Linda A. Patterson Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
2/13/04 Met Dr Patterson yesterday for my consultation. She seems to be very knowledgabel and explained things completely. She was sensitive to my Mom being there and her need to understand the proceedures. I felt "comfortable" with talking to her and her ability to handle my case. The staff at CCBS was friendly and very upbeat, I look forward to working with them. CCBS has a very comprehensive program with focus on nutrition and communication among members.
First impression was she was professional and confident, and she is. She is very firm about what she will expect from her patients and makes sure you know what you are in for. All risks were addressed straight forward. She's got a nice smile and a quick wit. All in all I liked her, personally and professionally.
She is part of an organized group that places strong emphasis on education and communication. Their weakness is probably the process of getting the patient from insurance approval to their surgery date. How do they/can they control all of us impatient prospective patients??
It's a growing "business" and the surgeon isn't and shouldn't be the business side of the process. The staff is suffering from the increased sales growth of their "product", which happens to be gastric bypass surgery. They want to do it better and learn from previous challenges so I'm sure they will.
A delightful, calm, caring and interested person who finds helping people turn their lives around to be "very rewarding". Not pretentious, very real and genuine. Always ready to answer the next question, and to keep going as long as it takes until all your questions are answered. Very nice.
Will tell you about bedside manner in a few months ... ;)

From after surgery -- she's calm, friendly, smiling, got a great bedside manner! Gives all the information, gives clear directions, is willing to answer any question any time. GREAT lady.

From watching the program change over time, I've got to say I wouldn't recommend anyone to this practice at this time. While the surgeons are still top-notch, when they're putting people through on an assembly-line like they are there is just no way they can give the quality of care they used to provide. More people are falling through more cracks, and although they are offering more 'programs', there is less actual care going into each individual. The latest change, that we will no longer see the surgeon for follow up, is why I'm not going back. No, the internist is not 'good enough' -- or if the internist is good enough, then MY internist is good enough, and either way I don't need to be going back there. That's just the latest on a long list of quality reducing steps this practice has taken in recent times. (AMOS is in no way responsible for my personal opinion.)
At my initial consultation, I was very pleased with Dr. Patterson's personality and her attention to my personal situation. I am looking forward to seeing her again.
I had my surgery on July 29, 20034 and I was very glad Dr. Patterson was my suegeon. She came to see me before surgery and helped to calm my nerves by answering questions and just being kind.
At my first check up at three weeks post-op she was very informative and helpful.
Dr. Patterson is very professional. She is caring
and very nice. Discussed everything with me in
great detail. Answered every question we had. I would recommend
her to any one who would ask.
Her staff are great! They have been so helpful and are funny.
They make everything so simple, and love to make you smile.
My case worker is so understanding, and I couldn't have asked for
someone else.
Dr. Patterson took her time discussing the after care and effects in
great detail. I was happy that they offered there statics for after effects.
I'm so comfortable and have no 2nd thoughts about the surgery.
I'm glad that I'm under the hands of a great surgeon, and staff.
Most of I know that God has been in every step and that He will be
there the rest of the way. I thank God that He has given great wisdom
to Dr. like these in this field!!!
The only thing I would say that I didn't like was the fact that
she didn't laugh much. To me that is important but who knows what kind
of day she had. I know that, that would never stop me from going to her.
Now that the surgery is over, I have no doubt in my mins that I would recommend Dr.
Patterson to anyone. She is such a wonderful women, and knows her stuff.
My WLS consult with Dr. Patterson was on 2/8/03. She was very upfront with me regarding the risks and what to expect after the surgery. Both myself and my fiance were a little uneasy until speaking with her. She took the time to answer all his questions as well as mine. I feel very confident in her and look forward to getting my approval and surgery date. As for the office staff, I have not had the best of luck getting quick responses or upfront answers. After my visit to Dr. Patterson, all my paperwork was reviewed and I was told that it looked as if I had all the necessary information to move forward. Then to find out three weeks after my initial consult, and many many emails and phone calls, I needed a six month supervised physicans diet program (I had already started this a week early after speaking with Aetan directly). I checked in with CCBS (St. Vincents) many times during this period to make sure I was on the right track. Once my six month physican supervised diet program was up, I faxed all the information to my administrative contact. I spent a week just trying to see if they received my information (that I ended up faxing twice then finally hand delivering). After I emailed almost everyone at CCBS, I finally was told I needed one more year weight history which I was able to provide and fax immediately. All the information was provided to them on 8/20/03 and should have been signed and forwarded at that time. I called and emailed again..without response and was able to get an answer that the doctor did not sign the letter until 8/27/03 at which time everything was faxed to Aetna. I gave Aetna a few days and followed up with them. They had received the paperwork, but it was still in review. I finally spoke to my CCBS contact on 9/03/03 and she said they now needed a nutritionist/dietician supervised program with my physician...UGH. I was devistated. A new wall I have to break through. I checked the policy bulletin at Aetna and found that they changed the criteria on 8/22/03. I might have squeeked past this if all the paperwork was sent just one week prior. Then on 9/3/03 I received a call back from my admin contact at CCBS. She spoke to Aetna and they decided that the paperwork was good, lots of info..it would be fine to submit to the review board. But as things turn out...I was denied on 9/04/03 for the lack of supportive documentation regarding the nutritionist/dietician. Since this time, I have been unable to get a call back or response from anyone at CCBS to explain to me how this could happen and where to go from here. I feel so depressed and have been making my self sick waiting to get a response from them. If I did not want this so much for myself, I'd throw in the towel. I have two friends who have had this surgery and they are totally different people. I look forward to the day I might be able to join them.
Dr. Patterson has all my confidence. I know someone who recently had the surgery, performed by Dr. Patterson, and she said all went great.
I met Dr. Patterson for the first time on 8/27. She is a no-nonsense kind of person. It was very important to her that I understood all the risks and exactly what was expected of me before she would talk about anything else. I feel that the office staff and CCBS is very efficient and kind to all that come in.
