my impression of dr. williams is he is a nice experienced guy who knows what he is talking about. that was the first impression. the impression changed because he did the procedure and i felt great. his staff at the office is very knowlegeable about everything he does. if you are thinking of dr. williams i advise you to go fourth he has the knowledge and the skill. not just him but the whole staff make sure you stay on top of your aftercare. yes he has a very nice structured after care program.he address the risk of aafter care surgery by coming sitting down and explaining the things that can go wrong and also saying how he will prevent it from happening.dr. williams is the best he dont get a 10 he gets a 100. everything from when i step in till i left was great.
Very calm, direct and to the point, not pushy. Just explains everything and lets you make your decision.
My impression changed after surgery. He has a great bedside manner. Very caring and supportive.
What I like least is that you don't see him on your follow-up visits. Only his nurse pract. Future patients should know that he is an excellent surgeon with a great reputation. His has a great support system set up for pre and post-op. There is a support group with his nutritionist the second Saturday of each month. You can call the office and nutritionist anytime you need to. After you come home, he sends a nursing service and psyical therapy to visit 3 times or longer if needed.
He explains the risks of the surgery in detail. He also explains what can go wrong and what he does to prevent it. He has a great post-op team.
He is extremely competent. He does aproximately 6 surgeries per week.
I just met with Dr. Kurian for the first time on 8/29/03. She was absolutely terrific! She explained all of the various WLS's in full (sometimes using earthy terms) detail. Her friendly demeanor helped put me at ease.
During my interview with her, I could tell that she did not have any predisposition to any particular type of WLS for me. After several probing questions as to my eating and excercising habits, she recommended the LapBand. I was very pleased with this recommendation until she informed me that insurance may not cover this procedure! The alternative being $22,000 out-of-pocket! This was the only "downer" of the day.
A tentative surgery date for late December '03 has been set. Now... for the insurance company battle!
I had my initial consult with Dr. Williams in June, and was throughly impressed with the doctor's compassion and interest in me not just as his patient, but as an obese person in need of his help. It has been a rough 2 years but I had my Lap RNY (proximal) on 11/8/04. I will always grateful to Dr. Williams for providing me with the tool...and the beginning of a new life for me.
The office staff has always been courteous and extremely helpful. The Bariatric team at UPenn are a group of dedicated people all there to help the patients with whatever they are in need of.
The hospital has a monthly WLS support group that meets the second Saturday of the month at the hospital. Many things are discussed and there is a lot of sharing between the pre ops and post ops. There is also an online support group available to all patients of the Upenn Bariatric program.
As far as aftercare, there is the support groups and there is a dietary guideline that the patients adhere to. If any problems arise, we call the office and the problems are taken care of. I am glad to have had my surgery done by Dr. Williams, and I am so glad that I had it done at one of the best hospitals.
I went for my consultation appointment with Dr. Williams and staff on 11/17/04. It was a terrific experience. Everyone was helpful and provided explicit and extensive information regarding multiple pre-op, operative, and post-op topics.
Everyone on the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I were impressed.
All of my information was submitted to Aetna on 12/10/04 and I am anxiously awaiting to hear about approval.
I was pleased when I went to see him and his staff.. they were very friendly and knowledgable.. although it is a long wait for an appt it was worth it.. I actually got lucky and got in earlier. He was the second surgeon I consulted and knew he was the one. He explained in detail everything that would happen and his staff was excellent.. I felt very informed and never worried to call with a concern. It was a very pleasurable experience and have no regrets. The hospital was great also although I did have a few problems with a few of the nurses and having them respond to my call button more than a few times.. I had to take that up with the hospital. I would say that is the only bad experience I had but dont hold that against Dr williams and his practice at all. His staff is absolutley wonderful and made the world of difference with the whole experience...and they still are.
