Dr Zuccala and his office is the best staff I have ever met. I have been going through this procedure since Nov, when I first handed in my app. They stopped doing appointments until the end of Jan, when they finally called me I was elated. Let me tell you when you are there, there is a wait but it is so worth it he is the best. He makes you feel like you are the only one. He has an incredible sense of humor, and is really sweet but he lays everything out on the line for you. Tells you this is not the magic bullet and what he expects from you, but he does the hard stuff haha. The staff goes out of their way for you. Terri the head nurse, Kathy the coordinator(incredible) Joanne, Colleen,...the are all just great, and they do everything for you. You should absolutely go to every meeting, that is the best part about the office is how they get the patients together in support group meetings, call lists, clothes swaps. They change your life. Just make sure if you are going to the support group, know the basics i.e whats BMI, how long recovery is...etc, the standard questions.
I met with Dr. Zuccala for the first time on March 17th. It was refreshing to have a conversation with a physician where you understand his responses and feel as though the physician is truly understanding of what your fears are. He is very compassionate and knowledgable and, most of all, very forthright in his answers. He does not sugar coat anything.
I felt very comfortable and secure. I have attended other group sessions of other Connecticut physicians and find his approach to the surgery and structured aftercare program to be very thorough.
His office staff is great. And they never make you feel as though the most ridiculous question is not warranted. The entire office has the patient's best interest at heart.
Dr. Zuccala was so very open and honest about the surgery. He was also quite caring, as well as very funny! My first impression was extremely positive.
The staff was terrific. The approval process seemed to take forever, but that's the way of the world. Between the paper work and the medical approvals, time just crawled! However, the staff did keep me from totally losing my sanity.
After all of the appropriate approvals, I got my surgical date. As I recall, I met with Dr. Zuccala the Friday before my Monday surgery date. I asked him a million questions, and he answered each one with ease and good humor. I felt great.
Post-op, at about 3 weeks, I devleoped a seroma and had to call his answering service that evening. He returned my call within 5 minutes. I was really amazed by that. He saw me the next day and he calmed my fears and, again, took a great deal of time with me.
His after-care program is excellent. There are monthly meetings at the hospital and many of Dr. Zuccala's patients have become friends. Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend all of the meetings. I really do enjoy going to them!!!!
This surgery is not easy. It is a major assault to the body. I am so grateful that, once I made the decision to have this, I found a doctor who I could count on to take such great care of me physically and emotionally.
I found Dr. Zuccala's office to be slip shod at best. They do not retrun calls in a timely manner. He never returns calls or e-mails/ Kathy wwho works inhis office is snappish. There is no patient privacy and your personal information is blurted out for anyone in the waiting room to hear. Lastly, in my opinion, Dr. Zuccala is more concerned about the $$$$ then the patients. Look his name up and you will see that his only published article in 2002 was "The financial implications.....blah, blah, blah."
In my opinion, anyone who would let him near them is just asking for trouble.
These statements represent my personal opinion and experiences. Your own experience may be different.
First impression was he seemed genuinely concerned about my health but came on kinda strong in the begining on how you got to be serious and follow their directions or the surgery would be no good. My mind was saying who the hell is this guy but when I met with him again and again I can truley see the compassion and concern he has for me, which once again proves you don't judge a book by it's cover.
Dr. Zuccala and his staff have treated me with kindness and respect and has worked hard for me and for my best intrests. He is a credit to his profession and his staff could not be better.
Dr. Zuccala is a very nice guy...and I've heard, a very skilled surgeon. He was very thorough about the proceedure, and answered all my questions. His staff is great. They are sooooo busy, you wonder how they get it all done! But they have been great. So far, in my journey, I have no complaints with his office.
Dr. Zuccala is a knowledgeable, and compassionate surgeon. He also has a great sense of humor. He described the risks and benefits, of Roux-en-y, in great detail. He also promises he will be there for you throughout the entire process. There was more than ample time for questions or concerns. He has a fantastic aftercare program. He and his staff coordinate monthly support group meetings too. His staff is AMAZING. I can't say enough about the wonderful group of people who work in the office. Dr. Zuccala states they are the jewels in his crown and I most certainly agree with him. If I had to rate him as a surgeon, he's an overall GREAT.
