Philip Fischer Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

My surgeon was very professional and personal. I think in order to feel comfortable with you surgeon you must have a balance of both.He explained everything to me and then told me my job to make this successful as well as what his job was and last but not least he said \"God will have to heal you\".I thought that was very amazing that he acknowledged that I would need God. Most doctors like to take credit.The only thing now is he is no longer performing wls. In the state of Alabama a large portion of insurance policies have an exclusion for wls. It is not uncermountable but it is very hard to get most policies to pay in the state of Alabama, therefore Dr. Fischer is no longer performing the surgeryrnrnrn rnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrn.

Dr. Fischer is the most passionate, kind and caring doctor I have ever come across. He believes in helping WLS patients throughout their journey from beginning to end. I knew the day I met him at the first seminar I attended, that he was the doctor for me. He always was patient and answered all my questions as well as my husband's questions. Dr. Fischer understands the reasons so many persons are obese and he understands why they need the chance and ability to have this surgery. I recommend him to anyone who is searching for that special doctor who will stand beside them and nurture them throughout their lives.

Dr. Fischer is a great doctor and a great person. He is so nice and caring. He is what a good doctor should be. He covers everything about before the surgery, during the surgery and after the surgery. He listen to your questions and answers them. He takes time to talk with you and not in a hurry. I had done alot of research before going to him and i have never heard anything bad about him. Everthing i have heard about him was all good. He makes you feel comfortable and easy to talk too. His nurse Teresa is also a wonderful person. She also takes time for you and is always smiling.

I had my surgery April 11 2005 and i was in great hands. He made me feel so relaxed and not scared. I totally trust Dr. Fischer. He is excellent. He has gave me another chance at life. He is there always to answer any questions. He is a very caring doctor. He has you taking thiamin vitamins where most doctors dont and thats for your protection for the future. I just feel like he is part of my family.

I have only met Dr. Fischer twice as of 4/5/05. The first time that I met him was at an orientation on gastric bypass surgery.I was impressed that the orientation was a requirement to his possible future patients.I'm sure that its depth of detailed information helps his office to cull some candidates of surgery. The orientation was very helpful in understanding not only the surgery, but the requirements of everyone that is involved before & after the procedure. Dr. Fischer was not the only speaker. There was a total of four. They each represented one of the required phases of lap-surgery. We recieved a great deal of information that was given verbally, w/a visual powerpoint, & on paper--all within an enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere. I later met Dr. Fischer on the second occasion at my initial office consultation. He is a young, soft-spoken man. He was very clear, polite & direct in his exam & in answering my questions.His office contacted me later the same day to verify some information that I'd given them. His staff was extremely cordial & encouraging. I look forward to beginning my pre-op tests.

He was very thorough and made sure that I understood everything about the procedure. My impression of him hasn't changed since surgery. He took a lot of time, and was never in a hurry when he was with me. His office staff was very good and quick to respond to any question. I can't think of anything that I dislike about Dr. Fischer. He provided me with the best care any surgeon could possibly offer. He stays on top of the after care issues, and reviews with me the things that I am doing. Dr. Fischer's surgically competent, and has a great bedside manner.

Dr. Fischer is absolutely fantastic. I feel completely at ease with him. He has a very generous nature and a giving heart and I trust him completely. There are surgeons much closer to home but I wanted Dr. Fischer to do my surgery. So, it is off to Birmingham I go. My impression of him changes everytime I see him, I feel more confident that he is the doctor that will help me through the most difficult time of my life. There is absolutely nothing that I dislike about Dr. Fischer. Be prepared, because Dr. Fischer and his staff will educate you with every aspect of this surgery and what life altering changes you will have to make in order for this surgery to be successful. Dr. Fischer believes that you must have the support of family and recommends that you be part of a support group. Risk are discussed with you at your first seminar and your final pre-op visit. He pulls no punches as to the risk to both you and your family. Discussing the risk and the benefits of the surgery with your family will enable them to help support you and make them feel a little more at ease about the surgery. I don't believe in rating a doctor. But if I did, he would top the charts... I will let everyone know about his competence and bedside manner after my surgery.

He was very thorough and caring. I wouldnt be under the knife with anyone else. He was always consistent with all his answers and any information given. His entire staff was very patient and professional. They always made me feel like I was a friend and not a patient. There was absolutely nothing that I didn't like. Future patients should know that he cares more about them than he does the paycheck. He would never do anything that would jeopordize your health and well being. He wants to make sure that you are educated with the pro's and con's of the surgery so that you will be successful in your weight loss. He does so by having you take the nutritional classes pre and post op in addition to support group 2 times a month. I would definately rate Dr. Fischer on a scale of 10, an 11. I haven't had the surgery yet (2 weeks yeah!) but I am anticipating that he will perform 110% in both surgical competence and bedside manner. I can't wait until I am another success story for the GREAT Dr. Fischer!

Dr. Fischer was so warm and caring. He was very thorough, explaining everything to a T. His nurse Theresa is one of the nicest nurses that I have ever met. SHe has always had a smile on her face and will go out of her way to help. There is nothing about Dr. Fischer or his staff that I did not like and I am sometimes very difficult to deal with. He went to great lengths to tell you everything you should and should not do before, during and after surgery. Overall if I had to choose a surgeon rather than be referred I still would choose Dr. Fischer. In my opinion my surgery was a great success and to this point I have nothing negative to say.

Dr. Fischer is such a sweet person and I was very comfortable around him and his nurse, Teresa. The both have explained everything in detail. My impression of Dr. Fischer has not changed from my first visit. Dr. Fischer and his nurse Teresa are very thorough, professional and very attentive to all your needs. Dr. Fischer will have you see a Dietician to discuss the foods you should eat before, during and after surgery, Physical Therapist to discuss exercise and walking and you will complete a seminar at Norwood Clinic to educate you on the importance of the surgery and your health. I rate Dr. Fischer a "10+".

My surgeon Was Dr. Philip Fischer at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham, AL. I had been to 2 other seminars at another Birmingham hospital and had actually made my appt. with another dr. I had a customer come into my work and she was 4 days post-op and was doing great. She told me about Dr. Fischer and that I should call him. I called and his seminar was the very next day and they had an appt. available the next week. I went to the seminar and liked everyone and the hospital. I went to my appt. and Dr. Fischer was very knowledgable and his nurse, Teresa, is great. Dr. Fischer felt I would be a great candidate for the surgery, as did my own primary care dr. Dr. Fischer talked about what to do before and after surgery. I feel Dr. Fischer has great surgical competence as well as bedside manner.
