Mathew Rawlins Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Dr. Rawlins is very relaxed and easy to talk to. He is a very confident in what he does, my husband and I were very impressed! Besides, he comes from our hometown and he graduated from high school the year between our two kids. It's a small world!
Dr. Rawlin's office staff is very friendly.
He addressed the risks of this surgery, but we also addressed the bennefits of this surgery, which in my mind outway the risks!
I believe that his surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.
Dr. Rawlins has got to be one of the most thorough and compassionate doctors I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. During my initial consultation, he spent over an hour with my husband and I explaining about the surgery, benefits/risks and answering questions. The same thing during my pre-op appointment-doesn't seem rushed to get out of the room and on to the next patient. The day of surgery, he came to check on me in the pre-op holding area and was so caring and kind. He then came to see me again in the holding area right before we went into surgery. As soon as I was awake, he was there to check on me and reassure me that everything went perfectly and he'd see me the next day. He visited me in the hospital each day, ensuring I was feeling good and not having any problems. His bedside manner is wonderful and he gives such a feeling of confidence.
Dr. Rawlins does have a structured aftercare program, consisting of follow up visits with him and his dietician and also has a support group.
All of Dr. Rawlins staff is very caring and supportive. Each time I spoke to someone on his staff, they were kind and competent.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Rawlins as an exceptional surgeon and would recommend him to anyone who was considering any type of surgery.
When I first met Dr. Rawlins I was surprised at how young he was but was put to ease as I talked with him. He did a good job of explaining the pros and cons of the surgery and answered all of my questions. I expected more of a physical examination but was releived to find that it wasn't necessary on my first visit. I felt that the receptionist wasn't as sure of what she was doing but the other nurses and staff were very helpful and kind. My regular Dr. was very impressed with Dr. Rawlins after reading the report he sent on me. He will definately recommend Dr. Rawlins to any of his other patients seeking surgery. Dr. Rawlins has a great bedside manner and took great care of me. In my opinion he was a great Dr. and I would recommend him to anyone else.
My first impression of Dr. Rawlins was that he was young and might not have the experience that I would want. I quizzed him mercilessly about his education, how many surgeries he had preformed, what kind of complications he had had and how he had dealt with them. He was more than patient with me and put my fears to rest while at the same time explaining all the risks.
He is a very skilled surgeon. He stays focused on the real issue of long-term health. Because of this, he takes a more conservative approach than I was looking for at first. After being in the hospital and hearing nothing but praise for his work, I now appreciate his care and concern. He is so caring and compassionate. He has a remarkable ability to be cautious and conservative with my care while at the same time reassuring me that everything is progressing without a hitch.
His office staff is very sensitive and friendly but they do sometimes have scheduling problems. For instance, they scheduled my surgery for December 5th when Dr. Rawlins was going to be out of town; it had to be rescheduled. I was not informed of this until I came for an appointment a month later, an appointment, which was on my paper work but not in their appointment book. They had to scramble to fit me in. It was an altogether disappointing day.
I would like more aftercare but what he offers is adequate. Two week, three month with lab work, six month and one year. I think there should be yearly follow-ups for life.
Dr. Rawlins is a skilled, well-respected surgeon with a delightful bedside manner. I would highly recommend him.
My first impression of Dr. Rawlins was that he looked like duggie Howser. Well I still have that impression of him, but I know he is a very talanted surgeon, and he really cares for his patients. his office staff is great and very supportive.
he stresses after care with all of his patients. His after care program reqiers you to see him at 2weeks, 3 mons, 6 mos, and 1 year post-op.
i would rate him on a scale of 1-10 ten being the best an 11.
his surgical competence and his bed side manner are supurb.
I honestly didn't have a negitive experence at all were Dr. Rawlins is concerned, how ever I did have one with his dietican.
Wow!! I can not begin to say how impressed I am with Dr. Rawlins. He is so down to earth and spent well over an hour with me. I had a page and a half of questions and most were answered before I got to my list.
Dr. Rawlins and Dr. Bright have a great surgical partnership and have had wonderful success with their patients. I am completely confident in his care and know that I am blessed to have a wonderful physician to guide me through WLS.
Dr. Rawlins is also from my hometown and remembered my husbands name from high school. Nice to have a connection there. I am looking forward to this proceedure and would send anyone I know and love to Dr. Rawlins.
Dr. Rawlins is a skilled, compassionate, encouraging young man with a delightful sense of humor and a real desire to improve people's lives. He explains everything carefully, he provides moral support, he does excellent work, he follows up, and he shares his patients' excitement as the weight comes off and they begin to reclaim (or to experience for the first time) the joys of a normal life. This is a topnotch surgeon and a very special man. Search all you like – you'll never find anyone better.
Kudo's to the Rockwood Clinic Staff Group and Dr. Mathew Rawlins. What a pleasant experience it has been so far. I met with the doctor today. He was extremely professional & personalable. We went over my medical history and chatted "outside the box" about life and weight problems in general. Never once did that man look at his watch like I was taking up too much of his time. He was straight-forward and confident of his skill level. That put me at ease. He offered the information about the risks that bariatric surgery poses but we also focused on the positive aspects of it. He operates as a partnered relationship with Dr. Andrew Bright. They feel with both of them working on a patient, the patient is under the anesthesia less time and that reduces the risks associated with surgery. I found the entire process to be enjoyable.
Also - the doctors' support staff is incredible. Danae, Patty and Marjorie are very friendly and offer a great deal of support and assistance. Thanks. I will be having my surgery in January 2003. Yippee!
NEW UPDATE:
I am now 6 months post-op and have had 3 follow-ups with Dr. Rawlins. He is still as wonderful as ever. I saw him at the hospital while I was supporting another member who was having WLS and he sits down, looks at me and smiles and says, "That's my girl - look at you now!" Then he proceeds to ask me about my husband and son and remembers their names! Like he doesn't have enough on his mind. This guy is incredible, warm, loving and amazing. I highly recommend him to anyone wanting this surgery. You would be lucky to have him.
