MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF MY SURGEON, DR. PETER C. LePORT WAS THAT HE WAS EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE, PROFESSIONAL, COMPETENT AND CARING. MY IMPRESSION HAS ONLY GOTTEN BETTER OVER TIME AS I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER PATIENTS AT THE SUPPORT GROUP AND TO HOSPITAL STAFF AND TECHS DURING MY PRE-OPS. HIS OFFICE STAFF IF ALWAYS HELPFUL AND PROMPT WITH ANY NEEDS OR QUESTIONS I HAVE. I HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH THE UPMOST RESPECT. SOMETHING THAT THE MORBIDLY OBESE PATIENT DOES NOT ALWAYS EXPERIENCE WITH DEALING WITH THOSE IN THE MEDICAL PROFESSION. AT THIS POINT IN MY WLS EXPERIENCE, I CANNOT THINK OF ANYTHING I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT DR. LePORT OR HIS STAFF. FUTURE PATIENTS SHOULD KNOW THAT HE DOES NOT PRESENT WLS AS THE EASY WAY OUT OF THEIR WEIGHT PROBLEM AND EXPECTS THAT ALL OTHER AVENUES OF WEIGHT LOSS BE TRIED FIRST. AFTERCARE IS STRESSED AS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND THERE IS A WELL STRUCTURED PROGRAM THRU "SMART DEMINSIONS". THE RISKS OF SURGERY WERE CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY DISCLOSED IN EASY TO UNDERSTAND LANGUAGE. I RATE DR. LePORT "A+". I VALUE SURGICAL COMPETENCE OVER BEDSIDE MANNER, HOWEVER I FEEL THAT I AM GETTING BOTH WITH THE DOCTOR I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ASSIGNED. I DID NOT CHOOSE DR. LePORT. IN FACT, WHEN MY PCP SUBMITTED MY REFERRAL REQUEST TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY, A DIFFERENT DOCTOR WAS REQUESTED. WHEN THE APPROVAL CAME THROUGH, IT REQUIRED THAT I SEE DR. LePORT INSTEAD. SINCE I NEVER MET THE OTHER DOCTOR, I CANNOT COMPARE. HOWEVER, I DID ATTEND SOME OF THE OTHER SURGEON'S SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS. THE FEEDBACK I AM GETTING FROM THE TWO GROUP MEETINGS DOES PUT DR. LePORT IN THE LEAD.
I was just seen by the office but unfortunately Dr. Chin
was ill himself so the staff was sweet enought to help me with the information
needed and I had to reschedule.
I'm very excited and Aug 15 th I will personally meet Dr. Chin.
I'm tickled pink and pray for the insurance to be approved. I am waiting notice now
on the insurance.
The staff was fantastic and It was a very nice day at both offices.
I understand most everything now and have no fear about the surgery.
Sept. 6
Aug. 31, met Dr. Peter LaPort : The office is always swamped but all were very nice. The doctor was interupted several times but I was impressed it was nurses calling about his present patients in surgery. I was impressed as He was very quick to look after anything they needed. I would much rather have him take the time when I really need him than in the office.
Beings I am aware of most everything involved it wasn't real necessary for me to ask many questions. He seemed very carring, told me of all the risks.
He works with a before and after care called Smart Dementions and they are wonderful.
They have anything you need or would want. A complete staff and support group.
I would rate them all a 10. Dr. Didn't have alot of time with me but there was no reason in my case. I'm VERY confident in him and the staff and PRAISE GOD for the opportunity to feel better once again.
Will give you an update after my PeOp in two days.

I have to say this........ if you ever go to Dr. LaPort and go through Orange
Coast Memorial Hospital in Fountain Valley, you will feel like you are royality.
I've never in my life been treated by absolutely every person so special.
It's wonderful. I left with such peace. From the nurse that explained the what would happen to each preop test I had.
There was not one person that was unpleasant , to xray, plumanary , to blood tests. All absolutely wonderful!
I'm excited and very happy I'm where I am. If you have been unhappy this is the place to go.
They explained everything they could possibly think of. You are in good hands with this guys.
God Bless , Nancy
Dr. Le Port and his staff are extrordinary. This is the first time I went to a doctor's office and didn't feel like I was a freak. Every visit with him was great, he was very personable, and he was honest about every aspect of the surgery. His staff was always available to me, and they have a great support group who is there as I journey down this path to achieve my goals. The group consists of people who had, are going to have, and those who are trying desparately to appeal, along with Dr. Diane LaMont (psycologist),who helps deal with the emtional side of your life that comes with this change. Dr. Le Port is wonderful overall. He has a good bedside manner, but I would say his surgical competence is his best quality.
I haven't met Dr. LePort yet. I will meet him this Monday 7-24.
It's been crazy, I was approved to see him and because of his
schedule (vacation in Aug.) I chose to see his associate Dr. Chin.
So I had my consult with Dr. Chin, liked him alot and was just
waiting for my approval to come back and it did yesterday. (7-20)
I called their group Smart Dimenitions to secure my date and
they told me Dr. Chin had emergency surgery on Wed. and that he
wouldn't be able to do my surgery! So their office asked Dr. LePort
if he would do my surgery and he agreed!!!! My surgery is Aug 2nd
and he leaves for vacation Aug. 4th. Just made it!!!! Update: I met
Dr. LePort. He was very nice and very busy!(Due to his associate's
unexpected surgery). I went for all my pre-op last week and found
out that my surgery was postponed until Dr. LePort returns from
his vacation. Aug. 21 @ 10:00am!! If anyone out there is going in
on that day, let me know.
I met Dr. LePort in B'ham at a seminar and I was very impressed with him.
When I finally flew to Ca. for the surgery I was disappointed with not being able to spend more time with him, but he was very nice.
His office staff were nice and helpful, I was a bit scared being so far away with no family with me. They were very comforting.
I Think he is an extremely good surgeon.
Aftercare was a big issue for my insurance company, with me being from Al. I had to get letters from my GP stating that he would take responsibility for my after care.
I was given a fair amount of information to take home with me and an 800# to call the office anytime.
All the risks were explained very thoroughly with me.
On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate Dr. LePort an 8.
Surgical competence was better, but everything was a little hectic with me being from out of state. I was there a total of 8 days, 3 before surgery and 4 after.
Dr. LePort was very understanding. He answered my
questions completly. He was also very patient
with me and all my questions.
The staff in his office were helpful but they
did seem very busy.
The Smart Dimension staff at the hospital that handle
the pre-op and post-op and all the insurance
stuff was soooo helpful!
Dr. LePorts office has a support group in the
hospital that meets every monday nite.
Dr. LePort explained all the "Pro's and Con's"
of this type of surgery. He also explained to me
that this is a tool not a miracle. I truly
believe he has my best interest at heart.
