DR.MAILAPUR WAS GREAT FROM THE FIRST TIME I MET HIM I WENT TO THE SEMINAR THAT HE CONDUCTED AND IT CHANGED MY WHOLE OUTLOOK ON THE SURGERY I HAD BEEN LOOKING INTO IT FOR 2 YEARS HE WAS THERE FROM THAT NIGHT AND HE IS STILL BY MY SIDE TODAY ALL QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED AND ANY CONCERNS THAT I HAD WAS MEET BY HIM, NOT ONLY HIM BUT THE OFFICE STAFF IS ALSO GREAT THEY ARE ALL THERE FOR QUESTIONS ANY TIME OF THE DAY. IF I HAD IT TO DO ALL OVER AGAIN I WOULD PICK HIM AGAIN HE IS THE ONLY DR THAT I HAVE EVER HAD TO COME IN THE ROOM WITH YOU AND PULL UP A CHAIR AND SIT AND TALK TO YOU ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE AND IS THERE BY YOUR SIDE. AFTER THE SURGERY YOU SEE HIM OFTEN AND FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE HE DOES NOT JUST GET HIS MONEY AND THROW YOU TO THE CURVE. IF I HAD TO RATE HIM ON A SCALE FORM ONE TO TEN HE WOULD SURELY BE A TEN PLUS HES WONDERFUL.
On May 11, 2005 Dr. Mailapur changed my life. I first met Dr. Mailapur at a weight loss seminar that he and his staff was giving on January 26, 2005. Dr. Mailapur's presentation was informative and interesting. He explained the whole procedure and showed a film about Gastric Bypass. After this, the staff gave out paper work and asked us to fill it out, so I took the paper work home and then mailed it back in. About a week later Dr. Mailapur office called me back with an appointment for February the 8th. I went to see Dr. Mailapur. We talked and I was examined. He took a lot of time with me to make sure that I understood everything about Gastric Bypass. I was really impressed by Dr. Mailapur and I knew right then, that I wanted him to be my surgeon. I had to lose a few more pounds before the surgery. His nurses were wonderful to me and they helped me with a low calorie eating plan to lose the extra pounds before the surgery.
I had my surgery on May 11, 2005. While I was in the hospital for 3 days Dr. Mailapur came by to check on me at least 3 times a day. I highy recommend Dr. Mailapur to anyone who is thinking about having Gastric Bypass surgery. I do believe that I was given a second chance to live a healthier life and that Dr. Mailapur was given the gift to help me. I have a beautiful 18 month granddaughter named katherine that I now have the energy to play with. It has been almost 3 months since my surgery and I have already lost 70 pounds and still losing. I ask that you pick Dr. Mailapur for your surgeon. He and his staff are awesome.

I started research about two years before I was sure about having Gastric Bypass. I attended the information conference in February 2005. After hearing Dr. Mailapur speak that night, I knew that I found the right surgeon. The first office visit, my husband and I were very pleased with Dr. Mailapur and his staff. He is very straight forward and expressive with what the procedure consists of, the risks involved, and what is expected of his patient. Dr. Mailapur was open to questions and free with answers. On March 11th I had my surgery. I came through surgery without any complications. During my hospital stay at Huntsville Hospital I was very pleased with the care I was given from the nurses, techs, and Environmental employees. Dr. Mailapur made several visits a day; he also kept my husband informed giving contact numbers to reach him at any time. It has been three months since my surgery. I still have nothing but praise for Dr. Mailapur and his staff. During my follow up visits I am not rushed out the door. His office has monthly meetings for patients to discuss their progress and time to interact with other patients. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give Dr. Mailapur a 10+. I would recommend Dr. Mailapur to anyone who is interested in WLS.
I initially met Dr. Mailapur during his mandatory information seminar held at Huntsville Hospital's Corporate University. The information presented was excellent. It was not a sales pitch but an education about the risks/benefits and methods of WLS. I sent my information packet in and had an appointement to see him within a week. From the very beginning, I have found Dr. Mailapur to be a very thorough, skilled and compasionate surgeon. There are no doubts about what he expects from me and what I can expect from him. He along with his wonderful staff fully prepared me for my surgery on 3/21/05. I felt like he was always at the hospital during my stay and was terrific at keeping my wife informed of everything. I am very happy about my choice of Dr. Mailapur as my surgeon. I would do it again and would recommend him to anyone. His staff is terrific and I have always felt that I could call on them at any time. I look forward to continuing my relationship with them as I continue with my weight loss.
He is a wonderful and caring man -- he took time out and examined me -- to see what he would be working with -- didn't make me feel that he was in a hurry, His staff is incredible -- I think because one of them has been on this journey and she understands how important this is to us -- I love them and I am so glad I changed..
