AT the time I had surgery Nov. 1999 Dr. Scott was one of the few Drs. in my area doing the surgery. There were good reviews of him on the site. I was more impressed with the office staff and the organization that helped me get through the process. The office staff was superb. Of course I have not been there since I am so long post surgery so I don't know the status now. Dr. de la Torre assisted with my surgery. Dr. Scott was kind and very informative, but really left the staff to do most of the follow up conversation and answering questions. He prescribed the diet and we were not to stray from it in any way. My sister had the same surgery RNY with Dr. Scott in April of 2000 and had the same good experience I did. I have since heard - whether right or wrong that he does not do surgery any more, but only teaches. I cannot confirm that however.
As of this date I haven't offically met Dr. Scott. I went to a seminar he gave in Columbia recently and I throughly enjoyed listening to him. I have read and heard nothing but "GOOD and POSITIVE" about Dr. Scott and Dr. de la Torre. I fell I am in the best hands available. I will update more after I have met him personally which is Oct. 6th, 2004
Oct. 7, 2004.......I met with Dr. Scott yesterday and I really like him. He was very informative and nice. He actualy listens when you are speaking to him. He looks you in the eye when you speak to him or he is speaking to you. I find this as an important indicator if someone is really listening to what you are saying. I now know after meeting Dr. Scott I have nothing to worry about, he will take excellent care of me.
I attended a NewStart Seminar where Dr. Scott was presenting info on RNY surgery and was very impressed with his detailed explainations. He seems like a very compasionate and knowledgeable surgeon. I am very happy that I have selected him as my surgeon. I feel confident that he is an expert in his field of work.
Since surgery, I have had 2 follow up visits with Dr. Scott. He is an excellent surgeon. He stresses the importance of follow up and has a set regimen that all of his patients must follow. His instructions are very percise and very direct. He appears to be very busy, but does not hesitate to address the patient's concerns. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Dr. Scott a 10+.
My Surgeon was great. I heard him speak at seminar, and then at the Obesity Help meeting in St. Louis. He seemed very knowledgeable and nice.
My consult was very short, but Dr. Scott got to the point and asked if I had any questions. Since I had done my homework, I really didn't have many. I believe he's the best surgeon around. Two girls in my dietitary consult group came from Kansas City to St. Louis to have Dr. Scott because they thought he was the best in the state. I believe so too, especially if you want it down LAP.
He does discuss the risks, but points out that obesity has many risks too. I liked it that he said the ability to lose weight wasn't my fault. Morbid obesity fights you to lose weight by going into some super starvation mode. For the first time in my life, someone told me it wasn't my fault. Boy that felt good.
He talked to me briefly the morning before surgery. He spoke with my family after surgery and was very nice. I saw his partner in the hospital, and didn't see him again until one week appointment.
If you want a doctor who will fall all over you, he's not it. But if you want the best in the operating room -- pick Dr. Scott. I felt great right after surgery, and it just gets better!
He very much stresses that you have to stick to the diet guidelines. He doesn't want you eating solids right away. He stresses that this is a tool, and the choices we make -- make a big difference.
I would rate Dr. Scott 10 out of 10.
However, he's moving to Columbia, but keeping his practice in Wentsville. So if you want him after September, call his Wentzville office.
I finally met Dr. Scott for a one on one consult. I had a chance to see his manner at the seminar. He was much the same in person straightforward, very honest and upfront. I liked his attitude and his beliefs on what the surgery is used for. I have known along that it is merely a tool but he really emphasized that it’s up to me where I'm going with it after the surgery. I really like him. He answered all my questions and was very patient with me even though I had a billion questions for him. His office staff were all very polite and helpful.
Dr Scott is an absolutely amazing surgeon, one of the absolute tops in his field! Very professional, and to the point about risks, and the procedure. He makes sure that you are fully aware of every aspect of this surgery even up until you go into the operating room. He is very eager to see you succeed, and is very thorough with his follow up visits. There were no surprises while dealing with him, and his seminars are very easily understood, and complete. I would recommend him highly.
