01/13/03 Had my first visit with Dr. Jett, I had heard mixed reviews on him, but overall thought him to be very friendly and informational. He showed a video first where he explained just how the surgery goes (vertical banded gastro), then let's you know the drawbacks of it and the other two types. The office staff was very friendly and made you feel very relaxed.
On my first visit to Dr. Jett (5/02), he was friendly, but very professional and to-the-point. He took a lot of time explaining the procedure and the risks involved, and adequately answered all my questions. He made it very clear that the success of the surgery depended upon my willingness and ability to "follow the rules" and that the VBG was a tool to help me succeed.
The office staff was friendly and helpful (especially Angie, the surgery coordinator). Dr. Jett sent the letter to my insurance company right away and within just a few days, I received a reply from BC/BS PPO requesting a weight loss history from five different calendar years. At this point, my work schedule became very heavy and I knew I would not be able to take off for the surgery until it slowed down. So, I did not provide this additional information to BC/BS until the last week in November 2002. When I did provide it, however, I was approved within two days, and my surgery was scheduled for 12/12/02.
I am now 16 days post-op and have lost 30 lbs. My impression of Dr. Jett has changed -it's gotten better! He was very professional on the day of surgery, during my hospital stay and at my first post-op visit, and I felt complete confidence in his abilities. The only "negative" I have to say is that I wish Dr. Jett offered a support group for after-care - I'd really like to attend meetings in person with some other folks who have gone through the same things I have... I think it would be very helpful and improve my success rate.
He had done surgery on me in the past and everything went very smoothly. He is very educated and good at what he does. I have always liked him. Everyone in his office is very friendly. I don't really know what I could say I like least about him. Some people say he does not have good beside manner, but I do not agree. He strongly emphasizes aftercare. At the consultation, he explains the surgery, risks, and benefits all in great detail. I would rate him a 10. I believe his surgical competence is the best and that is what is really important.
He is so very professional and nice
His staff is very polite and helpful.
He is very emphatic on his aftercare he will want to see you once a month after the surgery to check up on you.
He explained both the bypass surgery and the VBG surgery giving me the pro's and con's of both he really prefers the VBG surgery because there isnt as many health risks involved.
I really dont have anything negative to say except during our consultation he got a page and made a phone call wich i thought was a little rude.
Dr Jett, Was amazing man. He understands what your going threw and explains everything to you in laymans terms. Also, he does it one on one and not in a room of other patients. So when you ask him a question you don't feel like it's a dum one.
My surgery is schedule for August 12, 2002
I really did like Dr. Jett, he was very informative. I had an appointment for october 2, 2002, i called them to ask if they had any cancellations, I would like to be called. I was called on Monday August 12, for an appointment the very next day. I was so happy! The office staff were very kind as well. Now just waiting on a date!
He was very nice but very straight to the point and direct. He went into detail about the surgery and didn't seem rushed.
These are my opinions based on my personal experience and by no means are they a reflection of the expected care of any or all other patients of Dr Mason Jett.
Be prepared for a possible long wait.
I waited 1 1/2 hours to see him before I had to leave to return to work,
I don't know if this was a attempt to see how motivated I am or what. Due to job constraints I was unable to commit to a 4 hour wait/office visit as I was told to expect by office staff after extended wait.If I lose my job and insurance coverage I can't have surgery.
It may have been just a fluke but I would have appreciated a call prior to appt to inform me of possible delay.
His office referred me to this site but I had a hard time finding info until discovered the area on fellow OKC patients.n.
He was referred to me by a high respected area doctor.
