I have my initial consultation with Dr. Williams on Dec. 6. I have heard several good reports about Him and am hoping to schedule surgery ASAP.rnrnI had my first visit and was very impressed with the entire staff at Dr. Williams's office. I spoke to His clinical nurse and we discussed the many procedures that must be complete before acquiring a surgery date. Then I spoke to the nutritionist about the diet and vitamin supplementation. Both were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and caring. Finally I met Dr. Williams. He is all that I expected. Extremely intelligent and knows His business. He discussed precautions, risks, and benefits of the surgery as they applied to my specific case. At this time I am all go. I am working on the list of preliminary procedures in hope of receiving a surgery date in the very near future. I was 344 at weigh in. I went to the support group meeting on the following Saturday after my appointment and met some interesting and helpful people. Some were pre surgery and others post. Attending the group is a key element to success. This combined with diet, and exercise is in my opinion paramount to success.
Dr. Williams was as impressive as it gets. The man obviously knows his stuff and I was pleased that he actually took the time to go over my file. I find it really annoying to have to repeat the same information over and over again every time a different medical professional walks in. I was relieved that that was not the case here. He was more like I see you have this or that problem so this is how I think we should handle it. Also, DH and I had a lot of questions and I really liked how he handled them. He was straight to the point and never patronizing. Definitely not a jokey-jokey kind of guy, in fact, I think I barely got him to crack a smile, but still he's quite pleasant and polite. His staff was top rate - friendly, thorough and professional from the time I walked in the door up until I scheduled my next appt. I never felt rushed and I didn't have a long wait. First visit grade: A+
I met with Dr. Noel Williams of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. He was very nice and a little funny. I believe he's British. He answered all my questions and was very patient with me. I asked him if this would be the last time I saw him until surgery. He said that I would probably see him around, but unless I requested for him to come in, I wouldn't meet with him again until my pre-op apppointments (2-3 weeks before surgery). During our conversation, he stressed the risks of surgery, the category that I was in (low-medium risk), and the other categories that patients fall into. He drew me pictures and explained most of what would happen immediately afterwards. I haven't had many interactions with him yet, but I would rate him as a 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. I also talked with the Clinical nurse Samatha Warner-Grimsley. She was very nice and gave a lot of information.rnrn1-11-06: After my initial consultation (February), I didn't see Dr. Williams again until 1-2 days after my surgery. He came into check to see how I was. I was very groggy, so he didn't stay that long. I really didn't expected to see the doctor to much because during my initial visit I asked him if I would see him again, he said most likely not until surgery, unless somethings wrong. Nothing went wrong, but I would have like to see him before they put me to sleep before the surgery, but I didn't.

I met with Dr Noel Williams in June of 2006. I can't even begin to say how nice he was. I naturally was very nervous about going to see him and I had a complete list of questions that I wanted to have answers to before I made my final decision to have the surgery. After Dr Williams met with me and explained everything ie. the pros and cons of the surgery he answered every question I had and he was even funny with some of the answers he gave me because honestly some questions I had were rather silly. I have had numerous surgeries and I have dealt with many surgeons, if I were to rate Dr Williams and his office staff on a scale of 1-10 I would give them a 9. I am looking forward to getting my surgery date and getting on with my new life. I will write more once I get my date.
Dr. Noel was very patient. He explained the procedure and risks very well. He also answered all my questions. If there was a negative it is not about him but the office staff - very hurrid... The office wait is also long so please be prepared ~ 3 hrs each visit. I did my research and I know that Dr. Williams is the best in Philadelphia so I don't mind the wait.
I was VERY pleased with the entire program at the Hospital of the University of Pennslyvania (HUP). The pre and post care can not be exceeded by anyone else.rnI spent 6 days in the hospital. A little longer than normal because of a fever. I had 12 nurses during my 6 days and ALL but one was specatular. I am almost 40 and some of these nurses appeared to be about 12 years old in my eyes, but they could not have been more professional and kind and warm and of course well trained. Sadly on my last night, my final nurse, I think, was a relative of Nurse Ratched from Cuckoo's Nest. I think she was trying to be a cold as she could possibly be. Other than that one glitch, my experience pre and post has been unbelievable. Words alone can not describe the quality of care I received.
