John Daly Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Dr. Daly has dancing eyes and is so attractive you want to hear every word he says. His staff is knowledgeable and so reassuring, that it pout my right at ease. I had to sign promises to him about maintaining my participation in a support group, the foods I wouldn't eat, the exercise I will do and a host of other items which dove home his commitment to long term success.rnI was banded on Dec 3 2009 and this is Dec 6, 2009 so I am still in pain and have no further knowledge of his aftercare program. He came so highly recommended that I was happy he agreed to band me. I feel like I have had the best.
He is nice but you can tell he has done this a lot because he sounded like a recording when he was tell me about how many surgeries etc...rnrnMy impression of him hasn't changed yet I only met with him once. I guess I will find out after or when I get approvedrnrnTammie is very knowledgeable and helpful. She is kind and willing to take the time to help.rnrnI like least is the 2500 payment that you have to give up front for after care.rnrnThat he charges 2500 for rny and 2000 for lap band for after care.rnrnAfter care is emphazied due to the fee you will have to pay for it.rnrnYes but you have to pay for it.rnrnI don't rememberrnrnNot, sure cannot judge after first meeting.rnrnThe better of the 2 is surgical competence. Bedside Manner is not necessary.
WARNING--I am a little biased. I have managed a doctors office from many positions, I have also been in healthcare for about 15 years. My first impression of Dr. Daly was mixed. When he walked in the room, I felt that I could talk to him about most anything. He did tell me a few things about the RNY. He asked which surgery I had considered. He was encouraging. The staff (Tammy) was wonderful! rnI have a HUGE problem with the office wait. My appointment was at 4pm. When I walked into the waiting room, it was full. Keep in mind that there are only about 20 NON FAT PEOPLE chairs. I had filled out all the necessary paperwork prior to my first visit and still had an HOUR AND A HALF WAIT! There were people being seen (presumably not just WLS) that had appointments at 2:30. The back office staff didn't weigh me or take a blood pressure...isn't that a standard? There were 2 patients that had just had the Lap Band - both said that Dr. Daly is worth the wait, but couldn't really explain why....he was cute - but not enough to wait that long...LOL!rnSo far, I will be cash pay. He told me of what was included in the price, etc. He also runs his own support group, I thought that was neat.rnI don't want to rate Dr. Daly yet, especially since I've only seen him once. Besides, based on the above comments, it might not be good.rnI want a doctor with superior bedside manner and surgical competence.... I think that Dr. Daly has both of these - he's only had 2 patients pass away and that wasn't his fault (one didn't comply with aftercare, don't remember the other). I'm sticking with him so far, for several reasons: confidence, competence, personality and aftercare.rnrn
Very smart and honest.rnHas not changedrnOffice staff is top notch, Tammy is great.rnDid not spend anytime with me before surgery (at hospital) and only dropped by to discharge me for a quick \"do this, don't do that\" and bye.rnCharges a fee for his aftercare program.rnVery honest about what to expect and what can happen.rnI think he is a very strong competent surgeon and highly recommend him.rnI think surgical competence is more important, I want a doctor who can deal with any thing that can happen and I believe that Dr. Daly is that surgern.
I am pre-surgery and have had only the initial appointment with Dr. Daly. He is a general surgeon and is highly recommended for the bariatric procedures. For my initial appointment I had a long wait (over an hour), for which there was no explanation or apology. Although he appeared to not be one for small talk, he provided a detailed description of the procedure and his program; covering the good, the bad, and the ugly. He descirbed the risks and benefits, and defined what I would be required to do. What impressed me was the aftercare aspect and how he is accessible to the patients. rnrnHis staff are exemplary and have already provided top-notch assistance, guiding me patiently and promptly through all my clearance exams. rnrnI am in the insurance review process and will have to wait until post-surgery to update the surgery experience.rnrnUpdate (1/4/08): Tammy from Dr. Daly's office called me the same day that she received the insurance approval letter. She coordinated the surgery date (2/6) & final details in less than a week.
My first impression of him was just a confident, caring person who understood me.rnrnHis staff is wonderful and helpfulrnrnHe is an awesome choice, I live in Greenville SC and I am going all the way to see him in Atlanta GArnrnHas a very structured aftercare and lots of supportrnrnadressed the risks of surgery and was very patient explaining to my husband why it was important for mernrnI give him 5 of 5 starsrnrngreat bedside manner so far
