Myriam Curet Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
What can I say Dr Curet is great she was very compassionite and just overall great Doctor. I was able to talk with her without embarrasment which is how I have felt in the past with some doctors. Also Dr. Wolfe has been great also. He was very approachable and explained everything so I could understand. She explained everything that she expected of me and all in details of the things to be ready for in the future. The nurse Meg who has gotten some good reviews I'm not feeling the same. We have had just a few conversations and I truly was not impressed I felt as though she was negative to the situations in my life and so to speak bedside manner did not impress me at all. Would have perferred someone else.Dr Curet explained all the risks in detail to me. Overall I havent had my surgery as of today buy I will be on the 7th of February but I really think she is very nice and I am trusting her with my life.

here is what my experiences with my surgeons and staff are. i was very happy to have dr. curyet as my surgeon because she is top in her field and i was very confident and secure knowing she would be my surgeon. i met her in the operating room, but i had been told that i was extremely lucky to have her as my surgeon. i feel that i am lucky that she was my surgeon. the staff was very nice to me. robin and karen and monica were very helpful. i probably drove robin crazy with all my calls. karen had taken anna's position and made things happen for me. i had waited along time for a surgery date and at one point i felt as if i had gotten lost in the system somewhere, so when i went to the pre-op meeting, i spoke with karen after and told her how long i had been waiting and she took the ball and ran. i am so happy that she there. i met with dr. schuster(i am so sorry if i misspelled his name) for my pre-op app't and he took the time to go over everything with me. he made sure i knew all the risks of this type of surgery. he told me all the posibilities that could happen. he made sure all my questions were answered. he was very nice to me and very patient. he made me feel very at ease. i met dr. alami(again, i am sorry if i misspelled his name) the morning of my surgery with dr. schuster and they both were so nice to me and kind. we joked and laughed before going into surgery. i was very happy to have them both there along with dr. curyet. i felt in very competent hands. after my surgery, i saw dr. schuster and dr. alami. i had a two day stay in the hospital and the nurses were very nice. my sister stayed with me in the hospital and they were very nice to her also. the only downside was that the nurses are extremely busy and sometimes it would take certain nurses some time to come when called. the day i was discharged, dr. alami came in and asked how i was and i said great, can i go home? and he said sure, the hospital is for sick people. we laughed. he made sure i had everything i needed at home and stressed to me that i needed to take all vitamins and protein and made sure i drank water and walked. he answered any questions i had and said if there were any problems to call right away. i felt very secure going home. i would have to say that i would give them an A+.
I like Dr. Curet very well, I have not seen her many times as Stanford is an educational facility and I am usually seen by an intern. This is ok with me. Luckily I have had great sucess with my surgery. Also, I know if I did have complications it would have been handled by Dr. Curet and her interns. Stanford and their staff have been very informative and let me know about all chances of complications and exactly what I need to do to make this surgery sucessful. I would rate my overall experience as excellent. I think surgical competence is the most important and bedside manner is also a benefit. I felt with my experience both were met.
Didn't meet her until wheeled into surgery. She had just finished up the surgery before mine & she stopped by my bed to tell me she'd be doing my surgery shortly.
Her staff is good. The woman who takes you back to get weighed & bp & all that is really great. Anna (not sure her title) not so great. Seems really stupid. Very scatter-brained & lost my paperwork several times. This was very frustrating as I was coming from six hours away.
Doesn't emphasize aftercare very much. Went down for my year followup and didn't even get to see the surgeon - some intern guy came in and asked a few questions & that was it. Quite a waste of time considering I'd driven 6 hours & paid for a motel room the night before the appt.
I prefer both surgical competence, which Dr. Curyet definitely has and bedside manner. I'd heard ahead of time that she didn't have a very good bedside manner so I wasn't too surprised.
My first impression of my Doctor and her staff was they have a very good program, things are explained in detail and when I left the hospital I was well informed about the risks and benefits. As I have been back there many times my impression just gets better. Everything is well organized and a large amount of detail is given to you. I have no doupt that I will have a good experience with this surgery and looking forward to being healthy.
The after program is set up well and I am planing to be there often. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I think surgical competence and bedside manner are very important.
dr. Curet and her team are very great! they didnt treat me like crap due to insurance like many others in the feild do. they cared about me and that made this process much more easy. i awoke to be greeted by her right hand assistant, and not a day went by in the hospital that i didnt get twice daily visit with time to answer my questions!
cant wait to see her again for my post ops!
Good impression ,competent with good bedside manner, overall, she is the best! i am in the medical profession (over 20 years). i AM IMPRESSED WITH THE STAFF. aNNA PETERS IS A CUT ABOVE AND GOES THE EXTRA MILE IN MAKING SURE YOU ARE WELL INFORMED. i CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HER COMPASSION AND PT. EDUCATION
I have a great deal of trust and gratitude in Dr. Curet. She is sympathetic, a good listener, has a wonderful bedside manner, and above all is an excellent surgeon. My interactions with her have always been and continue to be informative, helpful, and caring. She thoroughly sat down with me and spent the time to addressed the risks of the surgery, what surgery I would be having, the outcomes, and the aftercare that was and is important in my recovery and success as a bariatric patient. She continues to reinterate the aftercare that I require particularly due to the complications I experienced while in the hospital and while out (complications I continue to battle today but hope to have answers to tomorrow).
The only drawback is that Stanford is a teaching hospital, so I obviously had to deal with residents which I did not like and do not like all that much. The problem was information not being thoroughly conveyed between the residents and Dr. Curet. Furthermore, when problems have arisen (and, again, I continue to have problems), I have not been able to speak to Dr. Curet directly but only through others. I only am able to speak to her if I make an appointment, which has been very inconvenient. At times I had to decide whether I needed to go to the emergency room or wait until I could see her.
My only negative that I have experienced with Dr. Curet is a delay in follow through with an abdominal mass that I have had for some time that has caused great pain and has kept me from excercising like I would like. Dr. Curet has known about the mass and hoped it would dissipate on its own but it has not and I am getting quite frustrated. My frustration is due partly becasue of the residents involved, but also that Dr. Curet did not call to discuss the tests with me when they were completed to tell me what the next course of action would be. Again, I have to make an appointment. I have been off work for over 3 months now, and I do not believe the mass has been taken as seriously as it should have been early on.
However, Dr. Curet is profoundly competent in what she does and is passionate about her skills and her patients. I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone considering bariatric surgery. Although I have mentioned my dislike with dealing with residents, Stanford is a great hospital with caring support staff who are more than welcoming to assist when the need arises or a question answered.
Lastly, surgical competence is the most important, and Dr. Curet is extremely competent. However, her tremendous bedside manner makes the entire experience a package deal that makes her the only surgeon I would trust if I had to do the surgery over again!
