Well is says that completely 100% FANTASTIC impressions of your surgeon may be less informative or even suspect. I guess I will have to be suspect then.
Dr. Todd was marvelous. I was having some severe health issues. He contacted my insurance company --- fought with them 2 or 3 times to get my surgery approval -- and rushed me in for the procedure.
Although my surgery turned out to be complicated with my health issues and a previous surgery that I had 20 years ago -- Dr. Todd (and Dr. Searles) waded through the procedure and I came through fabulously and without any incident.
I was even in and out of the hospital in the same timeframe as promised. Dr. Todd was always available, and has followed up in person, by phone, and always available for my appointed office visits.
Fabulous care, fabulous skill, and fabulous choice for my surgeon.
Alaska Bariatric Center and all the people who work there have been great. I did not see Dr. Todd until my final H&P visit, but I had met him at SGM's. He does come often to the meetings and he posts on the board, just to stay in touch with us. I found him to be very busy, I had to write down questions so I would not forget, because I know he is busy. The think I like the least about him is how busy he is, seems to be very rushed. Future patients should write down their questions and ask him, he will be very happy then to take the time to answer your questions. Dr. Todd is very strcit about pre-care and post-care this is just something you have to do for your own health. He can't watch over you 24 hours a day, he expects you to alert him to any problems. He is very upfront with the risks of surgery, he doesn't hide anything---tells about his successes and failures and iinvites you to ask questions. Overall, I think he does a tremendous job and that he really cares about each and every patient and wants tthem to succeed, to enjoy life like he does!!! Surgical competence matters the most to me. I am a nurse, and I have worked with many brilliant surgeons that would scare you off with their bedside manner, but I would want them to operate on me!!! I didn't go to Dr. Todd because I wanted him to hold my hand and placate me, I went to him because I believe he is the best qualified bariatric surgeon in Alaska, and I did my research!!! But, he did hold my hand, smile, and pray with me before surgery!!! what a bonus!!!
Dr.Todd made a great first impression on me when he spoke at the first group meeting I attended which was "meet the Docs" meeting. He didn't shy away from answering any questions no matter how difficult the question maybe to answer. Like what the mortality rate is> The more I attended meeting and appointments the more my asteem for him grew. He was caring and genuinly concerned about whatever concerns or aprehensions I may have been feeling. Between a 1-10 I would give Dr.Todd a 11.
The one thing that drew me to Dr. Todd is that he is a Christian who knows that his talent comes from God. He prays with his patient before surgery! Dr. Todd empathizes with the obese person. He is very caring, very thorough, and genuinely concerned for what is best for the patient. The office staff are wonderful and some are walking testimonies to Dr. Todd's work!
The tests and paperwork may seem a bit too much but I wanted a surgeon that knew all the facts about me and could help me the best he knew how. Dr. Todd is very diligent about after surgery care. I appreciate that he sees his Fairbanks patients at Tanana Valley Clinic as he is able so that we do not have to drive or fly to Anchorage to see him.
I had my surgery November 29, 2004 and I have lost 134 pounds. I went from a size 32 to a size 16! I am so happy and healthy! I just wish I could attend more of the support groups in his area!
Dr. Todd is a very caring and highly religious individual. My impression of him has not changed since firt meeting him. His office staff is very helpful albeit a little understaffed. Waiting to see him can be an adventure in time management. Dr. Todd is very interested in seeing you succeed. Other than the actual surgery, aftercare is the most important aspect of Dr. Todd's practice. A very structured aftercare program that you must follow or risk being chewed out by the doc. Dr. Todd offers an orientation program that is very detailed including risks. He also stresses them at each support group meeting and each appointment with him. I would rate Dr. Todd as the most competent , caring, pleasant and warm physician that I have known and I have been a medic for over 24 years. As I am still a preop I have not experienced his bedside manner yet. Others say it is great. Everyone raves about his surgical competence...The only negative comment I have is that you sometimes have to wait quite awhile in clinic. This is understandble to me given the scope of his practice.....
The first time I met Dr. Todd was at oreintation to Gastric Bypass Surgery. I could tell right away that he was a caring, competent surgeon. His staff are very warm and informative. I think I could honestly say that there was not one thing that I did not like about him or his staff. The experience I had was great all around. I am happy that I had the surgery and that Dr. Todd was my surgeon.
