Mason Jett Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Jett today. I am a registered nurse. I thought Dr. Jett was very knowledgeable, he was very thorough with his explaination of the procedure. He spent about 30 minutes just talking with me. He did not give me a choice about which surgery I would have. He said he only did the vertical banded gastroplasty. I was thinking that I would prefer the gastric bypass. I am undecided about whether to have the vertical banded, or look for another surgeon. I would rate him very high, and I have known alot of Dr's. I am afraid the chances of regaining weight are greater with the vertical banded. He stressed the "rules". He said that 100% of people who follow the rules have good results. My concern is that if I could follow a bunch of diet rules why do I need surgery in the first place. Would appreciate any comments from people who have had either surgery.

My first impression was that he was great. He explained the entire procedure, laid out the benifits the downsides and the risks. His office staff was very helpfull. I would rate doc Jett an 8/10.
I am almost 4 months post op and I have lost 51lbs. pre op weight 246. almost 4 months post op weight 195

Dr. Jett was so wonderful....He came in and sat knee to knee with me. He explained several different surgeries and made diagrams of the procedure so I could understand. He also explains very throughly all of the risks concerning each and let's you decided from there. However, I will say that he prefers to do VBG with the vertical pouch. If interested I will let him explain why. This is the surgery I have choosen. Now I await insurance approval. He was very kind and insightful, also positive and that feels good. He was also very confident in doing the procedure that I choose and that makes me feel better! He is wonderful and I recommend him to anyone looking for a surgeon in Oklahoma City! His staff was also very good and an informed crew. The only thing if I had to say something that I think needed improvement was the fact that they do not tell you that they will do an exam on the consult visit. That would have been helpful to know. Other than that I have no complaints. He believes in regular check ups...he feels very strong in this in that if you don't you could have problems and he wants to prohibit that. If I had to rate him between (1-10) 10 being the highest, I would say 9 1/2. And I only say that right now...I haven't had the surgery yet with him so how could I possibly say more. I let you know after I have it done.

I was so scared going to my consultation. My wife came with me, boy was I glad. My first impression of Dr. Jett was a good one. He got right to the point. I didn't feel ashamed of being overweight. Most doctors I have delt with in the past look down apon you for being overweight. His staff was very friendly. His nurse had a big smile, (a smile goes a long way). Dr. Jett carefully went over the surgery with my wife and I. He explained the old surgery and then the new, and then went over possible complications. He also told me what he expected me to do for him. As in being truthfull, and keeping up my end of the bargin by coming back for the post op appointments on time and so forth. He gladly said he would get right on the approval process thru the insurance. That's what I am waiting on now. So far, I am very happy with Dr. Jett and his staff.
