I attended a seminar given by Dr. Scott before I signed up with him and was very impressed. I have continued to be impressed with his surgical skills and thoroughness. His staff was kind and very professional. He seems to emphasize aftercare. He is VERY busy and has his partners do rounds often after surgery so I didn't see much of him in the hospital, but he has been available for office visits and took the time to talk to me about my concerns. He made the risks and benefits clear. He told me there is a risk but with my medical problems, I had more of a risk by not having the surgery. I had done extensive research so was able to talk intelligently to him about the procedure.

In all, I would highly recommend Dr. Scott. He's competent, energetic and seems to care. I didn't see much bedside manner to make a determination but his competence is highly renowned.

Dr. Scott is a wonderful surgeon! I would strongly recommend him to anyone. He is very personable and will take the time to answer any questions that you have. He is very thorough in his explanations. His office staff is also very friendly and helpful. It has been a pleasant experience dealing with them.

I honestly have not had any bad experience with them about anything.

My first impression was that he didn't seem like any other doctor I had gone to. He was wearing a Hawaiin shirt and dress pants with dress shoes. He looked nice, but not uptight, like most Dr.s. My impression has changed after talking with him or after surgery. I like that he is a more laid back personality even thought he doesn't take the surgery lightely. The office staff were ok. I liked his carefree attitude the most. Again, it wasn't not caring, in fact in was very "matter of fact", but it wasn't "judging." I would recommend Dr. Scott to anyone. He is very professional and has much experience. He does emphasize after care as "your responsibilty" and "very important." He will tell you "I'm giving you a tool to help you. I cannot do the work for you, you still have to do that yourself." All the information Dr. Scott gave me including all aspects of the surgery were straight forward and honest. I rate him as an excellant Dr.
I believe surgical competence is the most important in this field, but Dr. Scott has this and a great bedside manner.

Dr. J. Stephen Scott, although not the most personable doctor I've ever met, is in fact an excellent doctor. I was a higher risk patient due to previous stomach surgery I had about 11 years prior to my RNY surgery. I also had extensive scar tissue in my abdomen for him to deal with.

Dr. Scott was direct and even scary about my risks during surgery. He wanted me to absolutely know the risks I was up against. He planned a laparscopic RNY surgery, but was not sure he could do a lap because of my scar tissue. Should he not be able to perform the lap surgery, the plan was to perform it by way of open incision.

I was in the operating room approximately twice as long as the average lap patient, but Dr. Scott still successfully performed the RNY using lap.

Post surgical is that I feel great. When visiting Dr. Scott, he is professional, still very direct and honest about what's going on with me, and very brisk (mostly because he is extremely busy -- many patients waiting to see him.)

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Scott. After attending seminars put on by all of Newstart's surgeons, Dr. Scott is the one who I felt the most comfortable with. His presentations are the most informative and I came away from them with the feeling that I would be working with the best of the bunch.

There is very little that I could say negative about Dr. Scott or his office staff. I have been completly satisfied, both before and after surgery. He is very busy but always takes time to answer all my questions. He volunteers information and pays close attention to what his patients are saying. From the time I decided to have surgery until it was complete was only 7 months. I understand that some people wait as much as 2 or 3 years, depending on their insurance. Well I contribute my success to his good organizational staff. I can only hope as much for all of you.

I absolutely loved Dr. Scott. In all honesty though I didn't really get to see or talk to him much but he did an excellent job. As with all doctors he is very busy but he does take the time to answer your questions and he takes his job very seriously. He knows what he's doing. I felt very comfortable in trusting him even though I had only talked with him a couple of times before my surgery. He came in before surgery to talk to me and I vaguely remember seeing him immediately after surgery to tell me everything went fine. My husband liked him as well since he was the one who actually talked to him after surgery. He answered any questions my husband had for him when he gave him the update after surgery. He addressed all risks of the surgery and even made it a point to tell me that this was not a "quick fix". This is just the tool we need to lose the weight. We still have to take our food and exercise seriously if we want to lose the weight.

Dr Scott did my gallbladder surgery in 2/03. When I developed a hernia from the surgery he agreed to do WLS and the hernia repair when I received approvial from the insurance co. We talked about the surgery and I was able to ask question and we both felt very comfortable with going ahead once approved.

Called New Start and changed my surgeon to Dr. Scott because Dr. Fabito now does not do the Lap Band. OK I will eventually find the right one! LOL Hopefully this will be the right one.

I was contacted by New Start that I needed a referral from PCP for the insurance company. Went to see my PCP today and got the referral. Still on track. Still working towards the goal. Focused on the dream. I WILL NOT GIVE UP!!:-)

HE IS VERY NICE.OFFICE IS SOMEWHAT DISORGANIZED. HE EMPHASIZES AFTERCARE VERY MUCH, AND THEY HAVE A AFTERCARE PROGRAM IN PLACE. HE MENTIONED ALL THE RISKS OF SURGERY, INCLUDING THE RARE DEATH.

I met with Dr. Scott last week. I really like him. He explained to me that this surgery is real surgery and can be dangerous. Also that the surgery is not a magic wand but a tool to use to obtain a healthy weight. I will add to this after my surgery. But so far I have found Dr. Scott to be professional, kind and good humored. Everyone in his office that I have met so far is very nice and they have done everything that they can to accomodate me. Lenora the OR Scheduler and Chris Klittich the Nurse Cordinator are always quick to return my calls. And treat all my questions seriously. I like everyone in this practice.
