John Daly Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
I have not met anyone at Dr. Waits office yet, but from all the research done, I think that I have made the right choice for a surgeon. I got a chance to speak with Karen, and she was very pleasant. I have a consultation date for 9/10/01. WOW! I got a chance to meet Dr. Waits and some of his staff. They were everything I expected. I must say this to all of you newcomers though, PLEASE make sure you send in your information packet back via mail as soon as you get it, and make sure you follow all instructions to the T. I personaly had a wonderful experience, but two others did not follow instructions.(need I say more) Dr. Waits was very informative about all surgeries, and explained thoroughly why he chose to do the Open RNY. Looking forward to support group meeting.

Well we all know what happened the day after my visit with Dr. Waits. I did not get approved for the surgery, due to the all the changes that took place with my insurance carriers. I recently had a visit with Dr. Daly, whom I feel is the correct surgeon for me. He was very honest and he made me feel as though there is hope!
November 21,2002
I had my final visit with Dr. Daly before surgery. He was GREAT! I love his approach, and he is to the point in reference to the odds, etc. I could have not chosen a better surgeon. Tammy is the BOMB! She has been great and I just absolutely love her.
10/29/02 UPDATE EVERYONE "I GOT MY DATE" NOVEMBER 26!! THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT AND THANK YOU GOD FOR THE VICTORY!! I GUESS IT'S NO THANKSGIVING DINNER FOR ME!!
10/25/02 I WAS RE-APPROVED TODAY THROUGH DR. DALY, IT ONLY TOOK THREE DAYS ONCE THE UHC FINALLY GOT EVERYTHING THEY NEEDED. CAROLYN, DR. DALY ASSISTANT IS SO NICE COMPARED TO DR. DUNCAN OFFICE. SHE STAYS UP ON THINGS.
10/15/02 I've decided to change surgeons because Dr. Duncan office gave me a surgery date in March 3, 2003, I really would like to have it done this year. I met Dr. Daly on 10-15-02 and really thought he was very direct and to the point,I did like the fact he gave you eye to eye contact. He also told me he schedules 3 to 4 weeks out, which I really appreciated.
10/11/02 I GOT A SURGERY DATE OF 3/3/03 OF NEXT YEAR. I CAN'T BELIEVE I WAS SCHEDULED SO FAR AWAY. I MAY HAVE TO CHANGE SURGEONS BECAUSE MY INS. COMPANY, WILL CHANGE NEXT YEAR EFFECTIVE JAN 1ST.
10/03/02 I was officially APPROVED today. Thank God!!!!!
9/16/02-Great news everyone, I just found out my letter went out to the insurance company this morning, please pray for me!!!!!THANK YOU JESUS!!!!!!!!!
9/10/02 I met with Dr. Santivicca he was very nice I had to wait about a hour to see him but after that everythIng went very smoothly. I had to take a test which asks you alot of questions my advice is to not to tell all of your business because it seems to it may be used against you when he writes up his report so be very careful,If not he may just say you might need to continue to see him. ok
he is a GOD SEND. one of the best surgeons and nicest office staff i have ever met. being a nurse now for 10 years and having all the medical probs i had before surgery it takes alot to impress me when it comes to a doctor. sometimes i wait to see him for over 2 hours but he is worth it. he is very thorough and likes to check up with you at 1 wk, 4 wks, and 3 months, and 5 months soo far now and that is great, it shows he is concerned for your well being and progress. he has all kind of info about aftercare and even referred me to a support group in my area which is invaluable to me. he is very straight with you and tells you the truth always especially concerning risks of surgery and risks of not having surgery. he is a 15 on a scale of 1-10!!!!!!! he is excellent and compassionate and you would love him. feel free to contact him and tell him i referred you. (404) 252-0433 Tami-or PAM--- lots of love--DEB MARTINEZ
I thought that Dr. Daly was very professional and very knowledgable. He was very easy to talk to and answered all of my questions without rushing me. I feel very confidant in my choice of surgeons!
He informed me of the surgery and all of it's risks, support groups (Yes, he mentioned this website), surgical procedures, and aftercare.
His staff was very friendly and informative as well. Carolyn said that I can call her anytime to check on my insurance and it wouldn't be a bother.
Overall I would rate him a nine, because nobody is perfect!!
First impression of Dr. Daly - I knew him slightly on a professional basis and was neither impressed nor unimpressed by him.
Second impression of Dr. Daly - 1st office visit. I fell for his program, including him as surgeon, hook, line and sinker. He spent alot of time going over statistics, risks, and after-care. If you feel you can't follow his post-operative regime, he isn't interested in you as a candidate.
Office manager Tammy - Completely efficient.
Surgical Competence is the most important aspect of this surgery. There are way too many potential risks concerning abdominal surgery to worry too much about bedside manner. It is nice when you can have both, though.
He is very confident in what he does - which makes me more confident! His office staff is great and is always helpful. What I liked least about Dr. Daly is that he always seemed to be so busy, busy, busy & sometimes I just wanted him to hang around and answer ALL my questions & this was just my personal experience & perhaps I wanted to be too time consuming! Overall, I think he is a really, really GOOD surgeon & very glad that that's who I went to for this surgery. He does an excellent job explaining everything before you have surgery and gives you a diet that he truely inteds on you sticking to post-op!
I met with Dr. Daly on Aug. 1st. He weighed me, got my BMI and told me I was an ideal candidate for LAP. He was brief and straight to the point. I submitted my diet history and my information from my PCP. He emphasizes that this surgery is not for cosmetic reasons and it forces you to change your lifestyle. He told me the risks, and what to do to prevent problems. I feel confident in his ability to perform this surgery, since he has done many and was trained at the Mayo Clinic.
My appt. w/Dr.Daly was smooth going. He is very knowledgeable and thorough. His staff is great and will go all out for the cause. Aftercare is emphasised by both Dr. Daly and his nurse. Especially the importance of sticking to the program as Dr.Daly instructs. Dr. Daly did address the risks of surgery (which I already knew) but he also addressed the risks of being morbidly obese.
I rate him a '9'.
I will speak on his surgical competence and bedside manners after 8/9/02.
i have'nt met him yet. my first consult will be 7/8. anyone with any thoughts on him please let me know. my personal email is [email protected] thanks, becky
7/10/02 well i had my first consult with dr daly today. he was very nice and patient with my questions. he did'nt talk down to me at all, which was refreshing. he told me i was an ideal candidate for the surgery, especially the lap. though i do have to go back to my PCP and have a complete physical exam and bloodwork, and a psych exam. i made my appts for those and now i have to wait for the insurance. tammy was pleasant and his nurse was especially nice but tammy did'nt seem to hold out alot of hope that my insurance would approve the LAP procedure. she said that they have a hard time getting insurance companied to approve LAP with dr daly. i wish i had know that ahead of time. oh well all i can do know is wait and see.
Dr. John P. Daly MD FACS of Atlanta, GA. He was very professional and personable and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. He is sending out my paperwork and a letter to my insurance company. I am crossing my fingers that I will be approved soon. My insurance company does not require an psy evaluation or a sleep test. Not sure how I dodged those. The only negative so far is that I had to wait 50 minutes.
