through it. I had my consultation, his office is very nice, my husband went with me to my appt.We met with Karen the nutritionist, she was very helpful in explaining the diet & the vitamin reg. that will be required.Dr. Mailapur went to great detail to explain everything to me & my husband, he did a what i felt was a full examination.I have a genetic blood disorder& the next day I went to my blood specialist to get clearance from him, & he said Dr. Mailapur had already called him. I really feel like he is on top of things and is concerned for me personally.I work at the hospital & every time i see Dr. Mailapur he is very friendly and takes the time to say hello & ask how you are doing.
I broke my leg/foot/ankle 4 days before my surgery was scheduled & during recouperation i got nervous about the surgery & cancelled. Dr. Mailapur was very understanding, He told me"Its your body & its your decision,if you have any questions feel free to call me".This made me feel very good about him. After more research & some support group meetings, i know the original trust that i had in him is still there, and i trust myself to make the changes i will have to make, so i have decided to continue my journey with Dr. Mailapur.
