My Surgery was on 12/27/04 and Dr. Aranow was mt surgeon.
I had met him a year and a half prior to my surgery as he performed an emergency surgery on my Mother that ended up saving her life. (THANK YOU, Dr. Aranow).
I was glad when he would be my surgeon. He has a great bedside manner and a "this is what I need you to do" attitude. In other words, if you dont do what he says and you didnt hold up your end of the deal, he may say.. well, you know.
I have read his reviews and everything I could prior to surgery and I knew I would be in great hands. Of course, he let me know the bad stuff that could happen but I never once felt like it could happen unless ALL routes were previously taken by Dr. A and his surgical staff!
Dr. A's office staff is wonderful, I have no complaints to this day and I have dealt with them off and on for various appointments and scheduling over the past year.
On a scale from 1-10, I would rate Dr. A a 12.5! To anyone considering this surgery, take the time to research Dr. Aranow.. you will not be disappointed!

I do not have anything bad to say about Dr. Aranow.. except maybe there isnt enough time in his day!

i went to his seminar dec 15 and i brought my mother with me to ease her. she doent like the fact that this is what i want. there wasnt alot of people there that night and when he got there he was very polite, funny and very cute. my mother couldnt believe how young he was. he talked about everything and was very honest with everyones questions. he handed this folder to take home with lots of information to fill out and read. ive been researching wls for years and i feel really comfortable with dr arronow, i brought my mother so she could see the surgeon and get to know the what and why things happen before and after surgery. my next step is an appt in febuary and i cant wait meet him face to face and my mother is goning to that too.

My first impression of Dr. Aranow was wow! this guy is confident. From that moment on he reins you in. He seems to really believe in what he is doing. When we met for a consult he had a great sense of humor and seemed to sense the kind of people me and my husband are. (very silly) Anyway, I am in the pre-surgical stages now, meeting with Psych., Dietician and attending support groups. I would recommend him simply on bedside manner, however considering he is the most experienced surgeon in the State when it comes to this surgery I would say you are in good hands. I would just be prepared to wait in his waiting room before your appointments, he is very busy. This was my impressions only, your experiences may differ.

My first impression of Dr. Aranow occurred at his introductory seminar. I'm a veteran of medical/scientific conferences and his presentation and command of the topic was exemplary. He possessed confidence, honesty and a bit of charm.

Over time my impression did not change much. I had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time with him post surgery. Although quite busy, he was kind, patient, and fairly humorous.

His staff is busy, but they are terrific people. It is my understanding that they intend to hire additional individuals soon. That will make a big difference!

Overall, I am pleased with my decision to have Dr. Aranow perform my surgery and would make the same choice again.

My first impression of Dr. Aranow was that he was very self-assured, almost to the point of "cockiness". This is not a negative for me because I want this attitude in someone who is going to put me "under the knife"!! He obviously believes in what he is doing and his enthusiasm is contagious. Over time I came to realize that despite his "cockiness", he is a caring doctor who will listen to your concerns and address them. His office staff is wonderful despite the fact that they are extremely busy. They are not always easy to reach on the phone, but once you, do they are very caring and helpful. Dr A did not underplay the risks involved with this surgery and gave me ample opportunity to "back out". Even when he met me on the morning of my surgery,he gave me one more chance to change my mind. He wants his patients to be as committed as he is! The only negative I found in dealing with Dr. Aranow is that he is very busy which means that you don't get as much of his time as you would like although you do get what you need. Do not expect to be "coddled" by him, however, because he is as demanding of his patients as he is of himself. He expects you to make the effort to follow his program or else he will not perform the surgery. This is to your advantage, because he is "obsessed" with safety and wants to give you the best chance for success. He provides a first-class aftercare program and expects you to participate in it. His support staff and the support groups he provides are very sound. He and his staff are always there for you despite their busy schedules. I must warn prospective patients that this is a long, sometimes frustrating journey, but it is worth the wait if you are really committed to change your life. I could not recomend Dr Aranow more highly. He is a fine surgeon who truly believes in what he is doing!

After meeting with Dr Aranow I found him to be very pleasant and very straight forward. We discussed the different procedures and the risks and benefits of each. He let me choose what I felt was right for me and my particular weight issues. I believe he is great choice to perform my surgery and I feel very confident in his skills.

upon meeting Dr. Arenow your first reaction is WOW....he is young...How can he be qualified? You soon learn...he is a skilled Dr. From his informed office staff....Very friendly too....to his No Nonsence attitude..you appreciate the overall program you are about to be processed thru. The process is relitively long...but very complete

My surgery was performed by Dr. Jonathan Aranow at Middlesex Hospital. My first impression was that he seemed very young and also a bit cocky, but very knowledgable and professional. He holds a powerpoint presentation for prospective patients and from that point to the date of the surgery was nearly 10 months. He makes the patient go through a very rigorous screening before he will agree to do the surgery. As trying as this was, the upside was that by the time I had the surgery, I was extremely well-prepared. His office staff is extremely friendly and professional. I am fourteen weeks post-op and have had two appointments with the surgeon since the surgery. I have a third appointment coming up in December of 2004 and I will also be meeting with the Nutritionist and the psychologist.

He is very professional, yet caring. he is a straight shooter. My impression has changed slightly to now include that he understands the fears I have toward this step. He has set up this process in phases outlined to decrease my anxiety. His office staff is very busy but still friendly and professional. One of them is even a comedienne. He is a little abrupt and a little arrogant which may turn someone off but I actually appreciate that because it tells me he earned the right to be confident in his skills. I want someone very sure of his skills. He is a staunch supporter of pre and post op care as evidenced by his advocacy for me to attend support group meetings, some mandatory. He also has a multidisciplinary team that works with him. The whole process broken down step by step. He is very upfront about surgical risks and wants to do whatever is necessary to lower my risk level. So far, I rate him a 8 on a ten point scale. I believe surgical competence and a great bedside manner makes a surgeon practically perfect, but I'll take a highly competent asshole over an average or good surgeon with a great bedside manner anyday. I am there to come through my surgery alive and well and put off, than hurting and angry, yet feeling guilty for being upset with someone whose bedside manner is great.
