John Baker Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.
The day finally came to have my consult. Boy was I nervous. I think I feared the consult more than the actual surgery. He has a reputation for being one tough cookie. When I got to meet Dr. Baker I found him to be a very caring person whom is sincere. He truly wants the best for his patients. He was very thorough and explained all the benefits and risks of the surgery, the good, the bad and the ugly. If you are still having second thoughts don't go. If you are sure, and have made up your mind and this is the route for you, he will be behind you 110%. His office staff is EXCELLENT. They are there for you at any time. I will do and update after my surgery which is in 6 days.
I had my visit with Dr. Baker today and all I can say is that he was GREAT! I expected him to be really gruff and "mean" after reading other's opinions. That couldn't have been farther from the truth. He was informative, compasionate, and very very knowledgeable. I am so glad that he is my surgeon. If you aren't serious about a life style change, DON'T USE HIM. I give him two thumbs UP!!!!!!
I met with Dr. Baker today and he is wonderful. I was a bit nervous about meeting him since I had heard that he was a tough cookie. He really makes you think about yourself and your life style. He answered every question that I had. I think he is a very compitent surgeon, and I would recommend him to anyone who is going to have the surgery. Angel*
HE KIND OF MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE A FOOL FOR BEING OVER WEIGHT ON THE FIRST VISIT. HE DOESN'T GIVE YOU MUCH HOPE ABOUT THE SURGERY AND ALMOST TALKS YOU OUT OF HAVING IT DONE. I WANTED TO HEAR POSITIVE THINGS, AFTER ALL, I WENT TO HIM FOR DESPERATE HELP. BUT HE IS ONE OF THE BEST, SO I JUST GRINNED AND PUT UP WITH THE DEMONSTRATION HE SHOWS YOU INITIALLY. BAPTIST HOSP. IN LITTLE ROCK HAS AWESOME NURSES. I KNOW THE DOCTOR HAS TO SHOW YOU THE RISKS AND ALL BUT I WOULD HAVE FELT BETTER ABOUT THE SURGERY IF HE MADE ME FEEL GOOD ABOUT THE DECISION OF HAVING IT DONE. HE'S GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES THOUGH SO I REALLY CAN'T COMPLAIN.
I haven't actually met Dr. Baker yet. My consultation is scheduled for Thursday, March 15th (one week from now). I have heard that Dr. Baker is a wonderful doctor. One of the best, in fact. I have heard from other patients that while Dr. Baker is a nice man in general, he gets tough on you during your consult about why you are where you are and I have to admit I am very nervous about my consult. I think that while surgical competence would have to outweigh bedside manner, I do like for a doctor to have both.
I had my surgery 29Jan01, at Baptist Medical Center, by John Baker. I would recommend him to you if you are serious about changing the style and character of your life. The surgery is one of the first steps of making that change, and the entire staff of Baker's practice is there to assist you in your efforts, before AND after the surgery itself.
Baker's website, www.obesity-surgery.net is packed with great information and links, and I suggest you explore it thoroughly. Even if you end up not using Baker, you can benefit from the information found there.
As most other patients using Dr. Baker, I will start out saying - I haven't met him yet, but...
His staff is out of this world. Becky and Michele have been so encouraging. I did email Dr. Baker about some questions, and he responded in an hour and forty-five minutes. So far, I think he is outstanding!
I met Dr. Baker for my consult on March 2nd. He is an amazing person. He was very friendly, but also straight forward. Some of the things he asked and said really hit home. He was able to make me realize some things about myself that I had never even considered. No one will ever be able to convience me that he is not 100% sincere. Never in a million years would I beleive that he is in this for the money. He cares about his patients.
He was very nice to me. I would recommend him to anyone that is considering this type of surgery. His office staff is fantastic. Don't use Dr. Baker if you are looking for an easy "fix" and do not want to make any changes in your lifestyle. His bedside manner and his surgical skills are both the best. Do what he tells you, he knows what he is talking about.
Dr. John W. Baker is a highly skilled and knowledgable surgeon with excellent statistics. I was impressed with the time he took on my first consult, and his insite into causes of morbid obesity. He helped me to face myself, and my ugly habits. He is available to his patients as needed. His office staff is excellent and always ready and promptly helps in every way they can. He gives of himself 100% and expects the same from me. He said he would follow my progress as long as I kept comming back. (However many years that might be). His dietitian calls and checks on me to see how my dietary regimen is going and exercise. He thoroughly explained the surgery using a computer slide presentation on a one to one basis. I got to ask questions and he answered them all. He explained the risks and the benefits.
