Julio Teixeira Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Dr. Teixeira is not in Valhalla and more. He is a Montifiore in the Bronx. What a great Doc. Pleasure to be around with a good sense of humor but he also has the confidence that is reassuring. I went to him because my original surgeon thought it would be best to have a band put in and after losing weight to have the by-pass. Doc. Teixeira laid out my options and I found I was able to get the original surgery I had hoped for done. Can't say enough about how confident I feel with him as my surgeon.
I met Dr. Tex in September 2001 with my mother. After doing extensive researching about weight loss surgery, my mother decided to do it too. She wanted to have the least invasive procedure. I was informed that Dr. Tex performs the LAP procedure. I initially started with the Open RNY, but I was leaning more towards the LAP. After meeting with him with my mom, I made my own appointment to discuss having the surgery done by him. He is a nice soft spoken person. He smiles a lot, and he is patient. I felt very comfortable talking to him. His staff is amazing, especially Desiree. I have one piece of advice to share. And that is to make sure you are aware of all the pre-op tests you need before you leave the office on your first appointment. All of the pre-op tests should be scheduled right a way. Desiree is so informative, patient, caring, etc. If it weren't for her I don't think I would have the guts to continue. Desiree handles the insurance part really well. She has a lot of knowledge about the different insurance agencies. I have Medicaid and my mom has Empire NYS, both approved. I would recommend Dr. Tex and his staff.
I went to see Dr.Teixeira on Oct 30, he was soft spoken and very informative in answering my questions with a smile. Also explained the pros and cons of the surgery and what surgery would be best in my case. They have an aftercare program that will require visits for 2 years to monitor progress and work hand in hand with a nutritionist on needed supplements to maintain good health. His staff was also very helpful in setting future appointments, I would recommend Dr.Teixeira to anyone considering surgery...
Firstly, Dr. Texiera is no longer in Valhalla. I had him at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, NY. He was informative, very patient and cared about establishing a good working relationship with his patients. My impressions have gotten even better since my first meeting in April/2001. I am quite comfortable talking to him about anything and I feel confident with his treatment. His office staff is "human". They are just starting to get more organized because they are new and so is Dr. Texiera. They were polite at all times but a little disorganized. I have seen improvement over time. Dr. Texiera stresses aftercare. I had to see him one week following surgery. My first day home I contacted him and he returned my call and assisted me immediately. He also called me over the week-end to check on me. He is a great Dr. Surgical competence is definitely better but I would require both surgical competence and appropriate bedside manners. They both come with the job.
