Dr. Kligman was very up front in sharing the pros and cons of his surgical procedure and the options that existed. He and his office staff have excellent patient skills and should be a comfort to those who have an uneasy feeling about doctors and hospitals. UMD Hospital in Baltimore is an excellent hospital and has an equally excellent record for minimal complications. rnrnIf you are contemplating surgery, I wish you success. I also caution, that Dr. Kligman can surgically do what it takes to make your success possible, he cannot make you a success. If you don’t plan to or are concerned that you cannot live a very new and different life style, don’t put yourself through this.
Competent, very serious. No, nothing changed my impression. His staff is top notched although I believe he needs to increase the number. Dr K is very aloof, very detached and very business like. If you want a \"warm fuzzy\" do not chose him. Dr K is extremly serious about the need for exercise after surgery....it is all in black and white...no gray areas about it!! Right after surgery you schedule appts for every 3 mos post op. If there are any problems you are to call his office ASAP! After attending his informational seminar I had a good idea of the risks but on our one on one meeting he let me know of all the risks possible. How would I rate him overall? He is ALL business. He is a good surgeon. I've had no problems since my surgery. I believe when you deal w/people so closely you need to have both competence AND bedside manner. Anyone who choses to go through this is apprehensive and a little warmth from the surgeon would certainly help lessen that apprehension. The surgeon doesn't need to be your friend but he needs understand how and what the patient is feeling and going thru emotionally.
I FISRT MET DR. K AT HIS SEMINAR IN PIKESVILLE MD. I THOUGHT HE WAS A VERY INTELLEGENT MAN AND HAD THE ANSWER TO MY PROBLEM. I ALSO THOUGHT HE HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. WHEN I HAD MY FIRST APPT WITH HIM I KNEW I WAS RIGHT. I THINK THE WORLD OF HIM AND FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE PUTTING MY LIFE IN HIS HANDS FOR THIS. DR KLIGMAN IS THE BOMB!!!
First impression: Professional, matter-of-fact, capable - that's all that really matters to me. His office staff has been great so far. Kelly is a jewel. Make sure that you do what he tells you to do. There is a program that he tells you to follow and he tells you up front that if you follow it you will be successful, if not - no guarantees. 5/12 - I'm still scared of the man. I don't know why but he intimidates me. I kinda feel like a child and he is my scolding parent. I don't want to give him any reason to scold me. I want to do what is right and will give it my all.
Dr. Fullum is very personable. This weight loss education seminar goes into great detail about the history of obesity, how it happens, reasons by just diet and exercise may not work for extremely overweight people, the risks, his own statistics, and so on. It was great. The group was small so I felt like my questions were answered in a good enough detail. rnrnHis Office Manager Kelly called the next day to set up an appointment, so that's what we have so far. More later. rnrnUpdate: 4/9 - I have decided to switch surgeons and go with Dr.Kligman of UMMC. Dr. Fullum is an awesome doctor and surgeon. I would trust my life in his hands. But I have decided to transfer over to Dr. Kligman and the staff at UMMC. He seems like a firm but kind man. He holds high expectations for patients and is all about holding people accountable for their weightloss. It's a different style, but one I can work with.
Dr. Kligman is very straight forth. I like that about him. I know some people says he's scary. He told me all the good and bad things of what can happen. He makes you walk after your surgery. Although he scared me into walking, it worked. His staff was ok. I believe I was given enough information before the surgery. He was the best for me.
Don't let him intimidate you, he can appear a little cold at first but once he knows you're dedicated he will warm up more. He can be your best friend when you are following the contract or your worst enemy when you are being a slacker (after all isn't this part of his job?). He is an excellent surgeon with great stats and an awesome reputation which is greatly deserved. As a medical professional I was impressed with his aftercare and concern for his patients well being. And even though his bedside manner can be a little off putting at times, you get used to it when you realize he is a typical surgeon, very analytical and goal oriented which isn't necessarily a bad thing. All in all I don't regret my decision to choose him and I have full faith that he knows his stuff.
Dr. Kligman is a great man. He is very knowledgeable about what he does. As others have said, he can come across as very cocky, but he is also very confident. He expects his patients to put forth effort and will make you take a written test and sign a contract with him, to make sure you know exactly what you are getting yourself into. Kligman addressed all the risks of surgery and took time to answer my questions. His surgical competence and bedside manner were terrific, he visited me 3 times while I was in the hospital, once at 11pm and then again at 7am. I don't think he ever sleeps! He's great and I'd totally recommend him and his staff to anyone.
