6/26/2.....I have been researching this surgery for a few weeks and decided to call a couple of local doctors. I obtained the names from this site plus was also referred to them by people who work in the medical field. My first call was to Dr. Elmer Valin. I was told that there was a 1 year wait before I could get an appointment. I hung up and called Dr. Randolph Reinhold's office. His office had an 8 month wait. I asked to be put on the waiting list. In approximately 8 months they will send me paperwork. I am to fill this out and get it back to them. Once they receive the paperwork back then they would call me for an appointment. I asked what to do if I couldn't wait 8 months and was advised to have my doctor call to see if I could get in earlier.
7/2/2....Saw my doctor, he was to call Dr. Reinhold's office. I also spoke to someone who had the surgery.
7/9/2.....Saw my doctor again. He called Dr. Reinhold's office while I was there and told me that Doctor Reinhold would see me in 2 months.
7/10/2.....Called Dr. Reinhold's office and was told at first that she had my information up and he would see me in several months. I told her that he told my doctor it would be 2 months. I asked her what the next step was and she told me she would be sending out paperwork. Once they get it back, she would call me to make an appointment. I had to push to get her to tell me when she would mail it out. At first she said by the end of the month and then she said when she get's a chance, may be before the end of the month. I understand they are very busy, but I feel as if I am suffocating in fat. With my family history, I need to get this done ASAP.

Dr. Reinhold is very honest and tell it like it is. He is also very kind and sensitive but very very busy. I spend much more time with his assistant, Heather. She is absolutly wonderful. Dr. Reinhold is obviously a gifted surgeon and I recommend him highly. It will take quite a while to get an appointment and a date for surgery and you must finish all his pre-op steps before you are approved but they are accomidating. Just don't cancel an appointment unless you are willing to wait longer for a date. His aftercare is good so far but you only see Dr. Reinhold for a few minutes. He is extremely busy.

My 1st impression of Dr. Reinhold was he was very confident of himself and had great bed side manners
I go to the clinic and see i belive his asst Dr.Sterling.The clinic is wonderful. They are very good.
Dr.Reinhold and his staff at the clinic told me everything. They did not keep anything from me.
I would rate Dr Reinhold a perfect 10.

Dr Randolph Reinhold was my surgeon. I found him to be very straight forward
and direct. All aspects of my operation were
explained in terms I could understand. After the
operation I had some unexpected complations
(twisted colon and bleeding). Dr. Reinhold was in my room to see me at least
3 times a day in addition to members of his
staff who were in and out all day long. I would
recommend Dr. Reinhold to anyone who is thinking
about having the surgery, however be prepared to wait for
a surgery date because of the vast volume of patients.

When I first met Dr. Reinhold I thought he was a little cold. A sense of humor he did not seem to have. After I've seen him a few times I don't think he belly-laughs, but I have gotten him to smile. His assistant is a woman name Terry who is wonderful. She walks you through everything. To me, Dr. Reinhold stresses the before procedures more than the after. I don't know about other surgeons but there are a list of things you have to do before he will even set up a 2nd appointment with you. You have to meet with a phychologist, meet with a nutritionist, attend a pre/post op support group and diet into ketosis. After doing this, you get your second appointment where the insurance will be addressed. I believe the surgical competence is greater than the bedside manner - but I do appreciate a chuckle here and there.

Not pushy - wants you to decide if the surgery is right for you. He seemed very concerned for me and his assistant is great. He goes over everything involved in the surgery & you have to do certain things before he will even set up an appointment for surgery. One is to see a nutritionist, one is to see a couselor to see if you are a likely candidate for this surgery or if you may need some further couseling before you partake upon the sugery journey and you must do a diet which causes ketones to appear by drinking only water, broth, I can't remember it all but it was to get rid of the fat so your body burns it which causes ketones to appear in your urine. He did explain everything and also I think if someone is to have a sugery like this you must obtain all the info you can to make this decision. This is a life change not just an overnight thing.

first impression-warm and caring
first impressions ARE lasting, mine just got stronger
ofice staff is also great. very helpful and informative. great resource also.
there isn't much not to like. he can be quick so you have to get out your questions while you have him! i find it best to bring in a list of questions on paper. that way i don't forget.
ask the questions you want answered up front.
aftercare is important. i have had three scheduled visits since i got out of the hospital and a couple of follow-up phone calls. also there is a monthly support/seminar for all pre/post-op patients. the doctor is there, a nurse from the floor where you go, the nutrionist and psychotherepist. all are available for general questions and private personal questions. and they pick up the cost of the parking garage!
yes mentioned above.
very open discussion about the risks of surgery, but he takes no chances. a lot of patients (i did not) go to icu for the first night just as a precaution if they do not meet certain recovery room goals.
he keeps everyone on a breathing machine, an ng tube (up the nose and down the throat) and catheter. with out question-everyone is treated the same. i could have done with out some of that and been ok, but as i said he takes no chances.
i would rate him next to God.
both surgical competence and bedside manner were/are excellent.
the only negative part of the experience so far was hospital care. there wasn't a lot. a couple of the nurses were not very sympathetic, nor were they willing to help much. for that reason alone i was glad that i was only in the hospital for 3 days. i had expected a longer stay.
