Dr. Liao performed my surgery three years ago and we are so confident in his abilities and professionalism that my wife has elected to have him perform surgery on her at Greater Baltimore Medical Center where the rate of mortality and complications is well below the national average.rn His staff, especially his PN Kate, cares not only about their business but also about the individual. They made the whole process easy and less disconcerting, my apprehensions were all addressed. Thanks Dr. Liao and Nurse Kate. You can give my name to anyone who needs a reference.

My first impression of Dr. Liao, A Calm & cool demeanor, but yet confident with his knowledge of knowing so much about \"Gastric Bypass surgery, which made me comfortable and at ease. He is very professional & organized. During my hospital stay, when he ordered certain things to be done? and \"If\" the hospital staff, didn't comply in a timely fashion he took, matters into his own hands, and got what needed to be done and completed, Done!! I do remember that much. He is a no- non sense type of Doctor. Dr. Liao's weight management staff is Great!! Friendly, organized pretty good, and professional. Two really smart Nurse Practitoner's Aretha & Kate. The Nutritionist, Anne is wonderful too!! even down to the greeting staff, in the weight management ctr. were friendly & nice, during my many office visits. I was extremely \"Blessed\" to have a Excellent weight management team, who is so knowlegable in bariatrics. What did I like least about Dr. Liao? At times he seems too rushed? What should future patients know about Dr. Liao? That \"he\" is is Good!! at what he does!! Dr. Liao's program does have a good after care program & he emphasize's the importantance of follow up, after \"wls\" The after care program seems to be very structured, although I'm just a little over a month post-op. I have a six week Post-op appt. scheduled. How did he address the risks of surgery?? Clearly & calmly. I would rate Dr. Peter Liao?? \"Cream of the Crop!! His, Bedside manner is a some what serious demeanor & straight to the point, of taking care of business!! Surgical competence? \"Oh He know's his stuff!!\" Did I say that already?? ;-)

One of the best doctor's around and very caring. He also has the best staff. They are friendly, helpful and just all around good people. It took me over 2 years to finally decide to have the surgery, but I think it was because of the staff and the structured care that you get when going to his office that really made me decide to go ahead. Now after 3 months, I feel so much better, I can walk without hurting, I sleep much better, and I'm starting to enjoy life again. I have had a couple of problems only because I tried to eat food that I shouldn't have. Old habits die hard sometimes. But when I follow their directions, I have no problems at all.
They do try to talk you out of the surgery, so you have to make sure you are committed to this. I was positive even though after the surgery, I wondered what in the world was I thinking about. But after that thought I decided that I would work with the operation and lose this weight and feel better and look better for myself. It worked and even though I have thrown up several times it's only because I ate to fast or tried to eat the wrong food.
Give Dr. Liao and his staff a chance. The care you get before and after is the best.

My first impression of Dr. Liao was that he was nice and had a wonderful smile. My impression of him did change because I found him to be more than nice because he cares genuinely for his patients. His office and staff are just as wonderful and have been very helpful. There wasn't a least thing that I liked about him because I appreciated his realness.
He strongly emphasized aftercare because he wants his patients to succeed not fail. Yes he does have a structured aftercare program that I couldn't get to for insurance and various other reasons.
Dr. Liao addressed the many pros and few cons of the having the surgery and I appreciated him for that. I would give him a top 10 because he truly cares for his patients.
I think a doctor should have surgical competence and wonderful beside manners because after surgery is when most people feel like their life is going to change forever.
Dr. Liao, I must say is the greatest doctor in the world. His staff were the best and they all treated me with so much respect I couldn't believe it. I am so happy I chose this team. I would recommend him to anyone.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr Liao and the entire weight management staff at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. (NO - they did not pay me to say this). When I talk to others in the ObesityHelp chat room I am astonded that they often do not know very important things about their surgery and their bodies. There are no bad or stupid questions at UM and Dr Liao will go into as much detail as we want. The other thing I loved about the program was that no matter what you did they never made me feel bad about myself. If I ate the wrong thing during the 6 months of Dr-supervised dieting it was written off and today is another day. Dr Liao also made us feel that he wanted us to call him if there was ANYTHING we had concerns about after surgery. He even told one gal that she should have taken an ambulance back to the hospital when she was unable to get a ride and was throwing up. Dr Liao made us all to feel we were the most important patient he had.... I HIGHLY recommend this program to anyone who wants the sugery done right AND the support system which I needed more than I ever thought I would

