I met his Fellow first and he sat down with me and talked about the surgery and answered a few questions I wanted to clarify. He was great and we had fun. Then shortly after I met Dr. Gersin. He was great, also very funny. I trust him completely and I look forward to him doing my surgery. He has a good bedside manner and I have complete confidence in his surgical skills. I was very impressed that they are doing a lot of research in this field and ask you to participate. I was more than happy to consent because I feel there hasn't been enough research and I'd love to see more info available to the public. They have a fantastic aftercare program and are committed to following you for the rest of your life. That shows how much they care and will also help with the information available down the road about the long term reults of the surgery. Their office staff was great. I went straight back and didn't even to get to sit down in the waiting room. I definetly think Dr. Gersin is the right surgeon for me and I know now that all this waiting was definetly for a reason.
I knew I trusted Dr Gersin from the moment I met him. He made sure I understood all the risks involved and how important aftercare is. I didn't leave his office thinking this would be a quick fix to my obesity problem. He and his staff educated me on the risks and answered any questions I had. I can't think of one single negative thing to say about him or his staff. They are all so helpful and willing to answer all your questions. They are prompt with calling you back when you have questions post-op! I couldn't be happier with the surgery or care I received at the hospital and still receive at 3 months post op! Dr Gersin, you are the greatest! I can't sing your praises highly enough! I feel lucky to have a Dr like you in the Tristate area.
As you all know our program has developed over the last two years. We are here to help you through this journey. Our staff is committed to your healthcare. All of our patients are important to us and we are here to support you. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with your questions, comments, and concerns.
My first impression of Dr. Gersin... It wasn't too good, because the first time I was to meet him, I was put into a small room in his office, and then they forgot to tell him I was there. I fell asleep waiting for him, so after 3 hours, they remembered I was there. Not a good impression, though he is a friendly enough man.
Did my impression change over time... Well, no, not really. He seems to forget you even exist the moment you leave his office.
His staff... well, he has an LPN who isn't very bright. Her name is Joann, and she doesn't know how to listen to your heart beat. (She said I had an irregular hearbeat, and when I argue with her that I don't, she refused to believe me. And then she put on my chart I had an irregular heartbeat!)
Another staffer couldn't do simple math! I want to go see him after the surgery, and I KNEW I had lost 24 pounds, but his staffer did the math, and said I had only lost 17 pounds!
3 weeks after my surgery, I ended up with some horrible pain in my left side. I called Dr. Gersin, and he sent me back to the hospital. I was there for 3 days more, and then the following day I had an appt. with Dr. Gersin. He wanted to know why I had gone back to the hospital, who told me to go, and then couldn't remember seeing me while I was in there.
I am sure his surgical competence HAS to be better then his bedside manner. On a scale of 1 to 10, my overall rate for his is a 4.
My first impression was good. He saw me on time and was relaxed and eager to answer any questions. As time has gone on, I realize I may be a very lucky person to have this gentleman on my side and performing my surgery. He seems genuinely caring and available. So far, the staff is fine but very busy.
My impression of Dr. Gersin has done nothing but get better with time. He has a full complementary staff that meets all the needs of the bariatric patient. What I like least about Dr. Gersin is the location of his office, but the hospital location was great. My surgery, a laproscopic Roux-En-Y went well without complications. Needed tests were performed in a very timely fashion. I went home 24 hours later which greatly reduced the hospital charges that I may have to pay myself. He took into consideration my whole situation and gave excellent care in the manner that I needed it. Future patients should know that Dr. Gersin is a highly trained surgeon and they will be in excellent hands. Aftercare is readily available and encouraged. The risks of surgery were frankly addressed. I would recommend him HIGHLY 10+ to anyone requiring surgery. As far as what is better, surgical competence far outweighs a bedside manner. Dr. Gersin is blessed with the best of both.
My first impression of Dr. Gersin was very positive. Although I did not get to talk to him for very long, he seemed eager to answer any questions that I may have. He was a little standoff-ish, and could work on his bedside manner, though.
I found his staff to be very courteous and helpful. I was especially impressed with Joanna. She was very straightforward in her description of what I am to expect. The aftercare isn't going to be easy, but I am positive that I can handle it! The risks of the surgery do not concern me in the least. I figure if God wants me, there is nothing I can do to stop it!
Overall - I would give Dr. Gersin and his staff a high ranking :)
Dr. Gersin is very nice in has great information on weight loss surgery. He has been very helpful with all of my questions and conserns.
The office staff at UC Physician's Weight Loss are great. When ever I need information they are always ready to get it for me if they don't already have it.
Dr. Gersin's and the rest of the staff at UC stress the importance of aftercare so well that I do believe those who are not commited to aftercare 100% would be denied services.
I recommend UC Weight Loss programs and surgeons. They are excellent.
I first met with Dr. Gersin on 2/13/03 for my inital consultation. I was very impressed by him. He took his time with me and answered every question I had in detail. He also incouraged me to keep writing down questions as I think of them so I would have them the next time we meet. Not only did he go into detail about the procedure but his P.A., Joanna Brown, did also. Everyone I have had contact within that office has been great. I will see Dr. Gersin again on 6/12/03, right before my surgery.
His group also offers a support group that meets on a monthly basis. At these meetings they try to have ones that are post-op to discuss what they went through and what they are currently going through. Before your surgery it is mandatory that you attend at least one of these meetings, a two hour dietary class and must have a psyhological exam to make sure you are also ready mentally.
This group also requires you to follow-up with them on a yearly basis for blood work after surgery.
I would highly recommend Dr. Gersin to anyone that is considering this surgery.
