verv caring and very likable. My oppion has not changed. The office staff is very friendly and understanding. It's a little early yet. (I just had my surgery July 6th 2004) but so far I hav'nt found anything I dont like about him. They do Empasize being in a support group and I am trying to find one close to me ( within 10 mile radius of where I live.) I think that surical competence and good bedside manner help tremendously with any fear you might have.GO into it thinking positive.
My first impression of Dr. Farhan was a good one. He wasn't all that talkative but got right to the point. As I got to know him after surgery I really liked his professionalism but really appreciated his kindness. I had some complications after surgery and he was nothing but helpful and understanding. Since then he has performed my hernia surgery. Once again he did a fine job. He has a good sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye. I highly recommend him. I also liked Dr. Minasian. He is a very intelligent man. He is helpful and kind as well. The office staff was friendly. My only complaint is the waiting time in the lobby. I drive over an hour for my appointments then have to wait forever to get in to see the Dr. I also think that the aftercare follow-up program could be better. I think that surgical competence is most important. But I also feel it is so important to have someone who has emphathy as your surgeon. WLS is a highly emotional process, in most cases dealing with very sensitive issues with many years of heartache. You need a Dr. who makes you feel that you and your concerns matter.
Dr. Farhan is very educated and experienced with this type of surgery. He is a trained trama Dr. and explains everything in detail so there's no misunderstandings or misconceptions about the procedure. Most of the office employees has had the surgery and it't very encouragable to know that you can make it! Dr. maenassin is the other trama Dr. that is also very knowledgable about the procedure he is there to make sure that you are healthy enough to endure the procedure and he is there personally to talk with you during the pre admission testing. The risks of the surgery are always taken into consideration the Dr's both stress the importance of aftercare and walking. Knowing about the procedure is very helpful and can make a world of difference because you have a full understanding of what is going to occur during the procedure. Hurley is a wonderful place to have the procedure.
i feel he is very informitive. he is real understanding and tries to do his best at making sure you are well taken care of. the staff at the hurley comprensive weight loss clinic have been real supprotive and real caring. as far as the hospital i was taken well care of in the burn unit there.dr. farhan has a good bed side manner. the only thing i feel is they should spend more time on getting to know the person they are doing surgury on.
8/18/03 - I called the 800 number this afternoon and talked to the Hurley office in Ann Arbor. Because my insurance approved it, she has added me to the waiting list for surgery scheduling. They are booked through September already. So it may be October or Novemeber before I can get a date.

7/27/03 - Met with Dr. Farhan one on one and in a group setting on 7/16/03. I had read the impressions of previous patients prior to my visit, therefore, I knew what to expect (thank you, everyone!).

He seems very competent, experienced, and knowledgable. Also, very serious, no goofing around. Overall, I have the upmost confidence in him and the clinic. They indicated the risks, even the most remote possibilities. Everyone was helpful, friendly, and down to earth. I did not feel that any of my concerns or questions were unanswered.

The initial consult consists of a one on one review of your medical history with the doctor, then you meet with the nutritionist, then the bariatric counselor (someone who has had the surgery). They all seem very knowledgable and receptive to all my questions...I had many! I wrote them down in advance, and I recommend everyone do this.

They have manditory training classes, seminars for wound care for pre-ops. They have numerous locations for support groups. The counselor advised that everyone start attending the support groups before surgery.

Thanks to this site, I knew what was required before the consultation and had already had my psych eval, med records transfered and fax number for insurance approval on file. Now I am just waiting for insurance approval and they are pretty quick. I am hoping for a November surgery date.

NOTE: Throught this whole process, the Ann Arbor office staff (800 number) has been very friendly, helpful, and informative when I phone them.
Dr. Farhan seemed like a very knowledgeable surgeon. Was very soft-spoken, yet very direct and to the point. Only have met with him once. His staff is wonderful! His consultation was mostly about the procedure, his staff took care of all the aftercare programs. He explained all the risks involved. Allowed plenty of time for any questions I had, and took time to answer them. He never seemed to be in a hurry. I felt very comfortable with him. Even enough so that we joked a little with each other. Haven't had surgery yet, but feel confident with his abilitites. So far I would give him a good rating overall.
I have only met Dr. Farhan once. That was at my initial consultation at the Hurley Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss in August, 2002. I did have an opportunity to ask him several questions including the procedure itself, his medical background, and why he got into to bariatric surgery. He gave me honest answers which were reassuring to me. He was very professional, not overly friendly, but that's ok. I'm not looking for a friend. I'm looking for a competent individual to perform my surgery with little or no complications.
I will have an opprtunity to speak with him again on the day before my surgery which is scheduled for February 18, 2003.
2/27/03 Had my sugery last week. Dr. Farhan was wonderful. Took the time to follow-up with me and discuss my surgery in great detail, as thats what I wanted. He's a compassionate man and highly competent. He is a matter of fact kind of guy, but I like that. Someone else may see him as being a bit cool.
My first impression was ok. He seemed kind of rushed because my appointment was the end of the day. I had been to the office and thru the initial interview a year before and they had really shortened the whole process...I had talked to a nutritionist and a social worker in person then, this time someone called me. I forget her name, but she was informative.
I am going thru Hurley Comprehensice Weight Loss Center In Flint through Hurley Hospital. Dr. Minasian is my primary care physician. I think I will get excellent aftercare from him as he is also the wls clinical director.
I had the opportunity to observe the burn unit closely for two months daily as a family member was in a coma there due to a car accident.
It has taken nearly a year to get the date so I will revisit the place to get updated.