I met Dr. Liao recently and liked him immediately. He was very personalble, honest and easy to talk with. I was originally scheduled to have surgery with Dr. David vonRueden at GBMC on August 4, 2005. Although I have met many patients who love Dr .vonRueden, I found him to be somewhat aloft or offstandish and was very dissapointed that he did not think enough of me as a patient to address issues with me directly. Dr. Liao I have found appears to be very thorough. He requested that I have an endoscopy and another sleep study before my surgery. I am scheduled for surgery on December 14, 2005. I don't care if this is right before Christmas. As a matter of fact this might be the best time to face all of the temptations. Dr. Liao is at Union Memorial Hospital and his entire staff seems to be much more honest and helpful than my previous experience with those at GBMC.

I met Doctor Liao a year ago on 2/10/04 a day before I was to have gbs under the care of another surgeon.
My lung doctor did not feel comfortable with my having surgery at that time and asked me to get a second opinion and told me about a doctor (Liao) that was setting up gbs practice in the same hospital where my lung doctor and my pcp already practiced.
I trust my lung doctor and I took his advice.
Dr. Liao is a very gentle person but firm in explaining the surgery and in presenting the program I knew there was a lot of thought put into the program.
I postponed having surgery but did not commit to Dr. Liao's program, my head was spinning having to cancel with another surgeon.
I finally decided to give Dr. Liao's program a try on 10/14/04 after waiting for the doctor I had been seeing since 10/03, I did not want to get to know another doctor or staff because I had put so much into the first doctor's program and I needed to be sure that leaving was in my best interest. The first surgeon operated at a hospital that no longer wanted to offer gbs due to his pending and possibly future litigations (law suits}. The first surgeon asked his patients including me to wait while he relocated to another hospital 2 weeks at the most. The wait went from the end of June til December 04 for him to operate again but by then I had decided to try other options.
I saw a second doctor who had performed surgery on my neice 9/04 he knew of the first surgeon's problems and was doing surgery on those waiting patients immediately.
I went to him on the advisment of my neice thinking finally I will get a date for surgery, NOT!
When I saw the surgeon he told me he needed to be sure of my committment and he would not take me on as a patient until I proved I was serious about weight loss and recommended I see his nutritionist so that I could lose some weight because I have severe asthma,I was told I was a high risk person having a high risk surgery which I knew and thought well everyone having gbs is high risk which is the reason to consider this in the first place what surgeon 2 said made sense in regard to committment but I decided to try the program of Dr. Liao's since I could not get my surgery as fast as I thought and the second surgeon , Dr. A I'll call him seemed very put off that I had asthma and was on prednisone, he might as well have said get out, you are too risky.
I can honestly say what I went through was for a reason because I now know I am where I need to be and I am more happy than I could imagine.
I just had to go around the mulberry bush.
Dr. Liao and the staff are professionals, I have never heard them say one negative word about another surgeon, program or patient. You are advised according to your needs as an individual.
You recieve optimum patient care with some of the best technology.
The explanations of the what, when, why's and how's of surgery are so complete it was very impressive.
I never walked away feeling unsure or uneasy.
Aftercare is more than emphasized and I can't help but feel blessed.
I think I have an advantage in endorsing this program because I have been to several surgeons.
I rate the program exceptional, it goes beyond anything I could have ever expected in regard to surgical competence and personal care, it is taken very seriously.
If one word desribes my overall feelings it would be WOW! There are no perfect surgeon's BUT there are some that come close because of the attention to detail and the patient, you need to experience this to believe.
This is not a paid endorsement (smile).

My first impression of Dr. Liao was that he is very serious about helping people get the help they need whether it be through a comprehensive weight loss program or through surgery. He was easy to talk to and explained things in a way that was easy to understand. Everyone at the Union Memorial Weight Loss Center was courteous and professional and went out of their way to answer questions/concerns. The Center utilizes a long-term whole health approach with long-term follow-up. I highly recommend Dr. Liao and his staff to anyone who is serious about wanting to lose weight.
