After finally meeting Dr Krause on Sept 3, 2003, I found him to be exactly what I expected. I'd read several reviews on him and talked online with a few of his patients. When I stepped into his conference room, I saw a very unassuming young man that most people wouldn't look at twice. But as we sat with him and he began speaking, I knew I'd made the right choice for me. He started at the beginning, where Weight Loss Surgery began, then the specifics of his own style and preferences. He went through the dangers and the statistics. The National average and his own averages. He speaks bluntly but sensitively about what could happen and it's possibilities. And he can smile and joke a bit as well. In the private part of the consultation/exam, he spoke of the specifics of my case, pointed out where incisions would be made and how I should feel after the surgery is done. He is very concerned with after care, especially as my insurance company does not participate with the clinics he uses for after care and nutrition. All in all, I'm very pleased with my choice of surgeon. Now I just need to find out if his clinic has been accepted by my insurance yet (they were in the process back in May), or if I need to find someone in the insurance network that can and will work with this surgeon to make this the positive experience it's supposed to be.
my first impression of dr krauss was that he is a very nice person and intelligent as well i am glad i picked him. his office staff seems to be very nice so far as well. he was very thorough about the risks of surgery and emphasized the aftercare program to be very beneficial to the sucess of your weight loss . i would rate dr krauss with a 10 he seemed to listen to me and that means alot. i think that surgical competence is the most important but a good bedside manner goes a long way too . if there is anything i could say that is a little negative at this point it is the fact he looks so young lol
I was told by many of Dr. Krause's patients that he was young. So this did not come as a huge surprise to me. He was quite considerate and very informative when we met with the group. There was four patients in the room with their support person and he answered all the questions without making you feel like he was talking down to you. The office staff was great in person but I have found that they are very short and sometimes rude on the phone, however they are very busy, I guess they are just overwhelmed with calls throughout the day.
Dr. Krause only does the lap RNY. He takes 3 people at one time for the consultation. After the explanation you have a short private meeting where you can address of your own concerns.
The group consult is in a conference room and he explains everything about the surgery and what he expects. He gives you a good-sized booklet which contans everything he says with drawings and details. You can ask any questions you want. He explains all the risks thoroughly. By the time you get done, if you are not informed about something it is your own fault.
Then we are called individually for a private talk and he examined my abdomen. He even found a hernia that I didn't know I had. I would rate him as an excellent doctor. I like this friendliness but his knowledge and experience won my over.
The staff is overwhelmed due to a sudden influx of patients. They are friendly and are genuinely interested in helping. I hope they will figure out a good technique to deal with it.
I am his first patient who has Blue Cross of Illinois. I have to get a pre-approval. they took 2 weeks to get the letter out and I will call next week to see if BC got it and find out what more they need if anything.
My impression of Kevin Krause is that of
the consumate professional who is very compassionate
and concerned about his patients.
He spent an hour with my husband and I going
over all the issues with the procedure and
answering all our questions - no holds barred.
Inpatient visits were twice daily and he followed
the prescribed visits post-op as he indicated
he would before the procedure.
He is a very skilled and talented physician. His staff
is very helpful and compassionate and very
responsive to patient inquiries.
He is accessible and available to his patients for
any reason.
I would highly recommend him to anyone considering
this procedure. They will not be disappointed in
the doctor.
Dr. Krause first appeared too young and too serious but he was neither. He was warm, very knowledgeable, with a lot of experience and did indeed have a sense of humor when I needed it. He was available 24/7 --even answered a call from the office that seemed urgent to me - while in surgery! No he didn't leave the OR, don't worry, but by speaker phone they got the answer I needed. He has a calm and reassuring bedside manner that is at once practicle and helpful. He doesn't overburden you with over-protective rules like I've heard of other docs doing--(which often seem legally self-protective rather than patient-helpful). He's extremely patient-oriented even tho' his less than polite office staff would lead you to believe otherwise upon first encounters with them.
It is a cumersome process to get in to see him now bec. of the hospital requirements but well worth the wait and I think they are still trying to streamline that. You used to be "no-showed" go thru the Beaumont WLS screeing before getting in to meet him. Believe me, HE IS WORTH THE PROCESS AND THE WAIT! His follow-up is marvelous and part of the packaged surgery bill. AsI said, He WILL be there for you, even now, when he is sooo busy. And, the the way, I'm over one year out, NO problems and almost no scars -they're fading fast!
When I finally had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Krause and his staff I was very suprised. I have been to Doctors/surgeons in the past that are in the biggest rush to get you in and out. Dr. Krause encouraged my husband and I to ask questions and gave us very in depth answers and was not satisfied until he KNEW we understood the answer to our question. He was very nice and I felt completely comfortable around him.
If you intend to see Dr. Krause, please do not be afraid to ask questions for fear of taking too much of his time. He has nothing but time for you when you are there and is very eager and willing to help with any questions you have.
dr.krause is a very wonderful, careing, surgeon that allows all the time i needed to ask any questions, concerns that i have.the office person(donna) is also just great!both of theme made you feel like a real person,dr.krause of course was concerned about my nutrietionist(i live a hour and a half away)but he said that i could go to one by my home or work providing they are knowledgable with bareatric surgery! and he would follow my health at his office.I am even considering going to his nutrietionist since he highly recomendes theme, and he has done over 170 lap surgerys!!I have been to four other surgeons and none of theme compare to the overall security that i felt with this docter(the Lord has truly guided me to this docter)he explained all the risks that incure with this type of surgery and i have had some other abdominal surgerys that complicate this surgery but he told me that the surgery will probably take a little longer but he believes that all will go well(lap verses open)he also made me fell more comftorable about the risk after surgery since i had a breathing probleme after my last surgery one yeare ago!I am totally competent in my decission that dr.krause is the best surgeon for me!what more can i ask for!my surgery is set for march 27th .