I first met Dr. Mailapur following the weight loss seminar that he and his staff were hosting. I was impressed by his compassion and knowledge of obesity related issues. I had actually already been evaluated by another surgeon before Dr. Mailapur came to our area, but after meeting him and his staff members I was certain that he was the right choice for me! He performed my Gastric Bypass surgery on Wednesday, May 18th and I was discharged home this morning. While I was in the hospital he visited me at least twice each day and still called from home at night to check on my progress, which has been excellent! Since my husband was often not present when Dr. Mailapur came to see me, he would always ask "Murphy is not here, should I call him?". I have been a nurse for 17 years, I have never heard a doctor offer to call a missing family member even once, Dr. Mailapur asked each time he visited me, understanding that my husband had to take care of our children as well. I respect Dr. Mailapur and the program he and his staff have worked so hard to promote, it's for people like me! His surgical skill and knowledge are tools to be used by the obese to change their lifestyle permenantly to be succussful, forever! I have known what to expect from the time the surgery date was set, the teaching was started which included preop, postop and long term expectations, and of course, complications. I have all I need to be succussful in weight loss the rest of my life, and I know Dr. Mailapur and his staff will be there for me any day, any time. As I was leaving the hospital today, he told me "if you have something that is bothering you or concerns you, I want you to call me, even if it's 3:00 in the morning, I'd be upset if you did not call me". To me, this says it all, he cares for me, he cares about my concerns and my well being! Thank you, Dr. Mailapur for making a difference not only in my life but also the lives of my loved ones!
I had researched WLS for over 3 years before I came to the decision to have it done. I went for my meeting with Dr. Mailapur with a notepad with 3+ pages of questions for him. I 'interviewed' him thoroughly. I was impressed with his statistics regarding morbidity and mortality and post-op complications. He was careful to impress upon me that this surgery is only a tool and my success with weight loss rested with how compliant I would be with the lifestyle changes. He went over every possible complication I could face. I felt that he gave me the complete knowledge I needed to make an informed decision about whether or not to have the surgery. Being a healthcare professional myself, I asked around about him with the OR staff and the nurses who had taken care of his patients after surgery. I received nothing but glowing reports. Not only does he have excellent technical skills, he is very caring personally.
His office staff have been great. They helped me to get through everything required by my insurance pre-op. Dr. Mailapur was great with my family also. They had some anxiety and he was very patient with them and took the time to answer every question and concern they had. My surgery was on 12/03/04. I came through without a hitch. During my hospital stay, Dr. Mailapur came to see me frequently and called to check on me from home. After my release, they called to check on me at home. During the time between appointments, I get regular calls to check my progress and to see if I have any concerns. I am encouraged to attend support group meetings and I have my exercise program. I know that if I need anything from any member of the office, all I have to do is ask.
I have lost approximately 60 lbs. Since surgery, my hypertension is under control. I have not had to take medicine for high blood pressure since. I have GERD and have been on medicine for 10+ years. I was able to stop taking that medicine 2 months ago and have been fine. I am now able to do my job without being short of breath and having unbearable aches and pains at the end of my shift. I sleep better at night. I would make the same decision again in a heartbeat. I truly believe that WLS has saved my life. I am grateful to Dr. Mailapur every day. I would recommend him as a surgeon (and have frequently) to anyone interested in WLS. I now have family members seeing him and planning surgery. I can't think of a higher compliment than to want him to do surgery on a love one.
Dr. Mailapur is very compassionate about his patients. His is concerned about his patients, throughout the whole procedure from start to finish.
My impression has never changed, I knew from the first seminar that he is the one I wanted to do the surgery.
His staff is very friendly, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure that you comfortable in the program that you are following.
There isn't anything I don't like about him.
That he and his staff are very caring and loyal to you. And want to help you achieve the goal that you have set.
Dr. Mailapur and his staff make sure that you are aware that this is only a tool and that you have to make the effort for the rest. And they give you support with everything and the they are always there if you just want to talk.
Yes, and it is excellent.
Dr. Mailapur goes everything with you, and the family members that are with you. He makes sure that you understand everything before you leave his office.
I would rate Dr. Mailapur "EXCELLENT".
There just aren't words to tell you how much I enjoy being a patient of Dr. Mailapur's. His bedside manner is excellent and he talks to you while you are in the operating before being put to sleep.
I just can't say enough about him and his staff. They really made me feel like family, and still do everytime that I go in to the office. I just want to go all the time and talk, to ask questions about different things, and get new recipes. I would recommend this office to anyone thinking about this procedure. I have never had any pain that required me to have to take pain medicine after they took the iv out. The day that I came home from the hospital I was walking 4/10 a mile and have been walking ever since. You can't walk enough. It helps to get the soreness out, and start the healing process.
The first time I saw Dr. Mailapur in his office I was impressed by his great bedside manor. I work in the hospital and have seen some doctors who really need a lesson in this area, but Dr. Mailapur is a genuine, caring physician.
His staff is wonderful. I have called many times with questions, before and after my surgery, and they have all been considerate and answered my questions or called me back promptly if they were busy at the time I called.
Dr. Mailapur places a lot of importance on aftercare. He insists that you follow the dietary restrictions, get in exercise, take your supplements, and make sure you call if you have any questions.
They have recently started a support program for potential and postop patients, unfortunately due to my schedule I have been unable to attend so I am not sure how that is going, but I will be trying to get to one soon.
I would rate Dr. Mailapur as a 10 out of 10. He genuinely cares about his patients and their progress and he is not afraid to tell you if your doing something that is not good for you. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great. He had no problem telling me that I need to use my spyrometer constantly and that the spikes in my temp told him I was not doing it like I should.
If I had it to do all over again, I would again choose Dr. Mailapur.
