My first impression of DR. Aranow was that he was very knowledgable about what he does as a bariatric surgeon, this was at the seminar about the gastric banding and bypass. My first meeting with him in his office was, well a little surprising from the last time. He seemed to be overly sure of himself but he did know what the patient needed. Cocky one minute, professional the next. The day I was having my surgey I asked him a question about the gastric bypass. I said my other Dr told me something and I asked if it were true. He stated \"no he's stupid\", then lightly appologized after reading my chart and then said I'll see ya in the operating room. Did I want this man operating on me after he insulted my other Dr? Probably not but I was so set on having this surgery that was going to help change my life for the better, I pretty much had to brush that off after looking at my husband and asking him \"did he just say what I thought he said? Yep! After surgery it was short brief visits at the hospital. Nothing more. His office staff were and still are great! Helpful and concerned. I least like about him would be, needing to be right all of the time because as he has stated to me many times \"it's not my fault this has never happened to me before\". Future patients should know \"EVERYONE\" makes mistakes no matter who you are or what you do proffesionally or personally. Going to see him for follow ups were much better! Recently, He will come in, read my chart, talks to me and finds out what my needs are and where are we going from here. How am I doing? etc. After care is a must, not big on telling me to go to the support groups right now. Who knows anymore, now he comes into the room says HI, then plugs in his laptop and begins typing. I might get a word in or two. If I interupt him he gets a little \"out of place\". He did go over the risks of the surgery but wanted to make sure I was ok with my being sober and drug free for 4 years at that time. Wich I thought was good being that eating is an addiction too. How would I rate him overall? That's pretty hard to say right now. I'm going through some medical issues with him from possibly the surgery. I have gallstones and well, I can't figure why he needs to do exploratory surgery for that. So my rating, if it were to be 1 out of 10 I would probably give him a 5 right now. We'll see what happens later. I'm not sure which is better, his surgical competance, his bedside manner or both are great? I can't answer that right now.

When I first met Doc Aranow I knew that he had it going on. Either that or he talked a good game. From the start I enjoyed his personality and found him to knowledgable and thoughtful. I have done my research and do not need to check into any other docs, I like him. This is all I have for now, my personal visit is coming up next week.

Doctor Aranow is always professional and confident, every time I meet with him he is the same and very informative. The office staff is helpful and always ready to answer your questions. I have not had any problems with the doctor ar his staff. Any post surgical care that I have had in the 6 months since my day of surgery has been excellent. Having a dietitian on staff helps a great deal and they are always available in needed. Doctor Aranow was information before the surgery and explained the risks at length during the seminar and before I was escorted into the operating room. I would rate him as the best in the state of Connecticut and his program is A+. The only cpmplaint I have was the last day in the hospital and nursing staff was either to short handed or just forgetful.

My first impression was he is very serious but at the same time a nice doctor!my impression did not change with time. His office staff is wonderful and helpful but also very busy, what i guess i could say i liked least would be he was always to busy to really just talk to not in bad way just surgeries etc...future patients should know that he is a great doctor and he knows what he is doing i wouldnt have trusted my life with any other doctor but him,he emphasize BEFORE and AFTERCARE very strongly he is a stickler for making sure you do what you need to be doing , and that is why his patients never have complications.Yes he did address the risks of surgery and he did so in a professional but honest manner to the point i wanted to puke thinking about it but it's the truth and you need to know it without someone sugarcoating it!!Overall i would rate him a 10- he is an excellent doctor with a wonderful staff i would do it all over agian and recommend him to any of my friends or family!!!!!!As for which is better surgical competence or bedside manner his surgical competence takes the cake just because he is very smart and well aware of what he is doing as for his bedside manner that is also fine he came to see me every day i was in the hospital and he was genuine and kind!!!!

I had a great impression of Dr. Aranow the first moment I met him. Some people do think he may be a little obnoxious. Even though this may be a first impression by most people, I soon realized that this is not the case. He takes his profession seriously and performs the surgeries for the right reasons, for health and quality of life and not for vanity. I truly believe that I had THE BEST gastric bypass surgeon in the U.S. His staff is caring, encouraging, and compassionate. The entire program from pre-op to post-op and beyond is quite incredible because it does not end after surgery. There is support available for life if you choose to use it with support groups, dietician support, and psychiatric support. I was well aware of the risks involved up to the minute I was taken to the operating room. To put it bluntly, he told me I could die, this is a small chance, but it could happen. He told me I could walk right out of the O.R and he would not blame me or get mad if I had doubts and changed my mind. A word of caution, follow his direction to the letter. If he wants you to lose 20 pounds before surgery, lose 25 or 30. If he wants you to be smoke free 30 days prior, you better do it or the surgery will NOT take place. I cannot thank him enough for \"kicking my butt\" into shape to make sure I followed his program and I cannot thank him enough for giving me a new life. The best benefit I received from this surgery was not physical, but emotional. It changed me on the inside, changes that happend on the outside was just a plus.

He is the best. End of discussion. There is no one else in my mind....
