I am actually having surgery (pending ins. approval, of course) with an associate of Dr. LePort's, Dr. Ali. Dri. Ali was very nice. When I came for the consult, they weighed me, then a PA came in and took my medical history. When she was done, Dr. Ali came in and discussed the surgery and answered questions. I feel pretty good about him. He just joined the practice in 9/00, but has been a surgeon in the Navy for several years prior. He also has the most lap experience in the group. Not in wls, but in other kinds and I REALLY want this lap if at all possible. Dr. LePort assists him in his surgeries at this point, so I feel I am getting the best of both worlds... The most experienced lap surgeon and the most experienced wls in one surgery!
The staff seemed very nice. The SmartDimentions staff (aftercare program)were great. They seem to have a very nicely structured aftercare program and support group. I'll post more after I have further dealings with them.
He seemed highly qualified with 15 years of
bariatric surgery experience. He also has
a very good success rate. The office staff is
sensitive, yet highly efficient. Aftercare is
emphasized tremendously erring on the more
conservative side. All aftercare info is ex-
plained completetly and put comprehensively
in writing.Risks were discussed at length
and fully prior to surgery which may scare
some people out of going through with it.
Overall my experience was what I expected
and I am just 4 days post-op and at home.
I really can't comment much on bedside
manner because Dr. LePortt's staff handled
most of that. I chose him because of his
talents as a surgeon and his credentials
and not because I was impressed with his
skills as a conversationalist.
Overall I think it went well, but I'm still
recovering.
I actually met with Dr.Ali. Dr. Ali has not had as many surgies as Dr. LePort but there have no been no complaints about him. Dr. LePort will be assising him during my WLS. The office staff was very nice, professional and helpful. Hi told me about the risks of surgery but didn't seem to overly concerned. He mentioned that they take every precaution nesscesary to prevent them. He actually seemed very confident.
I CHOSE TO WAIT AND TALK WITH DR.LePORT MYSELF RATHER THEN GO WITH ANYONE ELSE IN THE OFFICE. I REALLY DID NOT WANT TO DO THE RUSSIAN ROULETTE THING WITH MY GUT CUT. THEY WHERE VERY NICE AND VERY QUICK ON MY FIRST VIST. I THOUGHT THEY WERE JUST THAT NICE AND SPEEDY BECAUSE THEY WERE LOOKING AT ME LIKE A WAS A 265LB CASH COW ABOUT READY TO PAYOUT. BUT AFTER THE VIST WAS OVER I FELT THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HELP ME IN A SINCERE WAY. AS FAR AS THE INSURANCE CO. GOES I HAD TO FIGHT THAT BLOODY BATTLE ON MY OWN. I HAVE MAXICARE OF CA. WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUT THEY HAVE BEEN. FROM THE START A HAAD TO WRITE A LETTLE EXPLAING WHY I FELT THE SURGERY WAS A GOOD IDEA FOR ME... THEN I HAD TO FIGHT WITH THE HERMAN JONES MEDICAL GROUP IN LA PALMA FOR ANOTHER 2 MONTHS. SO ALL IN ALL I HAVE STARTED THIS PATH TO FREEDOM IN JUNE AND NOW I AM FINALY LOOKING AT THAT YELLOW BRICK ROAD. MY HUSBAND IS THE ONE WHO FOUND DR.LePORT ON THE NET FOR ME. I WAS TRYING TO GO DOWN THE L.A. TO HAVE THIS DONE AND THEN HE CHECKED THE NET AND FOUND OUT THERE WERE MANY DR'S THAT DO THIS IN ORANGE COUNTY.
To put it in a nutshell I would travel far to have him as my surgeon. His staff is like a new family. The waiting room is like a mini support group. He sugarcoats nothing and lays it on the line. He makes sure you know this is only a tool and it up to you to make it happen. All the facts are laid out and all the info is given to make it work. He is very concerned with your phisical being and mental. He supports group and is there to lend an ear personally. I am extremely happy and would recommend him and his team to anyone.
Dr. LePort is a wonderful doctor his staff is very heplful and great to work with. I've dealing with LePort about a month now my impression has not changed. I have had some problems after surgery but thats not becasue of him.
Dr. LePort has a very structured pre and post system. They offer great after care programs and support groups.
I would recommend Dr. LePort to anyone lookig for a surgeon.
My first impression of Dr. LePort was that he knew what he was doing. He was very straight forward but nice. I found him to be even better the more I talked with him. His office staff is incredible. Everyone is nice and they all know what they are doing which seems like a simple compliment but it isn't. Throughout my journey to have this surgery I have met a lot of people that didn't know what they were doing. Diane I absolutely the best. She worked so hard to get me approved and get my pre-op testing done. She hadn't worked with this insurance before so there was a learning curve but she got everything done I loved working with her. One thing future patients should know is that Dr. LePort is very busy. I try to bother him as little as possible becuase I realize he is in such demand. If you have questions that the office staff might be able to answer try them first, the turn around will be faster and they are great. Dr. LePort is very careful about explaining that this surgery is a tool not a cure and you must work to take care of the tool. He was very candid about the risks but also noted that if you follow what you are suppose to do the risks are reduced. Overall I rate him as an excellent doctor with surgical competence beyond compare (approximately 1200 surgeries under his belt) and a very compassionate (speling?)bedside manner.
Update 10/14/00
I believe Dr. Le Port saved my life. He is an excellent surgeon, who genuinely cares about his patients. My surgery on Oct 9, 2000 went without a hitch, and surprisingly without much pain...I truly am greatful for this wonderful surgeon, his office staff, and the women at Smart Dimensions...they helped me every step of the way.
Met with Dr. LePort on 9/8/00...his office staff are a great bunch of gals...very friendly. Dr. LePort is a very kind and caring person, I was impressed with him. He went over every detail of the surgery without any sugarcoating..I liked that.
