Peter Liao Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Liao is a young guy 30-45 in there somewhere, very personable and approachable. He has just opened a bariatric weight loss center at Union Memorial, (used to be at University of Md). He tried very hard at the first consult to talk me out of surgery, gave me the statistics and stressed this is a tool not a cure, he does a great job addressing the risks of this surgery.I like him and feel comfortable asking him questions. The office staff is friendly and helpful,aftercare and support group meetings are structured. Kate his assistant and NP is extremely helpful and supportive very easy to talk to as well.They handled the insurance company for me and kept me well informed. The center is organized and offers every service needed by the bariatric patient, Union Memorial has been excellent during every visit they are patient friendly and they really do care.

Dr. Liao has left the hospital where I had my intial first meeting with him. I've tried to get info. from his old office staff but they so far have not been forthcoming.
He seemed to be very caring but I was left directionless and have wasted six months trying to figure out what my next move should be.
In the mean time the forty lbs. I had lost due to an illnes have returned with a vengeance, along with lower extremity swelling, difficulty breathing, sleeping, working, etc.
It may not be his fault so I would like to know what has happened, and where he has gone.
Otherwise can anyone suggest another good and decent surgeon to hook up with?

My first impression of Dr. Liao was........wow.........what a warm caring individual. As we began talking through the consult I felt very comfortable with him and was very at ease with his knowledge and professionalism. I couldn't imagine having any negative reservations about meeting and talking with him because the staff up until this point have been very kind, courteous and attentive to my needs (like asking if I would like to have a earlier appt). At this point there is nothing that I don't find unappealing about Dr. Liao. Everyone has there own opinion of doctors, however if you are looking for an upfront individual, Dr. Liao is the one. Dr. Liao explained the importance of all aspects of care starting from the minute of my intial consultation. I think he has a high expectation for our doctor/patient relationship.........and that is just great. After surgery Dr. Liao is very meticulous about keeping an aftercare regimen to ensure effectiveness of the surgery and to maintain sound overall health. Dr. Liao shows a deep concern for minimizing the risk factor and being forthcoming with all of the negative aspects of surgery. I think it is most important to have a competent physician, however if you are looking for both........have a consultation with Dr. Liao....I am sure you will be reassured either way.

The moment I met Dr.Peter Liao, I knew he would be my doctor. Dr. Liao was very caring with a great attitude. He didn't sugar coat anything I asked, he gave me honest professional answers. Dr. Liao and his team at GBMC has made be feel comfortable and I am looking forward to my surgery date (7/20/09) and seeing the results from a Great Surgeon! I am so confident that Dr. Liao is the best surgeon and I haven't even had surgery yet!!
