I am 4 days pre-op so my frame of reference is limited. Dr. Scott was pretty busy on the day that I initially met him, but I admired his professionalism and interest in providing me with necessary information regarding my procedure.

I he is now in st.louis part of the new start team!!!!!!!! yah for me!!

Dr Scott is very sharp,he did the who seminar when the equipment failed with just pen and pad. He even drew pictures better than a slide. He was funny, informative and thorough with his presentation. I just had to request him a my surgeon.

I had all of my pre-op testing done on April 12 at the Midwest Bariatric Center. I met with Dr. Scott. I liked him very much;very precise and helpful. He didn't pull any punches and was completely honest about the risks of this procedure. He explained the procedure very thoroughly step by step. I feel very compfortable with the decision I have made. His staff was wonderful (especially his nurse Janet), the hospital staff was great and so helpful. Everyone was as kind and comforting as could be. The psych evaluation was not as frightening as I thought it would be...some of the questions seem rather silly, really. Everyone who talked to me encouraged me to participate in the support and nutrition classes before and after the surgery. I feel much better about this surgery since my visit.

I think he is a master of his craft, however 3 years ago his bedside manner was lacking. His office staff other than Janet (no longer with him) was nice although not very educated in gastric bypass surgery. I have made it a point to attend support group at least once a month,in the first year I attended weekly. If there is one thing I would like to see the surgeons who perform this surgery do more often is push there pre-op and post-op patients to attend support group as though it were as important to there weightloss as the surgery itself.

First Impression - Professional, complete, honest.
My impressions hasn't changed over time.
His office staff can be very busy and hurried.
Not "liked least" qualities
He is honest and truthful. This surgery alone isn't the whole picture.
Aftercare as throuough but sometimes hard to get in touch with him.
I was not available for aftercare.
Completely explained the risk involved.
Overall rating 8.
I think surgical competence is best. Nice guys can flub up. Compentent surgeons are that.

I LIKED DR. MITCHELL WHEN I FIRST MET WITH HIM. THE PEOPLE IN HIS OFFICE WERE EXTREMELY HELPFUL WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY. I DO WISH HE WERE ABLE TO DO THE LAP, BUT WAS WILLING TO DO WHAT I NEED TO DO TO GET THINGS DONE.
I did switch doctor's after I ad my gallbladder surgery. I switched to Dr. Stephen Scott i Wentzville, Mo. He did my gallbladder surgery, and then later my hernia repair and tummy tuck. I absoutely love him. He was wonderful. He hasa super support group each week which I so appreciate. The support group has keptme in the right direction.

I haven't seen Dr. Scott yet, but have spoken to his office staff, Janet Duce. She has been very helpful, and although busy, seems always to have the time to talk to me.

I had my first visit with Dr. Scott. I had read from others that he doesn't have much of a personality, but he seemed fine to me. Maybe it was because I wasn't expecting very much. Janet was very helpful in helping the insurance process, but it seemed like it took forever. I was pretty certain I would be approved, but they wouldn't even schedule an office visit before I got approval. So once I FINALLY got approval, my surgery was scheduled for nearly 2 months from that time.

Dr. Scott and Janet both emphasized aftercare and being compliant with with insructions and recommendations. They do have a structured aftercare program, but I live too far away to take advantage of it. Future (or potential) patients should know that Dr. Scott had done hundreds of these procedure--over 600. Three hundred or so of them have been laparoscopic. He seems very calm, confident without being arrogant, and knowledgeable. I will post more on this after my surgery next week. While I do think that bedside manner is a good thing, I'm am definitely looking more for surgical competance.

I am nearly 2 years post-op, and lost over 100 pounds. I have maintained that with no problem. I hadn't been in contact with Dr. Scott for over a year, but had a question I figured only he could answer. I actually emailed him on his website, and received a reply THE NEXT DAY. That was followed by a phone conversation with him and a follow-up visit. I have NOTHING negative to say about him at all!! As far as I'm concerned, this man (and my therapist) saved my life! He continues to stress aftercare as a way of life, and I felt no less interest or concern from him because I am 2+ yearts post-op.

My surgeon practices in Wentzville, Missouri. His name is Dr. Scott, and he has a great associate, Dr. DeLaTorre also. They were very professional from the beginning, and also very helpful. Dr. DeLaTorre returned my letter via email, which I thought was very nice. Their office staff is also very, very nice and helpful. Plus, understanding when I would call daily to see if they had gotten word from my insurance company yet. Future patients will be glad to know they did a fantastic job on me. I was up and walking around in the ICU just a few hours after waking up. They did the surgery Laproscopically, and it was amazing that they could do so much to change my life in such small incisions. They were pretty strict with post surgery diets, but that was good. They were very specific of all of the risks involving this type of surgery. They took special time to go over it with me. The aftercare program is great, with a fantastic support group which is run by their program coordinator, Janet. She is fantastic and very helpful with any and all questions you might have. The hospital also was really good. I couldn't believe how much the staff tried to make my stay a good one. Every single person I came into contact with, from the admitting secretary, to the surgical team in the OR, the Lab and respiratory people also were fantastic. I couldn't recommend these doctors and this hospital enough to you all. If you really want someone who has invented some of the procedures they perform... If anyone wants to talk with me about them, I would be happy to do so... I have lost 135 pounds, the first 120 in the first six months.....Ok, I scanned down and they told me to say something negative, let me see.... I wasn't happy that they made me stay in the hospital for an extra day... I was fine, and I wanted to go home. I should have been able to make that decision myself...

I met with Dr De La Torre and it was a visit that I never would have expected. He did everything to talk me out of the surgery and make sure that I knew about all the risks. His staff has been very good and I really enjoy the support group meetings that they have once a week.
Dr Scott and De La Torre seem to be the best in their field when it comes to RNY. They have done 1200 lap procedures and have lost 7 patients. That is lower than the national statistic.
They do however run a tight ship. Their program is very strict and they expect you to follow it to the tee!
I would give the highest recomedation if anyone ever needed this procedure to Dr Scott and De la Torre.
