John Baker Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

I called Dr. Baker's office the first of April to inquire about this surgery. On the 3rd of May I was in his office meeting with him and had my surgery the next morning. I think his office staff did a great job getting all my paperwork processed so quickly. Anytime I have had a question regarding my surgery, recovery or the billing I have e-mailed his staff and have gotten a prompt response. Dr. Baker is VERY thorough in making sure you know what you are doing and what the consequences are going to be. It is a LIFE time change,not just until you get the weight off. His explanation of the surgery is very helpful in understanding what all will take place during surgery and what complications are possible. He is very well known and respected among the hospital staff at Baptist Medical Center. I am very grateful to have had him as my surgeon and have recommended him to two of my friends who have dates in October to have surgery. He is a 10 in my book.

I've read nothing but good about Dr. Baker since I began learning about WLS. I met with Dr. Baker for my pre-op consult on July 17, and had surgery on July 20 (2000).

I will meet Dr. Baker for the first time on July 11th. Michelle and Becky from his staff have been great, and ever so helpful. His web site supplied a lot of useful information.

Dr. Baker is a committed, caring surgeon.
He will make you examine why you want the surgery and what you are going to do to make sure that you succeed. He has the surgery down to a fine art. There were NO drains used on me, and the scar is VERY small. He shows personalized care for his patients. Each case is treated as a one on one situation. The office staff is accessible and friendly. I've never known ANY doctor and staff like this one.

Dr Baker is an excellent surgeon and physician. He was very nice from the very beginning and have always addressed my concerns. His office staff is great. They are very patient and professional. Lauren has always gone above and beyond to help me with my concerns. I would recommend him to anyone.

Well, I like Dr. Baker you can tell he cares about you even if he dose scare you and, make you wonder if this is realy what you want to do. He realy emphazizes the fact that you have to make a lot of changes in your life like,your eating habits and exercise. Altogether he seems to be very nice and realy seems to care about his patients that they get the best care he can give them. He's very thourough. The thing I didn't much care for was he ask me question's that I knew what I wanted to say but didn't know how to say it.I'm Shy and easily Intimidated and even though he didn't mean to he intimidated me.

Well I've had my surgery and, DR.Baker was great I would recomend him to anyone.

I met with Dr. Baker for my first consult today. It was a little awkward at first, but after he started explaining what was planned, I felt much more comfortable. My husband went to my consult with me and Dr. Baker welcomed him and all questions we could think of. His office staff is wonderful! They make you feel so welcome and are very supportive. He really emphasized aftercare during our consult, explaining that it was a LIFETIME change. He explained the risks of surgery very thoroughly also. I am really looking forward to my surgery on Thursday, March 16th...Just 3 days away!

12/18/99 - Met with Dr Baker. I had expected him to be harsher than he actually was. He wasn't. I liked him a lot. We went over lots of things and I was weighed and had my BEFORE picture taken. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 28.

My first impression of Dr. Baker was that he was very serious. My impression has not changed. His office staff and that of the Bariatric Clinic are very helpful. Future patients should know that he is an excellent surgeon who makes you think. Aftercare is strictly enforced. Dr. Baker made the risks very clear to me. He does not sugar-coat the risks. To me surgical competence is more important than bedside manner.

On first impression, Dr. Baker was a very serious man, asking a bunch of serious questions. I did find him a bit intimidating, but he does this for a reason, he CARES about us, the patient. He is competent, explains things to a tee, very meticulous in his work, and actually does have a good sense of humor. His office staff is very kind and quick to return calls. I was well pleased. I would highly recommend Dr. Baker as your bariatric surgeon. He is also great with aftercare and asks questions and sits down and spends time with you.
