I had surgery with Dr. Lord in Dec 2004, when he was still in Portsmouth VA. It took 2 years waiting to get my surgery, and lots of frustration getting there. But the surgery has been a godsend, and I have suffered NO complications to date due to the wonderful preparation Dr. Lord & Jan Carlo gave me. I'm now 21 months out, 140 lbs down, and ready to visit a plastic surgeon on the 9-11. My life has been turned around, and I simply can't thank them enough!
I am from Chesapeake, VA, and I was in a transition situation with Chanpus and funding my sergury... Along comes Jan Carlo who interviewed me via telephone and we set up an appointment to see Dr Lord... I mean to tell you that seeing Dr Lord was the best thing that I could ever do for myself..rnHe not only has bed side manors but he has the knowledge, Extensive knowledge in his prefesion and I trusted him with my life. I started at 309 and at this moment, Im 198 after a year and a half... Not bad you think? rnrnDr Lord bent over backwords to help me and now, Im telling him how I feel... We talked just before he left the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth and I gave him my permission to air my photos before and after...rnrnThere is nothing that I like least about Dr Lord, none at all..rnVery profesional and in sync with the situation...rnrnJoe Winslowrnrn
I went to a seminar held by Dr. Lord and found him very personable, kind, with a sincere desire to help the obese who really needed help. I have known him over a year now, had surgery and have only good things to say about him and his staff here at Sacred Heart Hospital.rnrnDr. Lord and his staff offer plenty of teaching, and give you everything you need to make a well informed decision. I call the nutrionist whenever I have questions and she is very very helpful, friendly and professional. Dr Lord and his staff are top notch and each were hand picked. rnrnHis surgical skills and bedside manner are the best. My 2 hr surgery ran into overtime for a total of 4 hrs because of so much scar tissue in the area but he did what needed to be done. A lesser Dr may have taken shortcuts, but not Dr. Lord, he will do it right the first time. rnrnMy wife is a nurse and although she didn't say anything negative, she was reserving judgement on Dr Lord. By the time my surgery was done and I was doing good she was convinced he is a very good doctor. Thank God for Dr. Lord!rnrn*******
Dr. Lord is a God sent... My first impression was, wow this man is confident; and that makes me feel great. When we went to our consultation, he was very personable and explained exactly what would take place. He has a way that make you feel safe, and I think that says a lot about his character. The before care and help is great, the staff helps you throughout the process so that nothing gets left out. You are made to feel as if you are the only patient in the world. The program is top notch and I am glad that I went to that first seminar.
My first impression of Dr. Lord was that he was very confident and foward about this surgery and his ability. My impression has not changed at all. Dr. Lord's staff is wonderful, everyone I have met in his office is exceptionally kind and real, making sure that everything is taken care of in a timely manner and that you have as much information as they can possibly pass on to you. At this time there is nothing that I do not like about him or any member of his staff. Dr. Lord is very blunt about the sugery, how much effort is required on your part to not revert afterward, and sure of his abilities. Dr. Lord likes to keep up with his patients for years after surgery and has support groups to attend on a regular basis, his staff is always available for any questions or concerns before and after. Dr. Lord was very upfront about the risks of this surgery, and requires all patients to attend a seminar before your first appointment with him. Overall I find his surgical confidence and bedside manner, as well as that of his staff to be great.
I attended a seminar that Dr. Lord was conducting about bariatric surgery--he answered all questions even though the seminar time had run out. He is extremely thorough. All of the staff are wonderful--very helpful. Any time I called with a question I have gotten prompt response. If there is a question about diet--I like that I can call or e-mail the dietitician at any time. I would recommend Dr. Lord to anyone considering bariatric surgery. He is a surgeon who talks to you as a person, makes sure you understand the risks and benefits of bariatric surgery and makes sure that you are making an informed choice. He focuses not only on having the surgery itself -but the importance of aftercare---protein intake, fluid intake, exercise, vitamin supplements, etc. The notebook with info about diet, supplements, etc. was extremely helpful. rn With a surgeon I believe surgical competence would be better. Dr. Lord, fortunately, has both surgical competence and a terrific bedside manner. I told him the other day that this was the best decision I've ever made. For me, being a patient under the care of Dr. Lord and the bariatric staff has been nothing but a positive and rewarding experience.
